Wouldn't it be a good idea if they just brought that great caravan programme 'Caravans a British love affair' up to date and kept away from all the stupidity which is about as amusing as a hole in the head!

Apparently there has been another BBC programme in similar vein featuring people who stay in Bed and Breakfast establishments.  Did anyone see it?

Write your comments here...There  was a programme that subject on TV yesterday.  Noticed it as I flicked through the channels to get to the news.

Not really riveting TV.  Might suit those who loved Caravanner of the Year though.

    K

Yes ' Four in a Bed ' My OH and myself have watched it for years . find it entertaining just like COY. maybe would not suit some on here but we like it.

To be honest we watched the Caravanner of the year show and found it to be hillarious I do agree that the people they picked to appear on the show were "stereotypical image of caravanners" but if they would have picked ordinary people it wouldn't have been funny. I think we should just take it as it is which I believe to be a light hearted look at caravanning/motorhoming with exaggerated characters

They didn't need to exaggerate the Chairman's ability to make a fool of both himself and the Club.

As it is being judged by  the CC the winner might just have to have a Range Rover  and an Airstream.caravan and go about in a dinner suit. They wont want go encourage the "Lower Orders"  would they.

My Smoking Jacket and cravat had been sent to the cleaners especially in anticipation ...and then it all turned out to be tosh......what a waste of my time and money.........still they will be ready for my next jolly jaunt to a CC site somewhere in England.....Standards
    you know......Tongue Out

With the ever-growing popularity of the lesiure industry especially in Caravaning and motorhomes it would be nice to have a true representation of a proper "vanlife" , showing the benefits of touring from "normal" folk not the quirky people that caravanning
    is usally tarnished with.

I thought the program was amusing and entertaining. It certainly highlighted that the club and some members are the average age of the finalists and only cater for such.

    Right, my turn....

Me and the OH have just watched both recorded episodes back to back last night as she's been working opposite shifts to me, so we decided to watch together once we got the chance...

    Cringe TV. End of...

OK,  people did pick up on GC riding in the back of the MH, side on and 'probably' with no seatbelt.

Is that why the camera was stuffed into his face so you couldn't see....???

And also, while on that part of the programme....

It was a time trial / competiton / race ON THE PUBLIC HIGHWAY!!!!!

So did their insurance cover it???

I know mine will NOT have!

All insurance policies that I've had in the past says in the print, 'This does not cover you for races, competitions or time trialetc....' (or similar words to that affect)...

It doesn't take much for an insurer to maybe 'investigate' this. All the evidence has just been broadcast! Named driver, vehicle reg and the 'race' detail......

Type that into their computers and................

Let's see if this post disappears?

There's been a clanger bigger than Big Bens bell dropped here!

but any publicity is good publicity.

w naive...Bad publicity only serves to reinforce prejudices. Why do you think we had a Ministry of Proganda during the wars?

Think of the recent London mayoral election and see what harm "any publicity" can do

Ah - not quite.  It would be classed as a "regularity run" which promotes road safety.

Sense of humour failure or what, we hardly ever comment on this type of thing, but hopefully the Chairman will have resigned by 2017 and the team that planned it sacked, then we'll have another thread to follow!

If we hadn't already booked our foreign holidays through the club we would return our membership cards by warp factor 10.

Judging by the comments so far, the Chairman should resign forthwith. Even a novice wouldn't try to erect an awning with the poles still in the bag, and as for his abortive manouvre  ripping the back off his caravan, either he was put up to it by the BEEB for "a laugh" (at our expense) or .........

We just hope none of our friends watched this "reality TV". If it had been billed as a "send-up" comedy we would have different views, but thanks Caravan Club for destroying Caravaners reputation and the resale value of our van. What do caravan manufacturers think? Surely they'll be after the club for destroying their businesses, we'll write to Bailey to offer our condolences.

Never mind, we're booking our trip to the AGM, staying at a Camping Club Site of course!

"destroying caravanners reputation"? ...Oh HollysPack, you mean like Clarkson has destroyed the reputation of motorists?  ...Come on. Lighten up a tiny bit. It's all over.

HP, it's OK, you can return your membership cards as it won't affect the booking you've already made. That fact has been stated in another thread so there's nothing to stop you chucking it in right now.

The phrase 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' springs to mind. You will find, if you read my earlier posts, that I have been anti CC and anti GC, in particular, from the start but it's necessary to keep things in perspective.

Not one letter, good or bad in this months mag, two pages of twaddle though referencing how good the programme was, and a company line piece by the editor. Apparently it was a TV phenomenon Laughing

Ironically there was a letter in this months C&CC mag, couldn't be a case of editorial red pencil  marking could it?

Received mag today. Not one letter either for or against the event. I suspect censorship. No such silence from the deluded editor who feels that it has "given our pastime a massive boost". This utter nonsense is supported by mention of various media sources
covering the event. True but all the coverage I heard was to poke fun at caravanning and to state how the programme supported a public stereotype.

The programme has done huge harm to the pastime, only caravan haters could dream of. If I were a manufacturer  I would be livid. Awful, horrible pastiche. We have been horribly let down by the club, those who organised it should resign in shame.

After reading the mag, I feel conned.

It read as very biased and one sided.

Not balanced at all. Only 'oh how wonderful it's been' etc...

Someone's living in cloud cuckoo land......

The Show was a disgrace. People picked for 'good telly' (a matter of opinion). The CC Chairman was an embarassment to not only himself, but the Caravan Club as a whole. Whatever credibility he may have had via his CC role (negligible I would suggest) was
totally eroded by his stupid attempt at his party trick of 'how fast can I go up this hill with my long caravan'. The man is an imbecile and should resign. He won't of course, as he clearly feels he is someone important. Well, he is NOT.

I thought Caravaner of the year was a wind up until I saw it on iPlayer. Even then I was still expecting the host to be Jerremy Clarkson. But no. It was serious. A
cringinly, embarrissinly, bad portrayal of caravaning.

Not seen this month's magazine yet, but am not suprised that no letters have been published. The powers that be must know they have made a huge miscalculation, but won't admit it.All we get is positive  'spin' with the hope that it will soon be forgotten
and we will move on to something else.
