Pitching Instruction

When I saw the word "revolutionary" I thought, "The've cracked it! Rotating pitches to suit everyone at the same time!".

Just the thing to ensure a south facing awning.

Several years ago, (actually, many years ago), at the Blackshaw Moor site at Leek, before hard standings were put in you had to unhook the caravan from the car at reception whereupon the warden, (who from memory had a funny little black moustache and a strange
way of waving to you), would hitch it up to his tractor and take it and position it on your pitch. He didn't want his grass being damaged by
incapable drivers. If this system were to be employed again for all sites we would have no-one to blame for a badly pitched 'van other than the warden.0 -
If that system was in place today, John, (as it is at Bath Chew Valley) I suspect sites would be much emptier because most of us would go elsewhere and wave bye-bye to CC.

Totally aggree with you there. We have been to Bath Chew Valley and wouldn't go again. I like my 4x4 next to my caravan, not in a car park. How many scratches would you get in the car park.

Thats what happens in many sites on the continent, you are only allowed on site in your car to pitch up and hook up to leave, aprt from that you leave the car in the car park. Seems OK over there and also eliminates the "speeders" on site!!

OK if you're in a MH maybe, but not so convenient for caravanners and another reason (for us) to keep our touring holidays home based!

Just to clarify my earlier post, once the caravan had been pitched by the warden cars could then be parked on the pitch in the usual way. Personally I wouldn't go to a site where cars had to be left in the car park. I keep too much gear in the car partially
because it is far more secure than the caravan and I don't always want it cluttering the caravan. I want it reasonably convenient.0 -

Am not denying it happens but in 45 continental trips I haven't acually seen it so dont let that be a reason to put you off...
It won't me ,i'm itching to go

We have stayed on a site in Holland where you had to put your car in the parking area. At first it seemed inconvenient, as we are used to having the car right next to the van, but the upside was that the site was brilliant for children, we had three 6 and
under with us, as it was much safer. With units pitched along two opposing hedges the large area in the middle was free and very easy to supervise as you had a clear view the length of the pitching area.0 -
I thought that this topic had been put to bed. Jill with a Jay had an email from the club which she has quoted a number of times which said that, with the exception of Sandrigham, you could pitch either nose in or out. She suggested having a hard copy of
this to show to wardens who insisted otherwise.Exactly so! Provided of course you go car / caravan / awning (as per the instructions given to you by the warden staff) then you can go whichever way round you like.
Indeed, the location of your caravan door may determine which way round you go (if you wish to have the awning on the door side).

Provided of course you go car / caravan / awning . . . then you can go whichever way round you like.
No quite. When reversing the caravan and awning position it has to still remain within the same footprint on the ground - I call it the "Habitation Rectangle". It is defined really by the six meters from the adjacent habitation rectangles. So car has to
stay put as it is not within the habitation rectangle.0 -

I certainly would not say it happens on "many" sites over there, we have noticed on on some sites in Holland, and would never use such a site.
I have all my tools, cameras, computer stuff etc in the car, plus site books, map books, outside furniture, etc etc, no way do i want to be forever trailing to and from the car.

I thought, like Michael, that having all those nasty cars out of the way, in a car park would keep noise down, reduce speeding to nil, give all vanners the space on a pitch that those without cars and barrels etc enjoy and generally make life for all on
the site a lot saferforever going to and fro to the car for book, a map, a camera or whatever...seems really inconvenient...
i wondered why you wouldnt keep these small, oft used items inside the van where they can be readily available?
it cant be lack of storage, as you have a large caravan?
re cameras, is there a (poor) security issue with keeping stuff in a caravan?
Write your comments here... Obviously the thoughts of a motorhomer who wouldn't have the inconvenience of having to walk to the car park in all weathers, sometimes a considerable distance to either go off site in the car or just retrieve something from it.
A situation made much worse for those less able to walk without some difficulty. Is this being selfish ?0 -
I dont understand the argument, you turn up, pitch your van, empty itmes you travel with in the car, move car to car park, sit back enjoy the holiday. Like BB I dont understand why you would have to go back and forth to the car, just store stuff in the van.
As I said we have been on quite a few sites like this and it does make the site better for all as there are no cars coming in/out (except to arrive or depart or MH's) the site is tidier, you have the whole pitch to use withouthalf being taken up by the car.

Yes JM20, it's a very selfish attitude, seems like a knee jerk reaction to try and 'cast aspersions' whenever possible..... towards caravanners Luckily I'm quite able, but there must be many not so and it would be shameful attacking a caravanner for that reason.
Then there is the speeding of M/homes

Write your comments here...Is that because many motorhomers have to stay on site because they have no alternative transport and / or no public transport available and are jealous of those that have the freedom drive off-site, ie caravanners?

Write your comments here...No this was when we had a caravan before June this year so no jealousy, and going forward we would either only be staying a day or so due to the way we use a MH or if staying on site for longer ensure we had enough provisions (or
shop on site) to avoid the need to go out and for sight seeing do that on the inward or outward journey for the site, then just sit back and relax on site.0 -
Mmmm... How many times on CT have we seen MHers up in arms against what they perceive as a biased and intolerant attitude towards them from vanners.
And yet here we have exactly an example of that in the opposite direction
For heaven's sake does it matter if you're a vanner or a MHer? Does it make one jot of difference that a towcar is parked by a van in the same way that many MHers park a small car by their MH? When we're on site it scarcely registers what sort of unit is
parked up next to us.If you're really that intolerant of what others do I'd suggest finding a different way to spend your leisure time!

Write your comments here...not sure who you are getting at M I only pointed oput that on several sites we have been on over there they operate differently where you have to park in the car park if you have a caravan. Its the rules so you either obey or go elsewhere just like the 12:00 arrival/departure etc. no warders discretion apart from disability. It did not bother us but obviously some people are tied to the car being next to them like an umbilical cord.....
