What are you all up to today? - part 3

Quite a blustery day with more wind and rain forecast, just looking at some of the damage to statics in Wales. It looks like batten down the hatch weather for the next few days.
I've got well organised this year, Christmas cards nearly done, post for overseas sorted, this is too good to be true, I wonder what I've forgotten?!
Write your comments here...I saw the news about the tornado in Aberystwyth. I just hope it doesn't come here. After all I wouldn't want the caravan and awning lifted off the ground in the middle of the night!
I assume you have storm straps over your awning? We don't use an awning so I have no experience in how they're used.

Winter fuel allowance, £200 or 2 x £100 if you're a qualifying couple, goes into the bank as WFP, winter fuel payment .
Tried to check on the £10 pensioners bonus but online bank statements stop in May .
The cold weather payment is triggered by low temperatures and being in receipt of
certain benefits.Malcolm are you entitled to pension credit? No idea on latest figures to qualify, sorry. That leads on to other benefits I believe.

OH got WFA for the last 2 winters, yet he only qualified for the state pension in July of this year when he was 65. MM I think you got yours in August, how come you didn't get WFA last year? We got a letter today saying that my Mum still gets WFA even though
she is in a care home, now reduced to £150. OH hasn't received a letter yet for his WFA for this year yet. I should also qualify this year as I started getting my pension at the begining of Nov. doesn't make any differance though to how much you get.Your address will still get £200 as £100 each. So you don't have to beg for half this year . My OH definitely had at least two he was 65 this November.
Yes that's what I meant, didn't quite phrase it right .
So your OH has had it for the last 2 years same as mine, both 65 this year like Malcolm. Can't understand why M hasn't looked into this before as he should have received it like our OH's. I can't understand why every year they send you a letter to tell you
that you are going to get it. What a waste of time and money posting out letters to every household. Surely once you have been granted it that should be enough, after all they don't send a letter every month to tell you that your pension will be paid to you.0 -
Very changeable weather today. Bright sunshine one minute and dark grey sky and pouring with rain the next but we did manage a lovely 2 hour walk this morning in the dry and it was mostly sunny. Miserable afternoon though, cold and rainy. Just got back from a committee meeting that went on for hours and I am not sure that anything was agreed on in the end.
PS neither of us have received our WFA for this year yet. I usually get mine before Mr H.

"after all they don't send a letter every month to tell you that your pension will be paid to you."
True - TG - but whilst people might expect, see or miss a monthly payment without a letter, most, I suspect, do appreciate being warned that it is on its way.

I just think its such a waste of time and money sending 2 letters to households telling them something they know is going to happen.

Won't matter either way, we still get the same amount It gets paid into the joint account anyways, so I will just spend it no matter what.

No idea, I do remember I had to claim it. i never got told about it, OH read about it somewhere and realised I could claim as my birthday is in August, so I sent in a claim, the cut off date was the March of the following year I think.
Ever since then it has arrived every year.
The payments first strarted in 1998 and in 1999 were extended to all over 60s

From gov.uk
3. Eligibility
You’ll qualify for Winter Fuel Payment if:
- you were born on or before 5 May 1953 (for winter 2016 to 2017 - this date changes every year)
- you’ll be living in the UK throughout the week of 19 to 25 September 2016
You may be able to get the payment if you live in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) country and you have a genuine link with the UK.
You can’t get the payment if you live in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain because the average winter temperature is higher than the warmest region of the UK.
When you won’t qualify
You won’t qualify if throughout the week of 19 to 25 September 2016 you:
- are in prison
- are in hospital getting free treatment for more than 52 weeks
- need permission to enter the UK and don’t qualify for help from the Department for Work and Pensions
- have lived in a care home for the previous 12 weeks or more and get Pension Credit, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- lived in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain
Change of circumstance
Report any change of circumstance as these can affect how much you get. For example, if the qualifying person stops getting a benefit, moves out, dies or goes into care.
Contact the office paying your benefits - their details are on any letters they sent you.
Most Winter Fuel Payments are paid automatically. Write to the office that pays your Winter Fuel Payment if you want to cancel it.

I think you could well be correct on that point. It certainly rings a bell. Once applied for, I suggest Malcolm applies asap so its not missed again!! its £200 until the spouse reaches state pension age. I'll have to beg for my half for another 5 years
cos he won't let me have the heat on bless him0 -
I think perhaps Malcolm is not "up to speed" on things like this.
So should he have 'Claimed' his WFA in previous years then OH didn't do anything, he just got a letter telling him he was now entitled to it (that was 2 years ago)
Yes OH had to claim and was miffed as birthday falls in November and didn't get first year
We should retitle this thread to what benefit did you receive today
Will pick up van about 10 this morning and head up to North Norfolk
Yes there have been lots of posts relating to benefits, sure its covered now . Have a great holiday/trip/few days. Delete as appropriate.

I hope no-one was badly affected by yesterday's high winds/tornadoes.

Thanks milliehull we OK. Heavy rain and strong winds early afternoon in Essex. Enough rain coming off the shed and dark enough to set movement sensor light on! Trust you OK?

Beautiful day here too B2. I haven't been outside yet but think it might be a bit 'crisp'. I don't mind that as I can wrap up warm. Great to see blue sky and sun.

Washed OH's car yesterday morning. Chucked it down in the afternoon and stuck the detritus from the adjacent poplar all over it.
