Portsmouth ferry
We are booked onto Rookesbury site for the Saturday night but our ferry only leaves at 2000 hours on the Sunday night.
Obviously we are a bit concerned because if we leave the site at 12pm we cannot drive around towing a twin axle caravan.
What do people do in this situation as don't really want to pay for an extra night at Rookesbury only to leave the site at 1800 hours on the Sunday?

Surfer, may I refer you to the thread Sunday Departures? In it you'll find all you need to know about leaving a site later than 1200 on a Sunday.
Alternatively, you could try ringing the warden and asking his/her advice as I'm sure you won't be the first person in this situation.

We travel on the Portsmouth St Malo ferry at least once a year (presume from the departure time that is what you are on) and pay for the extra night at Rooksbury leaving about 18.30. Look at the cost of your ferry and the one nights pitch fee becomes miniscule.

You got to be kidding as that thread is pages and pages long and not worth bothering about, but thanks for your input as it has helped us to to decide to cancel our 3 night stay at Rookesbury and go elsewhere where we can stay until 1800 hours without incurring
a night's charge.0 -
I don't know how my input could have helped you decide to cancel, Surfer. What did the warden say?

why not stop further away for the Satuday night, and then drive straight to Portsmouh?

You very kindly referred me to that long running thread and the 12pm departures so that made is easy for us to make a descion to cancel and look elsewhere. Thanks.

And I gave you an alternative which was the obvious thing most people would have done without needing to be prompted.
Never mind, I'm sure somebody will be very glad to snap up the Rookesbury pitch.

Where are you staying if you don't mind telling, we often go from Portsmouth but usualy stay further up country but wouldn't mind staying nearer Portsmouth now not using RP and having to sacrifice a couple of days.

There are several spots along the top of Portsdown Hill. You could park up there for the afternoon and drive down to the ferry when you see it coming in through the harbour. You could have an afternoon at the Royal Armouries, Fort Nelson.

We are using a Black Hill CL for a stop over. It is ideal as it is halfway between Christchurch and Portsmouth and we can stay to 6pm no problem.
