What are you all up to today? - part 3

I don't think you can use the hob and the oven together with those type of appliances...for obvious reasons... (your suggested method is better
Kj. )Depends on how many amps each bit draws, presumably it is aimed mainly at the bed-sit market and will use a 13 amp plug. Not that convenient if you cannot use it as a mini cooker.
13 amps will let you use almost 3000 watts, so it could well be possible to use oven or grill plus both rings.
Malcolm will just have to remember that he will need to turn off pretty much everything else if he wants to do so.
However, Malcolm, you need to check the rating on the caravan breaker for the socket you are plugging it into, some are only rated at 10 amps.
Write your comments here...One of the hobs is 1000 watts the other smaller hob is 600 watts. The hob and oven cannot both be used at the same time. So I think the maximum output is 1600 watts if both hobs are being used. So it's using less power than the
caravan Alde heating system that can run on up to 3 kw. Although we usually run it on either 1 or 2 kw.Do you have it on a worktop in the caravan, or do you have to go out into the awning to cook? We find that using the (existing) cooker helps heat the caravan. And I don't think I would be wanting to be carrying hot pots and pans up and down the steps.
Sorry, just curious! Each to their own.
Write your comments here...We use it in the awning. It seems better that way because it stops the smell of food lingering in the caravan.
...Could save on awning heater use then
Write your comments here...That's a good point! It could trip the system if the heater and oven were on at the same time!

That oven sounds like a good idea, Malcolm.
I've always wondered why they don't come up with a dual fuel oven, to save a bit of gas. everything else seems to be dual fuel.
We also do the baked potatoes in the microwave first, then finish off in the oven.....we even do that at home, because 60 minutes is a long time to wait when you're hungry.
Liked the story about the sweet chesnuts. I think if I did that they'd turn out to be conkers!

I would assume he does as we do, cook in the awning and eat in there too.
We cook in the caravan (but you probably guessed that, David ) and we eat either inside or outside, depending on the weather.

Surprise, surprise, TG I can now see your dog, and he was a fine one too. Your avatar has changed within the last 3 minutes.
Well that's good NH what did you do to get it to change?
By the way he was a she Tammy, the clue is in the name ans
yes she was lovely.Oh dear TG, does that mean that Tammy is no longer with us
Sadly no Brian, was awhile back so no longer raw. Haven't been able to find any digital photos of her but found a printed one so re-scanned in, nice to see her everytime I'm on CT

Happy Anniversary to H&T hope you have had a lovely day.
Bakers2 nice to see you back and that you had a nice time away.
It's been a lovely day weatherwise here, not been able to take advantage of it though, as we had to go to Glasgow for the results of OH's MRI scan on his shoulder and elbow. The Prof that we saw had good news in that nothing major has gone wrong he
is suggesting he does keyhole surgery to' tidy' up the shoulder joint which should help and in turn help the elbow We are off
to see GP on wednesday for a chat.0 -

Write your comments here...We cook in the awning but don't usually eat in there. In hot weather we put the picnic table outside the awning to eat. In cold weather we eat inside the caravan. Although that all depends on whether the aircon is working. When the aircon is working we eat inside regardless of how hot or cold the weather is.

We tend not to have a set plan for where we eat, but this time of year when we don't bother with the awning, we eat in the 'van, especially as there are only two of us. However we still occasionally use the Cadac - cook outside and eat in.

I'm very confused today. Our alarm clock, which resets automatically when the clocks go forward or back and has been a day late doing it twice this past twelve months, set itself back an hour this morning. So still a day late ie. on a Monday not Sunday, but
a week early, if that makes sense. On top of that somebody has put the village church back a week early too! On the plus side the carillon in the bell tower, where I used to be a member of the ringing team, hasn't rung for donkeys years but today played a
tune. However it seems to be about two months fast because the tune it played was "Auld Lang Syne.0 -
I couldn't resist a quick peek at this and it says not to use the two together. More for occasional use than a heavy duty one used in bedsits.
Well, that is not so good!
We have the Lidl £25 oven/grill, it uses 1300 watts max, then we also have a 2 ring electric hob, cost also about £25, in case we want to cook outside, which we do quite often if the weather is nice.
The hob has a big ring that draws 1400 watts and a small one that draws 800 watts, so we can use the oven plus one electric ring at the same time if we want. That seems more versatile than having one combined unit where you can only use either the oven or the hob.
This year we noticed that we used the portable hob only once, due to poor weather we did much more cooking in the van, so we are thinking perhaps we really do not need it. After all there is still the electric ring on the caravan cooker, plus using the gas rings really uses very little gas.
In colder weather, we use the electric oven inside the van, either on the worktop or on the cooker top if we are not needing to use the hob.
Warms the van up nicely, the thermostat turns off the van heating.
No danger of tripping the bollard as our Alde automatically cuts off its own power when necessary.

...Did mine online they used photo from passport ,it was all done and new licence in a week
One of the more intelligent moves by the Department is the acceptance that, by and large, we don't alter facially that much after 65 or 70, so the old P.P. picture is a good 'un !!

Just to add.......we bought the 2 ring electric hob when we had our previous van as it was all gas.
We also bought a small microwave to use in that van (pre fitted microwave era), but found we barely used it so gave it to our daughter when she went to university, and replaced it back in 2007 with the Lidl oven, which has been excellent.
We do use the caravan gas oven and grill every so often, but as we cook with electricity at home, OH prefers using the electric oven. Oven temperature control seems more precise with electricity.

Had to buy a new angle grinder for cutting some paving flags. Bought Wickes own brand......£25! It had good reviews and, I have to say, for the price it seems to do the job very well, with its 850 watt motor.
Also bought a Wickes diamond tipped masonary cutting disc for it. Cost about £16 but massively better than the standard discs. Doesn't wear down, so you get the full depth of cut throughout and a far cleaner cut than you get with standard discs. Got all
my paving flags cut to shape this afternoon. Thoroughly recommended!0 -
Just back from a game of bowls. Talk about a game of two halves. Playing against one of the top league teams we were getting very excited, winning 8 - 1 half way through. Sadly, couldn't keep it going and lost 14 - 8 in the end. If only we'd rung that fire
bell at 7 o'clock!Oh well, there's always tomorrow!

All I did was press F5 a few times but it didn't change pippah's photo, so following instruction from SteveL & TW I've cleared my cache and can now see pippah's dog too. Just hope I've not lost too much along the way.

Applied on line yesterday for driving licence due to looming 70th, seemd to go through ok once I had figured out the information they wanted.
Did the same a last year and didn't have a problem. The system seemed to work well.

We've had a couple of the twin ring hobs from Aldi, but they don't seem to last more than a couple of years before they break down. Guess we've spent as much on them as we would have spent on extra gas, but at least they do help to keep the caravan warmer
for longer than gas.0 -

Ours is a Russel Hobbs, seems to be lasting well .

Did the same two weeks ago but for passport renewal, must say that I was very impressed. Received new passports ten days after sending off the old ones, along with application form that has to be printed out and two new photos. Found the process very easy.....

We've got up to a rather wet morning here in Worthing. It's raining as I type this. We've just finished breakfast.

In a brief dry spell yesterday managed an hour on Penhale Dunes, to give the dog a run.
Moulesy you are very lucky to have them on your doorstep when in Cornwall.
It finally stopped raining about 10 o'clock last night, but forecast for today is looking much better, not decided what are plans are today yet.

Penhale Dunes is a great place to let the dogs have a run with little chance of upsetting non dog owners, particularly in the morning and early evening. It's one of the reasons we chose that area. Did you make it over to the lost church?
Glad the weather's looking up; see you on Friday hopefully!
