Which site is best on the Ile d'Oleron?

You might like Camping les Lauriers at the northern tip of the island - at St Denis village  -  and away from the marshy/mosquito side of the island. 

I was really hoping we could find an ACSI site and I don't think that one is.  Is it the east coast that has mozzie problems?

Just had a look on the
French Municipal Sites link but can only find Municipal Les Pins not Municipal Les Dunes.  Do you think this is the same place with a name change?

We are heading also to il D'Oleron in a few weeks time and I had also wondered exactly  the same question. We are after an ACSI site too and had thought the Gros Jncs might be good especially the location. If you happen to find one that you like and maybe
have time to offe a bit of feedback that would be great.......enjoy your holiday. 

Thanks Desimondo.  At the moment the weather forecast is not good but I think we will go anyway as we only live a few hours south.  Will let you know what we find.

We're back from Ile d'Oleron today after a long weekend.  We looked at Camping Les Lauriers recommended by Eurotraveller but found it a little cramped with statics and access round the site with our 2.3m wide unit was only just possible because of the trees
lining the road.  We looked at Camping La Campiere on the other side of the island but weren't impressed by the fact that the website said their facilities were fully open from mid April but nothing was.... typically French.  The owner said there weren't enough
people around to make it worthwhile opening them.   We settled on a very nice Municipal site at St Bree Les Bains adjacent to St Denis.  Lovely
large flat pitches, warm and modern toilets and showers and an access directly onto the beach on one side through a gate and to the village centre on the other.   We didn't stay any longer because the weather forecast gave the next 5 days with constant thunderstorms.
 On the way back we called in at the wonderful small
Municipal site at Martel.  €9.55 a night for a unit with two people and electricity.  150 metres from the medieval town centre and with a wonderful restaurant at the Auberge at the site entrance.  What more could one wish for.  

Before we left home for the Ile d'Oleron I did have a look at reviews for Camping les Gros Joncs and emailed them to ask whether they have acted on the poor reviews.   This is the reply I received.   It seems that the facilities have been updated and
if we had been on the island longer I think we may have tried it:

I know that there are some reviews on the internet sayaing that the campsite is run down and not well kept. 

I can assure you that we do our very best to keep the campsite clean and welcoming for all our guests. However, I must say that our sanitary facilities are a bit old but have recently been redecorated with new doors and tiles. They are cleaned every
day and may only sometimes dirty because some campers don't care about what they leave behind them.
