Lake Constance Recomendations
Hi All,
We are thinking of visting Lake Constance en route to Austria/Italy next May and would very much welcome suggestions in regard to sites and things to see in the area.
We are looking at the Northern side for around 4 days, but this is very flexible, and then travel onward via Kempten.
Thanks.

We stayed on the Swiss side for 7 nights at Camping Seehorn, Egnach. A very good site, good pitches and fantastic toilet blocks. On the cycle track and lake side, local supermarket about 2 mile down the road. A must visit is to Mainau Gardens near Constance
Swiss / German border at Constance good bike ride and beer stop!

We have stayed at a couple of sites on the Bodensee, Park Camping and Camping William Both have good cycling routes from the site although William is a little remote for walking.

We stopped on the German side of the See at Camping Salem an ACSI CCard site, It is situated in the Countryside back from the See. Not a huge site but very popular.See photo's on second Page of our Trip this year 2016.
HereI recommended it to two friends who stopped there after us and they enjoyed it too.

We stayed for a couple of days at Camping Gitzenweiler Hof which is not on the lakeside but is convenient for Lindau - bus service outside the site. The site has good facilities, eateries, children's activities, pool etc. but was crowded at the beginning
of September (some German children don't return to school until the middle of Sept). We found the sites round Constance/Bodensee crowded both in September and May/June with fairly small pitches but it's a lovely area.0 -
We found Meersburg to be a very pretty (and very hilly!) little town. Lovely old town and a picturesque waterfront. You can also get the ferry and then a bus to Konstanz, although to be honest, we found it a bit dirty and not to our liking. I'm afraid
I can't advise on a campsite as we stayed on a stellplatz on the edge of the town but i'm sure there'll be one nearby. The Zeppelin museum also looked good, I wish we'd paid it a visit.

The Zeppelin Museum is excellent for anyone visiting it by car just before the Museum and Port entrance there is a Shopping Centre with an excellent Carpark. There is no carpark any nearer the Museum.
Did you mean Meersburg was dirty or Konstanz. We visited Meersburg by boat which was a lovely trip from Unterruhidingen just a few kilometrs from the Salem Campsite. It is a better price going from here to Meersburg or Mainau To Meersburg was 16. 80 Euro's if you bought a combi, return ticket, for the Insel inc Ferry it was 26 Euros's each person.
Go to my website fior photo's,

Sorry Dianne, I meant that we found Kontanz dirty. Meersburg was beautiful.
We went as foot passengers from Meersburg over the lake, then took a bus from the port to Konstanz. If i remember correctly, the ferry was around €11 return for a family of four and the return bus journey was about €7.

Dianne, some great pics but Camping Salem seems to suffer in comparison with the others!
