We tend to only tour low season, but often this does include the May BHs, and of course every week has a weekend.

The difference in the number of people on site, particularly children, is obvious from the amount of traffic on the site roads, and yes, children on bikes are everywhere.

Sometimes just 2 or 3 together, but more often, especially in the evenings, they congregate in large groups and race each other round the site.  Any idea of limiting speed or only going in the "correct" direction goes out of the window as they egg each
other on.  Often there are even under 5s racing around.  Pedestrians are ignored.

If they are watching, the parents must be aware of what their children are up to, so either they are silently condoning it, or not bothering what the children are up to.

(what happened there? text went huge!)

Proberly not bothered what their kids are up to.proberley sitting in the awning drinking.

I thank my lucky stars I have these negs nowhere near me in my life, I think I can spot them easily, I listen for the rallying call of "kids these days, parents just drinking, they just can't be bothered, my car cost me, unsupervised kids, they don't care"
what a hoot. You old folks carry on digging your hole to your own misery-I love itLaughingLaughing

Oh dear , I think I must have had irresponsible parentsSad, as when i was young and camped with my mum and dad I used to cycle round the sites
,and if we went to the beach I used to go down to the sea and get a bucket of sea water on my own ,and then find my way back to my parents who were sitting on the beach , I always thought that they were giving me some freedom ,but I now know by reading CT
that there were just being irresponsible Sad, think it's time I had a word with themUndecided

My grandchildren spent their holiday yesterday paint balling and practising archery. If the Club were to bring activities like that on to Club sites the bike problem might go away.

Both activities are good fun and both will have been carried out in a safe environment and under very controlled conditions (I hope).  Underlying that they, hopefully, understood that safety was paramount and to act responsibly.

If similar conditions were available onsite I would also get involved with the archery, but I doubt it will ever become available.

Who's going to pay for all the equipment in the first instance? Surely the majority of members don't want to cough up for a set of facilities that they are never going to use. To recoup the cost the club would have to charge those taking part a very high
price, which would then restrict those likely to use the facility.

Yell Why have a pop at me I'm not advocating it should happen just agreeing that archery is good fun and that if it was available I would have
    a go.

I wasn't having a pop at you, DD, just pointing out aeason why the CC don't have Archery on site. However if you do want to "have a go" there's an archery club who'll let you do just that within walking distant of Wrekin View CL.

.....  Sadly some get it very wrong and just don't seem to care, then when it goes pear shaped
    they won't accept responsibility.

and I thought the Dad in this case had already offered to pay for the damage

    Back to the OP.

I have been to Merroese Farm quite a few times.  As you come down the hill and through the gate, you are directed by arrows into the arrivals area.  If you are concentrating on getting to the arrival area, you will be unaware that there is a hill on your
left and I have witnessed a child coming fast on a bike down that hill just as someone was coming through the gate.  At the time, I was in the queue for the chippy and saw the situation arising. The child, (toddler really),was concentrating on getting to his
mum in the queue.  The driver was just coming down the hill off site and coming through the gate.  I ran out in front of the vehicle and shouted for him to stop.  The child zipped behind me to his mum in the chippy queue and an accident was averted.  The mother
was quite shocked and told the child off.  To be honest, the child did not see any danger and probably would do the same again a few days later.

Going back to the OP, I've just had my car damaged by an 8 year old riding his bike the wrong way down the on site one way system. I understand that children need to play but my car door has a scratch down it which will most probably cost around. £1000 to
put right. I think parents should ensure their children are abiding by the rules but I also think wardens should police the rules closer.

The cc could start issuing warnings like they do if you don't give the 72 hours notice before cancelling. This doesn't just apply to children breaking rules but also for adults breaking rules (Or animals/pets, visitors). We have rules in place to allow everyone
to enjoy the cc and to maintain safety and standards.

This is not the car damage thread and my comment has nothing to do with that, it applies ONLY to HD's post. You are way off base MM.

    I'd lost track ......

We've just come back from Incleboro Fields - huge site with a lot of road. One night I was out walking the dog and it was just dark and kids were still riding their bikes without lights and not going with the flow of traffic.

    Sorry I blame the parents!

would you expect little kids to go all the way round the site back to the main gate? This is the same site that I had someone inches from my rear bumper while driving to our pitch on the far side of the site presumably as I was driving at/around the 5mph
    limit.

Little kids should be supervised anyway and wouldn't need to walk back on their own!

We could indeed ..... all those that consider letting kids play are being failed by their lazy, feckless parents while they get piddled in their awnings will harp on at every occassion

Hopefully IMO cycles and children will remain a feature of CC sites, the real issue is the kids need to know there are some basic ground rules. That
aspect I sense even with my own grandchildren is not these days the "in" thing. We have in another context been politely criticised for trying to guide our grandson with what we thought sensible rules of behaviour, apparently subduing his natural expression
    of freedom.

Could be DD. A proper repair done to manufacturer spec does not come cheap.

As I said earlier, to repair my keyed car down one side was £4K some years ago. Obviously a mate with a spray gun is cheaper but unless done to manufacturers spec the warranty is worthless

My guess was based on a local body shop that has been there for years and has more work really than he can cope with and has no need to advertise ..... somewhat more than a mate with a spray gun

Of course but I am sure you realise that a repair to manufacturers official repair standards in order to maintain warranty on a newish car is a different kettle of fysh
