Sites near towns
Having a motorhome and not towing a car its nice to find sites that are within walking distance of towns local attractions etc. Many years ago when we had a caravan we just got in our car and off we'd go.. everything needs alittle more planning in a m/h We are not afraid of walking or catching buses but its nice to find sites in a town especially in the winter. Now I know I could just look. and I do..on Google maps but I get bored. so any suggestions. We do like Tewkesbury it suited us and our dog

Cirencester is another obvious one! One of our favourite club sites, huge dog walk and the park right next-door. Easy 10 minute walk into town.
Also Broadway and Moreton in Marsh are well placed for walking into the towns (villages?)

Warwick racecourse site is just a short stroll to the town centre. Wonderful castle, river, pubs, shops etc
Good dog walking, too, from the site.

Just thought of Brecon Beacons site too. Easy stroll along the canal into Brecon one way or along to Pencelli the other way.

Cheltenham Race Course Site, has a bus stop just outside. The obvious ones are of course Rowantree Pk, York & Baltic Warfe, Bristol but the problem is that it's very difficult to book a pitch on either.

The OP might find this existing thread contains a lot of the information he needs. I also have quite an extensive list of UK campsites which are near towns or near transport links here just look for the green motorhome symbol next to the site report.

Melrose Gibson Park is right at one end of the town. There's also a booklet of walks which is exceptional

Exmoor House site is right by the little town of Dulverton. A good range of food shops, cafés, hostelries and other local amenities within 5 minutes' walk.

try Castleton 5min into town
Hardly a town though. I'd go so far as to say it's beyond Hope.

Used to like Buxton, nice walk down through the woods to the town. However, have not been for a few years and might find it a bit more difficult now, as site is probably the highest in the network at 1330 ft AOD and some 360 ft above the town.

Burrs Country Park at Bury. Lovely park at the gates of the site to walk the dogs and 20 minute walk into Bury or the bus not far from the site and links into Mancheter, lovely site if you can get a booking :-)

Oxford C&CC site is good great access to the coty a 20 min walk or you can catch a bus from right outside the site. Moffat C&CC also very good right in the town and there is a good selection of pubs and shops in the town. As others have said Berwick seaview
is good for the town as is York Rowntree and York Beechwood Grange. Ayr Craigie Gardens is also right in the townhope this helps

Chester Fairoaks. 10 min walk to Outlet village, where you can get buses to Chester and, others correct me if I'm wrong, you can also go to Liverpool? Also on our first visit, we worked out you could eat in a different place every night for a week all
within that 10 min walk.0 -

Ah thanks everyone it seems i've been to most of the sites mentioned a few I haven't so will check them out.
Why I mentioned Tewkesbury, its so close to town its great when the weather is a little iffy and raining..its sites like these that are ideal especially in the winter. When the weather is good we will walk for miles. We have used a few independant sites
and found they can be alittle nearer to amenities than CC sites.Kas

within that 10 min walk. You can indeed get the bus to Liverpool from Cheshire Oaks but it's not something I'd recommend. Better to get the train from Ellesmere Port 5 minutes away.
