Malcolm - another thing - make sue that you've told HMRC about your state pension, because they will need to reduce your personal tax allowance to take account of it, to avoid you under-paying tax through the year.
You don't actually pay income tax on a state pension, but you will in all probability have to pay it instead on your other earnings, pensions etc.

Had a great evening last night. Son played a gig with his Irish Folk Group called Darragh Folk (he plays double bass) . As it was in their local pub 8 year old grand-daughter was asked to play her penny whistle with them for the first half hour or so. It
was great to see them playing together. I then nipped her back home to mummy and went back for the rest of the evening. An amazing (very Irish) night. Great fun.We love those Irish music evenings millie, and it must be even better with family members playing. Well done to your grand daughter. We went to see an Irish group call Dervish at Salisbury Arts Centre a few weeks back. Great craic as they say!

KjellNN is there no end to your talents? I'm so impressed. I thought we were a house that can turn it's hand to anything but you have more strings to your bow!
We too have an oddshaped toilet, had no idea when purchased few years back. I hate it as it doesn't flush well either, but that's another tale. Replacement from ROC themselves, £35. I want it changed hubby says we need to get one where exit pipe same height and width as this, reasonable I suppose as fully tiled bathroom and house repebbledashed after fitting. Lack the time and the will to sort, I'll just keep flushing a couple of times. I love being somewhere when pulling the chain allows sufficient water to do the job. no pun intended
We had a toilet like that, it flushed very poorly and took ages to fill up compared to the others in the house.
Last year we found a damp patch on the ceiling below it, on investigation there was a small leak on the inlet pipe, I had to fit a whole new float valve thing, since then it has been much better. Better flush and fills up quickly.
Can you check that the float valve is allowing the cistern to fill up far enough to give a good flush? If it cuts off too soon you should be able to adjust it.
I do enjoy doing things around the house, most are not that difficult if you have the right tools and acquire the right knowledge, however not everybody is that way inclined. Our son is pretty useless that way, mainly because he is not interested to learn.
DD is very practical, interested to learn how to do things, requested a good cordless drill for her Christmas last year. Just as well as her husband is hopeless at DIY, and not interested in learning either.......like his parents!
Apparently they have had a small leak on the CH for a while and every week a brother comes round and tops it up for them as they cannot do it themselves, not sure what happened this week!
Strange thing was that despite this they did not seem to know why the boiler would not start. I also found it strange that they have a good timer for the system that they never use, and thermostatic valves they do not set either.
All the valves are set to full on and they just put on the heating manually when they feel cold. According to DD they have huge gas bills, which is presumably due to the fact that when they then feel too hot they just open the door or windows!

You'd think doing the accounts and ironing would preclude time on here
...everyone needs a little light relief Bakers2. I love your present idea, it sounds lovely. I'm hopeless at presents my niece got Mum
a lovely preset of a cushion for her 90th birthday recently, it was a photo of my Mum taken in front of the kelpies, that is then printed onto fabric and made into a cushion. Has pride of place on her bed.Not always brilliant on ideas. Generally manage one a Christmas, someone is lucky, not always the same person
Finished the ironing, there was only 12 tops and bed linen - spun it out for 3 hours
Still raining steadily, curtains closed soon after 4pm, another delaying tactic, barely got light all day. Oh the joys of the days to come!
OH finally going to the loft to get overnight bag - he suffering same disease as me. He's on cooking duty for dinner, still not started 6.15pm hope we eat this evening

Just got in from a few scoops with BIL and best friend who has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. We have known each other since 1965 and married 2 sisters. Really positive attitude and had a great laugh, reminiscing about the old days. Good couple
of hours and left feeling better for him. So a really positive day!Write your comments here...
Hope all goes well with your BIL Oneputt.

. We try to remember to tell our guests before they use the facilites.......................0 -
We had a nightmare week as well. My eldest daughter rang on Monday to tell us that she was en route to Newcastle as our grandson who is at university there had just been admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis. He rang me very early on Tuesday to
tell me that he had come out of theatre 3 hours previously. On Wednesday he was very poorly his appendix had burst as it was being removed. To cut a long story short he was discharged this afternoon and his now on his way home. Hopefully he will continue improving0 -

WEIRD, WEIRD, WEIRD !!
Went up to aged sister this morning -- nothing to do, just couple of hours chatting and watching the tweets ducking and diving from the trees & bushes onto the various feeders and into he B-bath for a drink, then back to the feeding .
Then we spotted the neighbours kitten sitting in a tree watching-- no attacking, no chasing, just watching. Eventually we shooed it off, gently of course, but twice it came back Then we discovered it was taking some of the diced/cubed bread scattered around. So the shoooing was repeated. Eventually it disappeared.
An hour ago got a tee-hee-mail from The Elderly One !!
The neighbours had arrived home to find the kitten, back in the correct basket guarding a pile of stale bread which it was non too happy to have taken away!!
WEIRD, ?? You Bet !!!
Write your comments here...ABM sure you weren't visiting the twilight zone .
Trellis, Really That's no way to refer to my Sister !! Well not without paying the Fee

Had to phone cc insurance as I received a letter saying payment was rejected by my bank, after a panicky check of the bank account thinking someone had emptied it I called the bank to see what the problem was, it was because I was issued with a new visa
card 2 weeks ago the card didn't match the details that cc hold all sorted now and caravan still insured phew0 -

I know 2 people like that, don't use timers, TRV's or room thermostats, one just switches the boiler on and off, the other turns the boiler up and down, can't seem to get it across to them that's not the way to do, when I asked isn't it cold in the
morning when you get up my friend said quite straight faced no I make OH get up first0 -

Another day spent in a hospital ward, our son had a recurrence of the tummy problems! It will be a 6night stay this time, at least that's the story so far!
Hope it works out well and that he feels much better after his stay.

Sorry, yes my post on second reading was unclear.
A state pension is most certainly taxable, but doesn't have tax deducted from it. It has 'first dibs' on your personal allowance and thereby reduces your personal allowance by the amount of the pension.

Never assume anything about HMRC........always tell them, preferably in writing.
The fact that you are paying tax on one of your private pensions means nothing.......unless you have checked that you are paying the correct amount of tax, taking into account all your other income sources.
Just tell them, to avoid a tax bill at a later date.
