Steve Scott, What will you do when you retire??. I have seen some strange things on ths forum, but your comment take the biscuit!!
Write your comments here...Hi Broadside do i take it that you are retired?and you don't fancy giving up your chance of a pitch to make it easier for family members to book Or is it that you don't understand humour.

<<However, as to a rolling period, this is still going to result in individual weekends at the honeypots and popular weeks on others being released at a particular time.>>
I do not understand why booking isn't permanently open and on a rolling basis in which case no sites/pitches would need to be 'released' at any time.
If it is on a rolling basis, say a year, you still have a date where specific days become available to book. So for those intent on going to those sites on those days, there will still be the incentive to sit on the button as they are released. All you end up with is lots of mini frenzy days for the honeypots.
Steve, I hate to labour the point but I still fail to understand why there should be a 'release' date at all. Surely there could be the opportunity to book say 2 years ahead on the understanding that the site will still be available so far into the future.
E.g. every year that I am at a specific event where the dates are critical, say the Isle of Man T.T., I book and pay a deposit for the following year, fully appreciating and accepting that the hotel may burn down or be closed in the meantime. If precise dates and locations/events are really so important to CC members they could book sites on the same understanding. 'First come, first served' so forth. After all, there are no penalties for cancelling.

The bookings are already 'First come, first served'
Having a 'release date' no doubt simplifies the application of new pitch fees.

It is a very popular event and many come back year after year, as with the TT.

I made a single booking at 0930 ish just to see how the system was working. I can always cancel it if I don't take it up.

What's 'to get away with' in complying with the rules of the booking system? The system allows bookings that are able to be cancelled without any form of penalty up to 72 hours in advance, 3 times within 72 hours and you get an e-mail.

i also booked a 'popular' site in a BH week, as i might be around then....like Peedee, i can always let that booking go to someone else if the diary doesnt fit....
i havent a clue as to where ill be or what ill be doing on a particular day in May, however, if im here, and i still want to go,to the 'popular' site, ill go....if not....
I remember someone(not me) pointing out that any sites booked but not used & further released back into the system would actually help others to get a chance to book it later on in the year. So to BB et al I would say well done for helping to spread the
booking day out over the year. It's in the rules & certainly not abused0 -
I've stumbled into and am flabbergasted by the ridiculous hysterical panic in this thread. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why the CC create the 'Black Friday' effect for pitch shoppers by having an 'opening day' for bookings. Surely it would solve the problem if booking was a continuous and rolling process all year when one could book at any time and without a deadline?
You must be reading a different thread to me. I've seen a lot of happy people, a few philosophical folk and some sour grapes, but not a lot of hysterical panic. However, as to a rolling period, this is still going to result in individual weekends at the honeypots and popular weeks on others being released at a particular time. It will therefore still favour those of us who can sit by the button, and is unlikely to stop the moans of those who fail to get what they want.
No, I read many posts referring to continuous (and it seemed, panic) clicking and the celebratory cries of relief when someone managed to make a booking.

Write your comments here...So a rolling period of one year is the suggestion I presume. How do you book two weeks holiday, one day at a time as the year rolls forward or wait until the last day you want to book. If you want a popular site, anyone wanting your first week would book up ahead of you and you still would not get what you wanted.
Although this system has its faults, mainly for those working during the day and those wanting school and public holidays. It is not impossible to overcome. We have always managed to book our two preferred sites on launch day as we do not need or want peak periods, and having checked at the end of the day, the sites we booked still had vacancies on the dates we booked. All other bookings we make on late avaiability as and when we need to.
Hopefully other retired folk do the same, leaving school holiday dates free for other members who need them.
For the record it took 20 minutes to book the first site, and when asked if I wanted to make another booking, I was sent back to the queue and took a further 15 minutes.

I personally doubt that the Club allows you to cancel 72 hours in advance was done for any other reason than to assist those who are genuinly unable to fulfil a booking, not to encourage a culture of speculative bookings to cover every possible eventuality in your possible plans for the next year.
There may be a difference between what is within the rules as written, and what they were actually meant to achieve or facilitate.
I do appreciate that people will use the "rules" to their advantage, but to be actively encouraging such practice seems strange, unless you are hoping to cause such widespread "abuse" that you force the club into making changes.....??

T1, it's just attitude. I see a positive for folk who follow the rules & you see a negative. It isn't life or death, no one is suffering in the big scheme. its a numbers game that the majority support. If it was the minority who both supported it & gained
by it there would be a big outcry, there isn't. Democracy prevails0 -

Write your comments here...The word selfish comes to mind here. Peedee states that the booking was made only to see how the systemwas working. This may prevent a fellow member from having a holiday that they actually intended to take.

Clearly if everybody attempted to use the rules as written to their advantage by mass bookings of sites only to be discarded then the booking system would fail.
I am not suggesting that anybody on here has done that, but i am suggesting that it is irresponsible to encourage speculative booking. Personally I dont see following the rules as negative as you suggest, but I do see "bending" rules as negative. It's just
the way I have lived my life sorry....0 -

That question has already been answered above but if it eases your mind, it is a repeat of a booking I made for this year which I could not honour for medical reasons and I hope to be able to fulfil in 2017 but it is so far down the line I cannot guarantee that. I am only doing what many others obviously do.
As it is a low season booking not on any of the honeypot sites I could have obviously left booking until much later.

No apology needed T1. I just don't get the outpouring of perceived injustice. As you say-"tiny tiny percentage" are using CT & of that there is a tiny percentage within that tiny tiny percentage vocal in their annoyance at the way things are. I'm talking
of actual rules not fantasy of ifs & buts & maybes. It works, it also works well for most folk0 -

Can someone with more experience tell me when this thread is likely to run out of steam?
it's becoming my guilty pleasure and I wouldn't want to organise any time away from Wifi while it's still running.
Usually when people start calling each other names......then a Mods closes it....!

Indeed I expect that all of my bookings could have been done later ............ however I have been wrong before.
We went to Old Hartley on 1st September 2013 and was surprised that it was full for the 4 nights that we were there
