Hard standing booking trial

like Ian, we havent been confused much this year....we've been vanning solely in the UK and have used a few commercials and have always known the pitch type we have booked and will be sited on.
it really isnt that difficult....

Exactly. As I said, the confusion wasn't with the customers.

So far, this year, we haven't used a CC site. We went over to France, Germany and Italy during the summer. Before that we only went away once, with friends to Conkers C & C C site (when we booked a hardstanding). Since the summer hols we went down to Wareham Forest Touring site (couldn't get in at Hunters Moon), and we have had two visits to Cornwall where we use a favourite non-club site of ours. Our first Club site will be in about a fortnight, when we hope to go the Blackshaw Moor. As the site is fully hardstanding, then that is not a problem.
I was hoping that if this trial was rolled out further, that we would use more CC sites, but I guess that won't be the case now.

How does that work?
Simple. I want hard standing and to stay from Monday until Monday morning (7 nights) I want hard standing - oops the HS are booked up over weekend. I will book 5 nights then and move on
this only works if you moved to a site NOT in the trial, where you might grab a HS at the weekends ONLY by relying on first come first served and arriving early...
moving to another site IN the trial (or post roll-out) would probably raise the same issue....booked HS.
Exactly. This year the 5 trial sites are spead out. In my case if I was certain of grass on these sites then I would stay less time and move on. In my case it would probably be to a 'commercial' site

Write your comments here... Surely all the CC grass pitches are all out of commission now till at least March next year .
Then it's back to first come , first served for H/S pitches , of course you can always go elsewhere........

I wonder if this decision has been overly influenced by site wardens? Perhaps they did encounter some members who were confused/annoyed they coudn't select from the available free pitches because they had not paid sufficient attention when booking their
pitch. I would have thought that being the front line of the CC the wardens should have seen their role as explaining the situation rather than perhaps complaining to head office that they were getting too many complaints?David

We've only visited 4 CC sites for a total of 20 days this year and they've been predominantly HS anyway. So we'll still use the sites when it suits next year, but I have to say that we'll probably check if there are C&CC sites in the area too.

Something else that is really confusing. The majority of contributors to this thread seem to be generally in agreement .
yes, Spooky......must be the time of year....
Also many contributors to this thread seem to contribute to other threads with CC. I would guess that is a very small percentage of the membership of the club as a whole.

agree with DD above....
whilst, numerically, the regular posters on CT are a small percentage, this particular thread has resulted in almost total unity.....
..that this additional booking option was just what they had been asking for and amounted to more choice of pitch type along with confidence that their selection would be available on arrival....at whatever time....
however, CC have placed a higher weighting on the 'bottom line' of nights booked down by a small percentage and of an amount of confusion among some members...
unfortunately, thats 'business'..apparently....

As some have said, grass pitches are often the last to be taken. Hard standings are often preferred by heavy outfits, be it MH or twin axles caravans. A desire to book a HS is made evident to the CC. The CC run a trial, too small perhaps, across only a few
sites. Some members are not aware of the trial, confusion ensues. The CC conclude that booking a HS will not be made available. Some members again say booking a HS is desirable, and that they have gone elswhere be it CC&C , CLs CSs or commercial sites in order
to guarantee a HS. We ourselves have spent far fewer nights on CC sites since having the MH than when we had the caravan, and the number of MHs is on the increase as I understand it. Also CC prices are generally fairly high. It is no surprise to me that people
look elsewhere. If I can be guaranteed a HS and save perhaps £3 per night ( That's £300 per year this year ) why would I not look elswhere, and avoid the 12 noon rush as a bonus.0 -

Not just motorhomes and twin axles! Many want hard standing. I am not concerned about being stuck. Like many I simply prefer HS

It is often a vocal minority that represent the wishes of the silent majority. This is recognised widely, for example it only takes 100k people out of a population of around 67 million to sign a petition to trigger a debate in Parliament. Sadly I doubt,
in fact I am almost 100% sure, that CC Ltd will take absolutely no notice of what has been said in this thread.Ineresting example. Not something I was aware of.

The CC head office have made their decision on this subject. The decision is final and there will be no change of mind.
This thread will have absolutely no effect on the running of the CC business. Members have two options if they feel strongly about the issue------, Accept the decision of Head office-- or resign from the CC.

Or depending on area visited, arrival times, time of year, ratio of grass to hatd they can simply look elsewhere if they think that the liklihood of getting a hard standing is poor. There have been a couple of sites that I have not used for those reasons

Those of you that have used the C&CC booking system would not want it transplanted across to the CC because its slow and you have to go through a lot of hoops to get to where you want to be. However one aspect of their website that would have done away with
any confusion is the point at which you select the pitch you want. You have to make a selection from, for example, grass pitch without electricity, grass with, hardstanding with, etc, etc. That way there can be no misunderstanding of what sort of pitch you
have booked.David

I don't think it's that much slower David; certainly not enough to make it hard to use. I find it's the logging in to start with which takes the most time. We've used C&CC sites more over the past couple of years and will probably continue to do so next
year, especially when we can get the ACR prices!0 -
Might I suggest that, if everyone on here who has commented that they are aagainst the idea of being able to book a pitch type, sent an email to the CC saying just that, then they might be more likely to listen.
Certainly, past experience seems to show that they won't take a great deal of notice of the comments on here.
I've just sent my email.

based on the 'interesting' conclusion to the trial, perhaps if many members sent an email, as Ian suggests, the CC might just implement a system where you can book a HS pitch type...

I'm in. Email sent with a summary of the fees they have lost from us due to the risk of grass during peak season.
When you have to set up sleeping spaces in an awning you don't want grass. Lifting groundsheets daily is one thing, dismantling annexe liners is another world of hurt that we can do without.
