So is BW no longer a honeypot site?

Apparently the honeypot sites get booked up on frenzy day by block bookers.

Did book it yesterday just in case I was befuddled. But the last 2 bookings there were made outwith frenzy day. Happy

Perhaps the frenzy day is a myth put out to attempt to free up pitches? Tongue Out

I am very surprised to see the vacancies, usually the site is very booked up, in fact I've never seen so much space there! I wonder if the "full" grass pitch area has caused confusion? I'm pretty sure I checked yesterday (after the early rush) and thought most of July had gone....strange.Undecided

After the intital rush yesterday there is quite a bit of space left at Baltic Wharf so although a lot of weekends have gone it's possible to get a few days there.

Write your comments here... Having looked again today, the majority of dates here are fully booked, yes there are a few dates midweek which appear free but as most people work midweek they can only book weekends and bank holidays/festive periods. I fail
to see how the majority of the year can be booked up here within two hours of going live unless certain people block book. And yes there are some who regularly go back to the same sites most weekends as it's convenient for them and close to amenities they
want or enjoy. They are not big sites so the choice is very limited. Absolutely no chance.

I've just checked again, scrolled down to hardstandings with or without awnings and I think there is quite a bit of space available. This might show the

    spaces
. The grass pitches aren't even in existence so you need to scroll down further each time.

...That is what a lot people who say sites are "full"have just looked at the first part of of a sites availability without scrolling down to other pitch typesUndecided

Funny enough its the sites in Yorkshire that we have problems getting and that's going to be even harder next season with the amount of sites closed for refurbishment.

Our first site next year was to be Wharfdale, OK closed, so then Knaresborough - closed. We have booked a commercial site near harrogate instead for the first 5 nights of our tour in Apil / May

Thank goodness you didn't try Hawes after your first two disappointments! I like Rudding Park (or do I get drummed out for mentioning the name of a non-CC site?) Oops.

Been to Hawes a couple of times in the last 11 years. Last time we were booked in for 4 nights at the start of a tour. In the event we decided to shove off from home three days early. We decided a day or two afterwards tha twe had already seen enough of
the area and so left after 4 nights

I find it strange that folk can book many more than that. There was one member who had an offspring at Uni there I think and tried to book a few times a year. No idea if they were all at weekend though.

I have spent a day in York on 6 occasions in the last 12 to 14 years. More than enough.
I would have no interest at staying at the Rowntree site in any event. I usually stay somewhere for 5 nights and move on. One day in York is ample for me at any one time and so would prefer the site outside and use the P&R for one day

Agree with you there ET. We used a small commercial site which has EHu & WiFi, but no toilet block, just outside of the ring road. There's a bus stop close to the entrance, with an hourly service into the city. Hope to use it again this next year.

Did anyone find the definitive 'Honey pot' sites list?

Thus far in this thread Baltic Wharf appers to not be one, but Rowntree and Chatsworth are. Is that the sum of the angst, 2 sites?

Not been to Rowntree, but did York several times a couple of years ago whilst working in Northumberland so had mini breaks using a hotel deal at less than the CC site fees on each half term and school holidays over a 9 month period. Did Chatsworth last school
summer holidays with booking 3 weeks before arrival, on a serviced pitch of which occupancy was 56% in that row and about 80% occupancy on rest of site. Been there done that site review sums it up.

    York.

Actually the Premier Inn on Clifton Rd worked out at £55/night last time we went and theres a great Beefeatery type pub adjacent.  went in the car, saved flogging over the Pennines in the van.

But don't tell anyone or it will be full next time there's anything on at the Barbican.....Wink

We can have 4 nights at York for that price, and not have to evacuate our room whenever the staff want to clean it!!

I took a look yesterday for Berwick on Tweed for next Chirstmas only to find it is fully booked whereas I could still book for the same period at Chatsworth.

Is Chatsworth now relegated from the 'Honey Pot' list? That makes Rowntree the only 1 left Tongue Out

So we are left with Rowntree cos you can walk into town......??

How about a minibus service from Beechwood like they do from Strathclyde....?

If the club wants me to run one, I am available, at a price....!

It will be interesting to know if the bookings are up or down this year. The CC usually posts some updates after booking day.
