Went out to NT Barrington Court for a coffee and cake this morning, plus a good stroll around the gardens and a look through their secondhand books. I buy quite a few for my Mum, she can't remember what she has read but still enjoys them and requests more.
We had forgotten it was a halloween special today so we were surrounded by families and children on a pumpkin search, the den building bit was very popular! Nice to see everyone out and about.NT for us too, Brue....took inlaws to Great Chalford Manor nr Melksham, and then on to Lacock for lunch and a stroll...
weather pretty good with a dose of sun at the appropriate moments while in the gardens....

I wouldn't be saying that but for the comfortable financial cushioning of my state pension! I just wish it was enough to give up work altogether!
We're running out of Aquakem and Aqua rinse which means a walk over to see the warden at reception to buy some more today.
Malc, try and be more frugal, there are alternatives to use and although Warden sales are very welcome when caught out it is understandably expensive, so plan ahead and get things cheaper. You can't work forever
Write your comments here...The problem is the nearest caravan shop is a long way. So more convenient on site.
...Im guessing Dave might mean buy either in bigger bottles to save money, or two mext time youre at your 'bargain store'...
failing that, a switch to Lidl gel tabs do as good a job and will save you a fortune.....check out the thread...

I think it was breakfast, then fish for lunch, followed by ham and cheese on toast, followed by lamb. I think I've got that right unless there was chocolate cake and a cream tea plus a bottle of wine... Oh dear.....
Write your comments here...Just cereal for breakfast but we did have scones with strawberry jam after the cheese and ham on toast. No chocolate cake or wine yet today though.
Am I remembering correctly that you are taking pills for type 2 diabetes, or that you are borderline?
If so, should you not be watching your diet?
Apologies if I am confusing you with someone else.

Malcolm - educate me, what are a Brio and Fiordilatte? The last one sound like a milky coffee with ice in it!
Write your comments here...They're Italian restaurants in Worthing. Brio is on the sea front, 18, Marine Parade, Worthing.

Yes, you are correct KjellNN, if anyone has Type 2 Diabetes, they should be watching their diet even if they are taking Metformin! People are made fully aware of this by the diabetic nurses and Doctors, however, some people choose to ignore the advice!

So having bought a blood pressure monitor and taken readings over a week doctor Was impressed! Having had a check up with the GP today it seems I may have a syndrome! White coat syndrome to be precise! As soon as I see a health professional my blood pressure
goes up!I may not need the drugs after all, so only way to check the blood pressure after I stop taking the tablets!

Arrived home at just gone midday after a fantastic few days in South East Essex. Van back in storage, car unloaded, now sat in garden in the sunshine
Meant to ask, have you managed to get the van floor sorted yet?

Been down that road myself, Robsail !
It's damned strange when a middle-aged male doctor has that effect on me when the attractive young trainee nurse last week got my lowest reading for years
!There are Times when I really worry about me

I have the same. Mine stems back 28 years to birth of my son, you don't need details. Its always OK with the doctor pumping one but awful with automated one. My very understanding GP has now retired so I'll have to discuss again. We are told to question drugs/ops etc with GP, I always have but some seem to assume you know nothing and they know all

You are not alone in having white coat syndrome, my brother was only telling me yesterday that he has it. His Dr was keen to put him on tablets for high blood pressure, when in fact his pressure is just under the norm.

Its not always white coat syndrome. When you do it at home you are relaxed doing it in your own time. Not many of us get to the doctors half an hour before our appointment to give us time to relax. You could also catch something worse being in a waiting
room that long!!! The real test is what prompted the question of whether medication was required in the first place? I was sent to the doctor by our occupation health nurse because my blood pressure was through the roof, talking 200 plus for the higher measurement.
OK it was a stressful time at work but the nurse said to me that I should really send you to the hospital but I know you won't go. The medication seems to control it to a point where it sits within the higher end of normal but I can get much lower readings
at home but what none of us know is what our pressure is like when we are doing things and going about our normal business. Its not the end of the world taking a couple of tablets every day. The regret is the affect it has on any travel insurance, apart from
Red Pennant.David

All the parts are in Nell, just waiting for workshop space, apparently it will be in for 3 days.

Write your comments here...The dietician said that nothing is forbidden except smoking and I don't smoke. Anything can be eaten as long as it's in moderation with portion control. Although some foods such as fresh vegetables and fruit are better than sugary foods. I only had one scone with a small amount of jam.

Dull and grey here today but no wind and not cold. Off to Stamford on the bus today to have a look round the market.
Mr H is still taking his BP twice a day and after GP changed his tablets to a lightly higher dose it is now well down but as David says none of us know what our BP is like when we are doing our usual things during the day. He goes back to GP in 2 weeks.
Sorry to hear about your wife's purse being stolen CY. How horrid and such a hassle. A nasty thing to happen. Our Police have just put out a warning about pick pockets being rife in our town centre especially in and around charity shops - there must be gangs of them. How horrid to pick on vulnerable people. Be careful out there folks.

Hope you have a goodtime at Stamford market Millie, it's a great market.
Visited Healey's Cyder yesterday, bought some scrumpy and some delicious apple and strawberry Juice, dogs are welcome too which was good. We also visited Wheal Martyn China clay museum and country park, also very dog friendly, interesting to see how
they mine the clay now and then.Off to meet up with Mr and Mrs Moulesy today.

My sister had type 2 , also a couple of our friends, they say there is a lot of bad advice given by the NHS, and you should research on line yourself.
My sister now uses insulin, possibly because she did not get good advice on diet initally, I'm not really sure.
As you say, vegetables are good, but apparently most fruit is not so good due to high sugar content, and that includes fruit juices.
Carbohydrates are bad, so our friends severely limit their intake of potatoes, pasta, rice, bread and cakes etc. There are low carb breads and rolls available to buy, and lots of recipes on the internet for low carb treats.....a good use for your new oven maybe?!
We found trying to buy yoghurt for my sister very difficult, especially in France where most seem to be loaded with sugar! Low fat yoghurts invariably contain a lot of sugar.
One of our friends has a spiraliser and makes courgetti spaghetti, she also makes cauliflower "rice", and replaces roast potatoes with roast celeriac, and the occasional roast sweet potato.
Not sure about alcohol, that must contain a lot of sugar? I know my sister rarely has alcohol, and when she does it is strictly one small glass.
Since becoming more sensible about her diet, she has been able to reduce the amount of insulin she uses.

Write your comments here...For lunch today, I had fish with Jacket potatoes and a sweet potato, greens and cauliflower. I had heard that leafy green vegetables are good and we do have plenty of those with our main meals. I used to have bitter gourd but I have to admit that I'm not keen on the taste and it is rather expensive and only available in speciality shops. It's imported as it cannot be grown in this climate. I believe bitter gourd contains insulin but some doctors believe it isn't that brilliant as it's effects are lost in the stomach.

Margaret has been a type two diabetic for some years now. As she is normal weight she really gets annoyed at the constant barrage on the news linking diabetes only with being overweight. Obviously that is true but has no relevance to Margaret!!!
She has taken Metformin and Gliclacide for years but she is now on a slow release insulin as well which seems to give better blood sugar results. The real danger with diabetes is the associated problems that can occur especially heart problems and you could
have knocked Margaret down with a feather when she was told she needed a heart bypass operation as a consquence of the diabetes. Not that I wish to frighten anyone but one common effect of diabetes is the damage to nerves so someone could have a heart attack
without knowing it in the conventional sense so best to attend all those appointments at the surgery.David
