Were you there when the children weren't in school, Crannmam?

I've heard other reports of how quiet things are off peak and I've just made a mid-week booking in Dorset to see what it's like for myself. At £7.33 per night, including EHU and entertainment, I thought it worth a gamble.

I'm just back from Monday to Friday at Lakeland and didn't experience any of the things described.

    I'd try another one

I asked the question a month or two back.

CC site Ayr Craigie Gardens, a known standard or Haven Craig Tara which was cheaper and more going on. Replies I got were not that good for this particular Haven site so I chose the CC site. Although I'm more of a CL person, one day I'll venture onto a Haven leisure site for a taster but it will only be off season and when the kids are in school.

That was my logic, Dave. I've seen the Perran Sands site when it's busy and that sure is something to avoid.

having used a half dozen or so of their sites (some more than once) i guess i am an advocate....

however, golden rules....not in school hols or weekends if possible....

perran in the first or second week of the season was delightful...quiet, good weather, amazing facilities, camping well away from 'the holiday area' (as with many other of their sites)...oh, and cheap as chips.

however, it IS NOT the CC....

for those who've done a bit of THS-ing it will seem fine, but to those who only 'do' CC, then it might not be your thing.

however, for very many, it fills a gap in early or late season where the 'bangs per buck' ratio are very good.

I'm booked on Hunters Moon at Wareham from this Friday for at least a week. It's nearly three times your price. So I've just checked out the Seaview site at Weymouth. Their pitches must be tiny as they haven't any left to fit my van. (7mtrs). but it only
worked out at £56 for a week. Incredible.

If I was going to try a Haven site I'd be tempted by the one at Thornwick Bay. Creature of East Coast habit.

we done haven at cleethorpe t(thorp park) both times early season with a two year old grand child. we found it quiet in the evening plenty for little one to do she loves being in the swimming pool. no noisey parties there was a field near the wardens office
to fly a kite play football or what ever.OK would not venture to such a site when it is in full flow perhaps we have been lucky on our visits.

    From their site booking page:

    Pitch

Electric Grass with Awning - Approx pitch size 6.4mx6.4m (21ftx21ft)

    2 Adults

Could either have with EHU or without but no other choice.

    Never mind

I put in the size of the MH and up popped the Europitch HS. I can't recall any other options being offered. That was 24 hrs ago and I followed the CC link to the Haven website.

The other Haven site down by the Fleet was slightly cheaper but only had reinforced grass pitches available.

    Correction. Our booked Europitch is 7m x 7m (23' x 23')

Interestingly, the prices have risen about £3 p/n in the last 24 hrs.

Was at Thorpe Park a few weeks ago sun to Thurs. No problem if you go when kids not there.few minutes walk to beach for walking dogs. Lakeland last year probably some of havens best pitches. Go to Seaview every year. All euro full service pitches and all
    for under£10 a night.

Stayed on two Haven sites this year, first may bank holiday at Thornwick bay Flamborough had no problems what so ever, second was two weeks ago at Mablethorpe only saw about five children again no problems. Remember if you decide to go book via phone instead
of their website, you get a 10% discount for being a member of CC.

Interestingly, the prices have risen about £3 p/n in the last 24 hrs.

just on the 'pitch size' thing....its perfectly possible to pitch larger vans than the sizes quoted, provided everyone is happy to overhang the pitch.

their quoted HS sizes are often (say) 7m, so when we put in our van size ((7.3m) it will rule out these pitches, despite the wheelbase only being 4+ m.

a quick word with the site warden (via the normal cust service line) usually clears up the situation. i have explained to them before that they are losing business by excluding vans that would be overhanging a HS at the rear by a foot or so.....but....

also, as you say, prices can/do change.....they will generally rise the closer you get to your arrival date.....

Not yet stayed on one but I am going to try one soon. It won't be during school holidays but then we only use adult only sites then anyway.

With the kind of prices mentioned here they have got to be worth a try.

The there seems now to be quite a few options for Camping at below £10 a night.

I have been wondering just who is telling new CL's to charge £15 as some of the new CL's in this month's comic are asking. As I don’t want to duplicate the other thread I'll leave it at that

Have stayed a few times. Never in holidays or W/E. Anyone with a modicum of sense would realise Haven will be child friendly/ Family types in School Hols.Never had any problems.Notices a thread here earlier moaning about the rowdiness at CC site Pembrey.Nothing
    is perfect.

I stayed at Ayr and Edinburgh sites over easter a couple of years ago, both were pretty full as you'd expect, frankly they were okay, and good value if you use the facilities. However there will be kids, and the general behaviour may not be what a CC goer
would expect, they're commercial sites after all. Would I use them again? Probably yes, but 2nd choice.

Mind some of the behaviour I've seen on CC sites have surprised me, and I'm pretty laid back.

As I said earlier we just got back from a stay at Lakeland. It's easy to see that in peak season or weekends it would be somewhere I'd not even consider but for the £20.01 I paid for the first 3 nights of our stay on a fully serviced euro pitch I was happy to take the risk. If I'd hated it I'd have packed up and come home.

When we checked in we were given a sheet with numbers for security and there were loads of staff milling around. There's also a noise curfew of 11pm I think. Perhaps giving them a call may have helped?

Stayed at a Haven site in Portmadog north wales a few years back. For starters no security on the gates so just drove in.A man on a tractor came up and looked at the paperwork and said use that pitch there. The pitch was a concrete oblong with a surrounding
area totally devoid of any grass just mudy puddles. When the van was positioned on the slab the mains bollard was so close i could,nt open the door too the Thetford cassette
Sad.Lunatics running about at all hours almost decappitating themselves on my guy ropes. The only plus side was it was the entertainment which
was good for the grandchildren. Not been back.

We used a Haven site near Pi**ing Perenforth years ago when the kids were little. Apart from ...... gale force winds from day 2 onwards, SWMBO & our daughter being ill and them losing our daughter at the Crocodile Club it was great! Innocent (daughter
was found at the top of the climbing frame in the lobby of the entertainment club)

It must've been its very wet twin town! Wink Glorious the day we got there, the kids spent the afternoon in the dunes while we set up ...... from
there on it either rained or piddled it down and bent the awning poles due to the wind pushing on the side.
