I've just received and read the editorial and story of the COTY and I am completely non-plussed. Has nobody taken any notice of the 1300 complaints here or the reaction of the people all around us who have had confirmed all of their misplaced feelings of
us caravaners? I have no interest in calling for the responsible heads on sticks but completely ignoring this level of complaints is totally myopic and biased in the extreme. PR at its absolute worst.

1300 complaints?  if you multiplied that figure by three to 3900 you would have 1% of the membership.  So there's only a tiny number of members making an interminable fuss.

Write your comments here...What must be considered is not that 1300 people represent only 0.3% of the club membership, (if that figure is correct), what should be considered is what 1300 represent as a proportion of CT members that ever contribute to the
    forum.

What I have noticed is that although there are forum contributors who have posted several times throughout the thread there are many whose names I did not recognise as regular contributors but who feel strongly enough about the programme to put fingers to
the keyboard. This is possibly also reflected in the number of views the thread has received, over 36,000.  What would be needed is for the  number of contributors to the thread be determined, not the number of posts, and then put them into a for or against
list. My gut feeling is that the vast majority would be found to be critical of the programme. This would suggest that as a statistical sample, an equal proportion of the club membership would also be critical of the programme if all of the membership watched
the programmes and were then asked for their views. This, of course would never happen which is why sampling is used.

To determine viewing numbers for any TV programme, there is only a small proportion of the total viewing public who are asked what programmes they watched on a particular day and from this the total number of the viewing public is extrapolated.

Or, the words of Mark Twain "there are lies, damn lies, and statistics".

Whichever way one slices it, the overwhelming consensus is negative. There is no way that we may deduce the non-CT'ing majority viewed it differently.

I thought it was quite comical, all it really needed was mrs bucket and her old man to make it bloody hilarious..methinks a few of you lads ought to lighten up a bit.

I was looking for some form of comfort from the daily press, but they seemed to love it! Then the

    Gaurdian
came to the rescue with this at the foot of their article:

"There was an underlying, unapologetic warmth to the affair that just about salvaged it. For all that the six couples were walking inventories of Great British Eccentricities (obsession with lists, remarkable comb-overs, Blitz-era fetishisation), mocking
them was never the goal. These were decent people engaging in a harmless pursuit, and it was hard to begrudge them their moment. But good-natured whimsy can only carry a concept so far. Let’s turn the cameras off and leave them to it next time, shall we?"

    Amen. ;-)

I just re watched it with the mrs as she missed it, and we really enjoyed it, the people were really nice and genuinely enjoyed themselves.

It is a far more entertaining program than many of the real life programs that are now aired, BB, Xfactor, Britians got talent the list goes on but our TV stays off. Caravaner of the year was pure entertainment even if it was a bit corny.

The bit where the Chairman ripped a chunk out of his van was particularly entertaining and set an example to us all.

I'm sure the club must have received a large amount of correspondence regarding Farcevanner of the Year, yet there isn't a single one printed in the Letters section.  Amazing though that there is a 2 page article on the disgrace.

Dearie me, the arrogance and self-applauding of some people i.e. Gary Martin (Editor) on how it’s given the industry a massive boost!  Yes publicity on the programmes he mentions in this month’s magazine, but was it quality? Hardly, to represent the Caravan
Club in such a way is a disgrace, 3rd rate TV not even funny and an embarrassment to caravaner’s who take their leisure time away seriously. Nothing like the club blowing their own trumpet on what a fabulous programme this was….. hardly! Read the
forums and please take account of ‘ALL’members views!!!!!!!

I think, that although a lot of club members have complained, and The Club seems to think it was a great success, hopefully the majority of people watching it were Caravaners and Motorhomers. And not Joe Bloggs The public. It has certainly given us a bad
reputation, with regard to our Hobby and passtime. Look at the forums, about this on other websites. Wonder what will be said this weekend at The Rally ?

It is apparently to be an annual event. Perhaps members could have fun devising new challenges for next year? Got to be based on realistic touring challenges though.

    Here's one to kick off:

"Emptying the Chemical Toilet" decide whether or not it should be a timed challenge, or more of a "concourse" event. All participants must take part, none of that "Janet and John never use their onboard loo" nonsense, this is touring warts and all!

Personally, I think a timed challenge would be much more interesting, unless GC is doing the checking with his white gloves!Innocent

But you would have to provide diuretics and laxatives to ensure that all cassettes were full.

I have just started to read the recent issue of the Caravan Club magazine.I am somewhat surprised by the the comments from the editor,Gary Martin. His comments of the Caravanner of the Year being likened to The Great British Bake Off in some quarters.

Judgeing from the vast responses, I would liken it to the Great British  coc@ up.

No doubt a comment justifying the CC stance that this was a major success will be along any time now.........

    Don't hold your breath.

My wife and I watched one show and  determined that we are NOT "caravanners". We refuse to be associated with the people, ideals and concepts provided by the programme. Henceforth we will assert that we own a tourer yet we are not caravanners. We refuse
to be associated with the clowns who appeared as representatives of some concept known as a caravanner. Well done the CC. What a mess!

No! I have no doubt that they are genuine, good people however when you place  yourself in front of the media all for the sake of your 15 minutes of fame then you have to accept that people will judge you based upon the context in which you appear. The participants
volunteered. Most of us would have run a mile once  the concept of the show became clear. They agreed to be part of a programme which, quite frankly, portrayed them as clowns.

I really feel sorry for the majority of posters on this thread, I read the first half dozen pages and found the majority of posters a disgrace to caravaning. What is it about the CC that attracts such small minded disgusted from Tunbridge Wells types. They
have slagged everybody off including the BBC the members of other caravan clubs the staff at the club and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all. The programme was not a documentary about them personally or their precious club. I viewed it as what it was, entertainment,
not a deliberate attempt to belittle them, the club or caravanners in general. Some of the things posted here they should be ashamed of. If anything would make me leave the CC or sell my caravan it is their attitude to all and sundry that do not do as they
do. To slag off members of The Camping and Caravaning Club the way some have done is appalling. They are caravanners like the rest of us, some good some bad but still share the same hobby. I found the programmes funny and entertaining which was probably what
it was meant to do. This is the last time I will use this forum as I have found the majority of posters to be crass, self centred and snobbish. I am really disappointed by some of my fellow caravanners, they should grow up get a life and a sense of humour.
