How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?
I’ve started this discussion to try and collect together any direct comparisons between CC and C&CC.
One mentioned several times is that C&CC charge deposits with bookings, whereas CC does not. In that same discussion, it was mentioned that the C&CC membership was larger than CC’s, which surprised me. Can anyone provide the stats?
What other factual differences can be identified?

We are members of both leisure businesses the CC and the C&CC. There is little to choose between them.. Both have their good points and their not so good. You would have to be a real pedant to say that one is much better than the other. I believe that they both compliment each other as they, combined, offer a range of sites all over the UK.

We are members of not clubs. I agree there's little to choose between them. CC sites tend to be higher and more consistent standard, C&CC has, arguably, a better booking system and you can prebook a specific pitch type. Likewise the CC's CLs tend to be slightly
better than tge C&CC's CS sites in our experience. Incidentally, it's no longer the case that you get no choice on C&CC sites. On the last 3 occasions we've used their sites the warden has escorted us but let us choose from whatever pitches are available.
We'd happily use sites from either club if they're in the area we're visiting and would generally opt for one of them rather than private sites ( unless they've been personally recommended.)0 -
I used a CCC site last year, and quite enjoyed it. Cheaper, the warden showed me every pitch available to choose from, Shower and loos imaculate. Local pipe band turned up to play a jaunty tune to weclome visitors. It was noticable that the age groups are
much more mixed. On the whole, when no cl/cs is available a CCC is good for me. Also easier booking. Cant remember if I paid a deposit or not, but that bit doesnt matter anyway.0 -
We are members of both so that it gives us a greater choice of locations. In my view the CC has a better overall standard of campsites. Their hardstandings are larger than the C&CC. I have seen very few hardstanding pitches on a C&CC site where you could
park a car/caravan/awning across the pitch. Being a motorhomer that is not a problem for me. The C&CC have much better motorhome service points. Pitches are allocated but this is usually done to try and accommodate any member requirements so not as draconian
as it is sometimes portrayed. One advantage of the deposit system in the C&CC is that you can often find pitches at the last minute as their sites are rarely full.David

We belong to both, they're different and I like what both offer. The C &CC have a good system of booking hardstandings if available, in fact they have a good pitch availability system for all pitch types. I much prefer their rolling booking sytem even though
we have to pay a deposit. I can only remember being allocated a pitch once (at Moffat, when it was very busy.) Because there is a bigger variety of usage, tents, backpackers, groups etc I quite like the atmosphere on C & CC sites, a bit more relaxed and interesting.
However I'm fine with CC sites, CLs and rallies too.0 -
I believe fines are imposed for early arrivals.
This is no longer the case, as the idea was abandoned a couple of years ago.

We also belong to both and I endorse all that David says, yes, you are shown to your pitch, but one has never been forced on us, we are always asked if the pitch is ok for us. OK, so some of the facilities blocks need updating,(as do some CC ones) but we
have never seen a dirty one, also think that the atmosphere on site is much more relaxed. I think the standard of CLs is in the main better than CSs, with the five van rule upheld more on CLs, though not exclusively. I'm happy with their booking system
, also with deposits, their late cancellation policy is, imho better. Having said that, I'm happy with both clubs as they afford me a lot of choices between them......0 -
I've just joined the C&CC, so once we used them I'll let you know
I do like the fact you can opt out of a paper membership .....
It may be to your advantage to pay for the book for the first year husky, if you are anything like me. I prefer to look in a book for sites rather than onlone, although their search facility is very good......

I used to belong to both but I cancelled the CCC a couple of years ago because I just wasn't using their sites. I definitely think their sites are inferior. Pitches were not as big and I am sure they were closer together although I never actually got out a tape measure! I remember especially Teversal (which has a fantastic toilet block with amazing wet rooms to shower at leisure in) felt awfully claustrophobic. At Conkers the van next to me was way too close. Oxford was a night mare with incredibly uneven grass pitches (but a super location).
These kind of issues just put me off.
However the CCC definitely have the right booking system which is rolling and with deposits. Why the CC don't do this I just can never get my head around. It is by far the best and fairest system helping to prevent those who book with a casual attitude of well we'll book it - we can always cancel - and avoiding this ridiculous booking day clammer necessary (whatever some may say) if you want to get on Baltic Wharf or Rowntree, for example, at a key time.
I confess I have been thinking about rejoining CCC. I have relatives who are members and there are a number of sites they tell me are lovely so I mighty repent and give them a second chance.

I have been a member of both for some considerable time but tend to use CC sites more than C&CC ones. In spite of the deposit system sites do get full but not so quickly as CC ones so don't always expect to be able to find a pitch. Deleted User User is a little out of touch with curren practice. Like the CC, turning up early is frowned upon but the charges for doing so were dropped sometime ago. Yes you are shown to your pitch but if you are not happy with it, you do not have to accept it and as David says they do try and match it with your outfit and take into account your wishes. As a motorhome owner who moves on fairly frequently, I don't like their minimum stay rules but it generally only applies in peak season or at popular sites.
They have fewer sites and not many are open all year. Yes they are mostly of a lower standard but this is certainly not the case with them all and they currently have a program of upgrades which I see as being greater than that of the CCs.
The breakdown service mirrors that of Mayday but the overseas travel insurance is for me not so good. They won't cover larger motorhomes and at one time did not cover pets but I believe the latter has now changed.
The pensioners discount is of course well known and they do have hobby sections and have the lead in offering winter touring and world tours. Rallies or meets in the C&CC are less formal affairs.

We have the 8th Earl of Leicester. They have Julia Bradbury.

Been a member of both Clubs, but now only the CC, find their sites a bit better standard, and much prefer being able to choose my own pitch from the ones vacant.Worst (and last) experience of the C&CC was at Culzean Castle where we were made to park down a dark damp lane, (hardstanding) As That's where the motor homes have to park ! ! No choice at all. Left after that.

That's what I have done, opted for the book this year to get the feel of the club , it will be easier to compair the sites between both clubs using both books ........

It’s interesting that the length of membership of the C&CC of our members is sparse compared to their CC one, yet it appears the C&CC has more members, so I wonder where they come from and what maintains that number.
It’s also interesting that the C&CC appears to have fewer sites for more members, fewer site nights sold, and yet makes more profit.
Can anyone confirm the numbers?

I suppose it depends how they count the membership? We know the Caravan Club have about 360000 subscriptions but claims to represent over a million campers when they take the complete family into account. I find it difficult to imagine that the C&CC has more paid up members. Given that it has half the number of sites you could just imagine what that would be like if they had the same booking system as the CC!!!!

We joined the C&CC this year just to use one particular CS which is only an hour from home and is absolutely outstanding - loads of space - immaculate shower/toilet block and beautiful views - all for £15 pn. For me, that facility alone justified the £37
per year subscription. Went twice this year and plan to go again in the future.0 -

At a last check they owned about 100 sites but this is supplemented by the Forest sites which they now manage and if my memory serves me correctly, now have a finacial interest in. Dividing the subscription income by the average membership fee gives about 250,000 members which is about 100,000 less than that of the CC.
Their web site is definitely better managed and they have in my opinion lead the CC in the use of technology although they have not always got the user interface right. Shame they don't have a forum, I'm not too keen on facebook as a medium for exchange of ideas and debates although the C&CC appear to be quite responsive to posts on their FB page.

p.s. there are 20 forest sites so they have about 120 sites

We've been members of both clubs for a number of years and enjoy both.
There are procedural differences between the clubs, but the main difference is that because the C&CC also cater for tenting, there are more younger families and children around.

We belong to both clubs and must admit that we use CC&C more than CC. We rally and belong to the BCC section (British Caravanners Club). We don't have to prebook rallies unless there is a specific reason to do so, like restriction on number of units. It isn't even necessary to ring the rally stewards in advance. Turn up, pay your fees and enjoy. We like the CC because of the 5 van network, we have found them better than the CC&C. Booking club sites is just as easy for both clubs. You do pay a deposit with CC&C but they are refundable if you meet the cancellation policy terms. Although we have cancelled at the last minute because of bereavement and we didn't expect a refund but because of the circumstances we were able to switch it to a later booking. The only gripe I have with the CC&C on booking online is that you cannot book in advance for one night only which is annoying when planning a holiday and you need an overnight stay, we use CC for those occassions. I also think the CC magazine is better than CC&C which of late seems to be very food orientated to the point I sometimes think it is more a cooking mag than a camping one. To the original poster, enjoy both clubs, they each have much to offer.
