Help with sites near Santander

We will be travelling to Santander on the ferry shortly and heading west along the coast.

Wondered if anyone had visited any of the sites within striking distance of Santander as our ferry docks in the early evening. Also of course if anyone has any recommendations that would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Camping El Helgero. Stayed there last year. About 45 minutes fromSantander including afternoon rush hour. Quite a nice site, swimming pool, resteraunt, wi fi @ 1 euro per day (24 hours) clean facilities and some worthwhile visits in the immediate area.  As
I remeber I had to use my reverse polarity adaptors there. Hope this helps.

The closest site to Santander is Camping Cabo Mayor about 3 miles from the dock, it is ideal for ferry travellers as the office stays open until about 10pm. The site is ok for a couple of days or so, to look around Santander. There is a website for it.

We're planning to use El Huelgero later in the year to visit Altamira. It also looks like a good last night stop before the ferry back home.

Used Cabo Mayor and was fine. They stayed open later because of very late arrival of our ferry due to mechanical problems - travelling further would have made things very difficult.

Had a day in Bilbao before moving on.

Another option is Camping Oyambre (ACSI)  - we had good reports but didn't use it.

If returning via Santander, consider Picos De Europa.
