When are you old?

I have just stopped seeing my father's image whenever I look at a mirror. Now it is my Grandad. So it got me thinking when are you old. I think my mother is old, as she is 100, but she thinks all the other residents in her sheltered accomodation are old. This despite her being by far the oldest. My kids have thought I am old for many years. So I put it to you when are you old?

Our local surgery considers 85 as the age when they consider someone old.

Somebody called me an OAP recently and I asked them not to as it made me sound 'old' and I don't feel old or like an OAP.

To me, 80 years is old.  Happy

I think it all depends on the person, my Dad died at 66. My brother is now 66 but nothing like my Dad was. My children now in their 40's say that we in our 60's are not old, but agree Grandad was old. My OH is 65 this year fit and healthy, couldn't imagine
my Dad at that age driving a car/caravan or motorhome all the way to the tip of Spain. We are still youngsters compared to some we meet on our travels, the oldest I think we have met was in his early 90's and still towing a caravan to France every year.

You are as old as you feelSmile

True Tammygirl and I think the generation my grandparents came from always appeared old to us.

We have a friend who, I think, was born 'old'. Even in his 30s he had all the 'grandad' traits; his manner, his looks, and particularly his dress sense.

My brain thinks I am 40. In the mornings my back is about 80 but during the day it gets younger until it reaches about 50. My knees are about 40, knuckles on left hand about 75. Left ankle was 65 after I fell off the caravan step but now getting younger,
thank goodness. As for eyes and hearing, not sure.

You are old if you can remember the advert on the trams/buses of 'IDRIS when IS DRI'.

Most people's perception of the age when somebody is considered old is 10 years older than they themselves are at any given time.

It's only when you find a task challenging that previously wasn't that you realise you are getting older. You mind and body seldom agree.

A quote from '24 Hours in A&E' last week:

"Growing old isn't much fun, but it's better than the alternative"

Made us smile, and then we booked the ferry when we got ok medical test results.

Well I'm 71 and I don't think I am really old. I'm trying to grow old discracefully and I don't think Ive managed it yet.

Plenty of caravanning left still but nowadays I dont struggle with the awning much. Well only on Grass pitches cannot manage those infernal all weather surfaces any more.

Thinking about it though if it dosen't stop raining soon the grass will get like sea weed!

I think that I might start building a ruddy big boat, and start drinking Rum!  The Admiral will be proud of me then.
