Paying bills and other bits of paperwork this morning. And, being thankful for the rain; it's washing in the seeds we sowed yesterday. But I think we've had enough now!

Good morning, Ian. We're following your advice about Chipping Sodbury. We'll go there on 31st August to get the air-conditioner sorted and have a couple of days break from work. I've already told the boss that we need those two days off.

    Well done, Malcolm.....a wise decision.

Hope you and Mrs M have a nice break. Laughing

Wet for all of the morning, so we headed to Lidl, Charlies and Tesco this morning, and then to PC World at Meole Brace to get e-mails which I couldn't access sorted out. Done and dusted within 45mins so well pleased. Dryer this afternoon and evening although
a heavy shower has passed through. Guess those at the V Festival at Weston Park will have caught it during one of the evening performances.

You might want to lend the boy a pair of wellies, Helen. I well remember running Gloucester league cross country races through Cirencester park many years ago. If the course goes down into the bottom of those woods it'll become a truly muddy challenge!! Wink

Wet from around 11am onwards, spent the day in the garage altering 3 Ikea wine racks for DD so they fit in her living room cupboard.

Caravan hitch still in bits on the driveway as required parts have not yet arrived.

Painting on hold meantime due to rain.  Going to be bad tomorrow too.

Spent the morning in the kitchen rustling up meals to freeze for MiL so she has something quick she can turn to whilst we're enjoying ourselves in France next month.

Crossed a few more items off our "to do" list and phoned my brother to arrange a meeting when we stop near Portsmouth before catching the ferry.

Dreadful weather here today. Hope everyone in a 'van/mh is safe. Good news is that forecast from Tuesday onwards to Bank Holiday Monday seems good.

Fitted 12s socket to a towcar today for a friend of a friend, no longer undertake auto-electrics as a profession, good to earn a bit extra now and then, helps to pay for holidays etc.

Not as bad today as they predicted, quite pleasant this morning. Went into town to see about OH opening up a new bank account, need to find somewhere to put his new pensionWink before
going in I sspent 1hr on the phone trying to set up a new current account for me for when my pension starts, I think the only question they didn't ask was my shoe size Surprised This
afternoon we tackled the utility room and had a good clear out of that, what a differance everything now nice and tidy and tomorrow it will be another trip to the skip. Had a light rain shower this afternoon but not as bad as we thought it was going to be.
Hope everyone out in their vans are safe.

Not a bad day weather wise here in Shropshire, bit cloudy, breeze and the odd spot of rain, but mainly fine. Went to Attingham Park for a good long walk this morning and a shorter one round the Walled Garden and the Pleasure Grounds.

TG - it's a right pain opening a bank account these days......they're all worried about money laundering, apparantly.

A local charity that I'm involved with tried to open an account and it took months.....and months.

Should this be in the Dogs Only post?Wink Only joking....certainly not the sort of thing want to find on your chosen pitch. There are too many members walking their dogs round a site, not bothering to take them to the dog walk, to do their buiness. One wonders how lazy some members can be!!

Hope your son has a good day tomorrow.

I opened an account with HSBC.....that took a few weeks, but some are easier.  Just did one with Tesco, went through very quickly.  Always do these things on-line as far as possible.

Rather than savings accounts (other than NS&I) we are using current accounts that pay 3, 4 and 5% interest, though only on limited amounts.  If you have enough accounts you can accommodate a fair amount.

Unfortunately rates seem to be about to fall, soon they will be next to nothing.  Santander are going from 3% to 1.5% in November apparently. Sad

Fixed rate monthly savers are also useful to cycle money through. Some are still paying 6%.

Quite a bit of rain on and off today, but no wind.

Got one new bit for the van today, but have had to order alternative bolts for the hitch as the ones that OH went to pick up from our dealer turned out not to be the correct ones after all.

Having ascertained the grade of steel required, I was able to source suitable alternatives.

Yesterday we got a new lock for our local  Guide Hall that OH looks after, so today I have fitted it and done a few other tasks there....cleaned out the dehumidifiers....put out the bins....dealt with the recycling....started distributing the new keys.

Tomorrow we are going to DD's for a family get-together as there is a birthday in the family. Hope the weather will be better!

The majority of the accounts that pay the 5% etc you have to swtich to them to get it (M&S)  being one of them. The problem I have with that is I don't have an account to switch Frown we
have always just used the one joint current account.  So today I applied for a current account in my own name with a bank that I had savings with years ago, just need to see if it goes through. Failing that I will open one with my current bank (joint account)
then move it once I've had it awhile. Nobody wants you to deposit large amounts anymore, and the savings account that offer 5% are usually only 12mths, you are limited to saving £300/£500 a month.
