Belt or Braces ?

I've always held my trousers up with a belt. However, as age and expanding girth have crept up on me, I find myself having to constantly hitch up my trousers when out for a walk. A pain when wearing several layers on the top half.

A partial solution was found, in trousers with elasticated waist bands, such as Craghoppers Kiwi trousers. Elastic belts also helped.

But I have now given in, and bought several sets of clip on braces (suspenders in Americanese). OK, they look ridiculous, but hidden under a zipped up walking jacket no one is any the wiser.

Getting the tension correct is important, to avaoid getting a 'wedgie', once adjusted the comfort and security is brilliant.

Am I alone in this ?

I know what you mean Rich, but where do you get braces that hold on to your trousers without unclipping,  when you bend down ?

HH i so agree. Buttons were the answer but it's difficult to find bracers other than clip ons and trousers with buttons already in situ.

It all depends on the waist size and how long a belt you can find.

Richard,  a  lot  of  the  time  I  can  be  found  using  a  belt   {purely  to  have  something  to  hook  my  wallet  &  key  chain  on }  and  a  pair  of  American  Clip  on  braces  to  hold  my  bags  up  Embarassed  !

These  Braces  ( £10  a  throw )  are  ample  length  &  come  in  divers  colour ways or  patterns.  Right  now  they  are  Black  with  Smiley  faces  every  3  inches,  but  some  have  D I Y tools  depicted,  some  Gardening  Tools,  but  Sundays  Are  Specials  'cos  they  have  bootiful  pink  flamingoes   Laughing   !  Who  would  want  to  hide  those  ??

Don't they unclip, or haven't you bent down yet Rich ?

Maybe my OH is the exception to the rule. He keeps having to make another hole in his belt as his waist gets thinner.

Belts for me except when out climbing or hill walking in bad weather, rain and snow soaked trousers can be heavy and uncomfortable, the addition of a pair of clip on braces adds to safety.

Belt for my OH who has, like others, kept his trim shape!

My brother still uses a belt I brought him back from Corfu in 1975 - and it still fits him.

A very wide belt so not only does it keep the trews up but keeps the stomach in.  AKA a cummerband.

My belts still fit perfectly well, but my waist appears to have moved downhill by a couple of inches.

Belts for me. Tried braces over Christmas and they just end up pulling the back of your trousers up and giving you a nasties wedgie.
