I stayed on Le Puits de l'Auture at Royane a couple of years ago, it was pretty good and I'd certainly go back again. The wi-fi was particularly good. They are very strict about their lunch, no chance of getting on between 12 & 2, there is a big area to
    park though.

I like Camping Beausoleil at La Palmyre because it's in the heart of the village within walking range of the shops, the markets and the cafes. Other people want to be on one of the islands, Oleron or Re, or in a bigger resort like Royan or Chatellaillon
Plage, or actually beside a beach... It really is personal choice for you. There are so many pleasant sites down there, and most of them pretty empty in June, so don't even think about booking in advance.

We liked this site Camping L’Ocean,at  Chatelaillon Plage. It was in the ACSI book when we used it a few years ago.

Stayed at Camping L'Ocean in September for a couple of nights. Facilities OK but office staff a bit disorganised. Fairly easy walk into Chatelaillon Plage

Not sure it's ACSI, but we stayed at Vaux-sur-Mer just outside Royan in September, on Le Nauzan Plage site. Good range of facilities, staff helpful, easy walk to beach and a few bars and restaurants. Pitches were of varying sizes, but you'll probably be
ok on choice (as we were in Sept). We were allocated a pitch, but it was no trouble to pick an alternative. Overall, a stylish area, worth visiting.

im pretty sure Nauzane Plage is ACSI, we have stayed there once and also on Camping Val Vert, but this site was very wet. when we were there.

however, Vaux sur Mer and Palais sir Mer are lovely and the cycling along the coast in both directions is great....to St George de Didonne in one direction and to the Foret beyond Palmyre in the other....

    enjoy...

We stayed at Le Beaulieu La Rochelle (ACSI 1590) for a few days this year (ACSI 6 euros a night cheaper than non ACSI).  Site roads a little tight but we managed ok towing 7.25m. Excellent restaurant and pool.  It was quite busy in early June so maybe a call ahead to reserve a large pitch would be advised. Very convenient for La Rochelle the bus stop being nearby, don't bother driving into the town.  Commercial centre (with supermarket) opposite but no problems with noise; however, suggest site best for visiting La Rochell and immediate area rather than a base for a holiday.  The old port area is beautiful at night when the floodlights are on.  La Nauzan - Plage is ACSI 1617.

Thanks all, we need this info for next year too.

Any more quality sites (even if not ACSI. Sorry if this dilutes the thread but we already have a few to choose from)

Well, no one  has even mentioned either of the islands to you yet, so you can start and look there as well as on the mainland. On Oleron we liked the farthest northern tip of the island - and the municipal site at St Denis d'Oleron is in a great sea front position.

There is a municipal site at Port Neuf close to the centre of La Rochelle. It is very convenient for the city centre and visiting the Ile De Re. The site itself is good and cheap, but there is some noise from the railway.

    BUT

Don't use it if you like to use on-site facilities. In fact, don't even go into them. They are worse than appalling!
