Hi going on our first trip to Spain with our caravan and was wondering what is the procedure if you break down on a French motor way, do l call Red Penant, or do l have to use the emergency roadside phone.

thanks in advance.

Never broke down there so never thought about it but if you are worried I would ring the club and ask.

French law is that you use the emergency phone which connects to the police. They arrange a tow off the autoroute to a place of safety (local garage!)You then phone Red Pennant and they will sort everything in the local language. When my son in law broke down
on the autoroute a few years ago I was very impressed with the service from all parties.Hopefully you will not be in a position to have to experience it!!!

Yes that's right, with any breakdown company, RAC, AA, Red Pennat ETC, if you breakdown on a French motorway you can only use the breakdown service that covers that motorway, they will charge you but you claim it back from your breakdown service.

Thank you also DS3 for your reply, just got back from Spain thankfully didn't have to use breakdown insurance or services.

We have just used this service; 48 hrs before we had to catch the Eurotunnel home. We used the SOS box, were towed off (etc). Were provided with a replacement tow car because ours could not be fixed within time scales. I WAS going to start another discussion
entitled, 'Credit Where it is due'. We are really very impressed with the service we got and this time it was worth its weight in gold. Reading this, I am happy that there is a chance of claiming back the two fee [€350].
