TDA, very true, but that forum seems to pick and choose their members . i was refused entry ,but hey ho there is life other than forums
That isn't how it works HD, with all due respect. It is well managed, and has the kind of filter systems that hopefully will be available on here in the future. It is much smaller of course, it is only a year old, but new members join almost every day,
some only post very rarely, others post daily.Brue, I agree with you, lovely to see lots of newish posters using CT. Just hope their early posts are not pounced on too quickly and that they get the help and interest they deserve.
TDA, all i can tell you is what happened to me , i filled in the joining form with my forum name "Huskydog" and E-Mail address ,and submitted it ,then a few moments later a box appered telling me i had been banned and my ISP address had been locked
Maybe i should try again!!!!!

I think the drop out rate of posters and posts has been discussed previously, and perhaps recall someone from HQ explaining that CT isn't getting quite the high profile it enjoyed earlier, as the new forum is fairly imminent. There do seem to be a lot of
new and newish posters around though at the moment, even if only asking specific questions, and this has to be good. no doubt much more emphasis will be placed on encouraging members to take part once the new forum has been developed.0 -

I think that the naughty step may have something to do with it husky I have been accepted but my membership was never activated,
thus not allowing me to post . Still I'm happy with the forums I use.....0 -
Did you include all the user names in the review section Rogher or is that just in the discussion area?
During the two separate weeks, I observed a total of 1239* different users on CT.
192 of them were present in both weeks (Regulars?).
602 present in 2015 were not present in the same week 2016 (Leavers?)
499 users were seen in 2016 that were not in 2015 (Joiners?).
*Note that these are all types of CT user. About a third do not use the forum, and one fifth only express a “Like” for things (do not comment). There will be many more “Lurkers” who visit to view without leaving a mark.

I can't comment on the software used by forums I am afraid, as that kind of technology is way beyond me, but all I know is that the forum I use just allowed me to input my details, respond to understanding the very clear guidance, and accept that I would
adhere to what was expected of me. This included the very reasonable, nothing defamatory, nothing politically or religiously sensitive ideal, respect for views of others etc..... It is not affiliated to any club, so the link to fees paid isn't there, so I
think if anyone did give cause for concern, and be prevented from posting it would be a one card and that's it ban. No if's, no but's, no return after a period of suspension, no trying to use an alternative online identity. It is good, it appears to work well.0 -
So am I Brue, but may'be for a slightly different reason!

I was invited to join and refused. Its a strange world
Fascinating. Do tell more as you've made this claim elsewhere as well.
It's not invitation only so this does sound very odd
Its not a claim but I am not discussing the details with you
I think you must be confusing forums David. I'm pretty sure the one being referred to in this thread doesn't do "invitations", other than possibly a friend suggesting you join.

I like and appreciate Rogher's forum statistics. I appreciate that they only refer to Club Together but if you take a broader span of forums many of those that were previously very busy but now are shadows of their former selves. Not suggesting that Rogher
starts looking at other forums to gather statistics but anecdotal evidence suggests that some of the previous very busy forums have less posts now than they once did. Talking to a mod on another forum his view was that their Facebook page was attracting a
lot more hits and comments than their conventional forum. As to people not being welcome on other forums, I don't know which one is being referred to, but I doubt refusal to join is by accident? Anyone can read Club Together and any forum owner can make a judgement on the way people contribute here and act in the
best interest of their own forum which might mean not accepting someone. I would have thought the best course of action is to approach those that run the forum in question for a response as mentioning it here is unlikely to provide an answer.David

I think you could be right. Referrals by members are the closest you'd get to an 'invitation'
How funny.

I also joined another Forum, I was by given a 'heads up' by a friend who was a member-yes I was checked out by my known previous attitude on here, by my posting style & attitude to fellow posters. That incidently does not make me good but it obviously made
me acceptable. Anyone rejected/blocked or denied access I would suggest it is because of their posting styles that have been monitored on other Forums. To post on a Forum where there is no combative attitude is a joy. Furthermore it is refreshing not to have
to rub shoulders with posters who use infantile & derogatory terms against fellow posters, there really is no need for cheap shots at fellow posters, it says more about you than them. I know some Dour & curmudgeonly posters-I would never accuse them of such
whether they posted on here or not.0 -
Hi Rogher
I actually found your statistics encouraging!
There's not really that much of a drop in usage, and I don't think your stats can be used to support a claim that the CT Forum has "one foot in the grave" as mentioned earlier - far from it.
And as has been mentioned elsewhere in this discussion, a number of factors have contributed to this slight reduction in activity.
I also think Ro and the CT Staff should be commended for successfully tackling the "heated arguments" that used to generate so much kerfuffle - and posts!!
Cheers

Brue, there is disagreeing & there is combative. Disagreements are bread & butter to healthy debate/discussion, being stalked & attacked is not by any stretch of the imagination acceptable. I have seen it happen on CT to 4posters that I can think of immediately.
Some folk think being disagreed with is a personal slight-it really isn't at all.0 -

A very interesting comment I agree as I wasn't aware of any 'invitation only' membership.

Jill,
It seems likely that he's confused a referral link with an invitation. No invitations to join have ever been issued
It could always be a different forum.
Makes a good story I suppose

Indeed, the average number of posts a day to a thread has risen to compensate for the lower variety of threads being commented on. And the average number of posts per user has risen from 9.5/day to 9.9/day, so it’s not a case of doom & gloom. Maybe the new
software will generate more interest…0 -

I agree with you completely. We know the pressure Rowena is under(workload) as She apologises constantly for the lack of speed with Her replies. Some have mentioned weeks awaiting replies. It will then be a case of waiting for Rowena's workload pressures
to allow to reduce to a level of getting back to the 'mailer' all the time not having access to CT due to 'perceived' problems with poster/s. My apologies to rogher for going off topic. I enjoy the figures rogher produces, they are quite enlightening0 -
Does not seem like much of a decline to me and bearing in mind about a dozen "star chasers" took themselves off a few months ago I woild think genuine posts are holding up.
Who were they then AD ? I can only think of one and he's still here.....

As I posted some time ago, that issue could be addressed by points only being awarded to "likees" rather than "likers"
