Cycles on site

....
Let me get this right MM, you stop your car and a child or adult crashes into your car or caravan causing damage to either and you just shrug your shoulders and say "never mind we are all on holiday and it doesn't matter!"
Bicycles can cause serious damage to metalwork and cost money to repair. I don't understand your logic!
The OP was talking about kids ... not adults. I'd prefer a dented wing/door than to have run over a kid on its bike, they're a lot easier to fix. If you don't want to be within a mile of kids on cycles, then use adult only sites. You're coming across like
the old bloke that lived across the road from me, he moved to an open plan estate & then continually moaned about kids that played in the street because their ball MIGHT hit his car or damage plants in his garden.0 -
.....
Any one- way system signs should be observed by all vehicles and cycles. ...Can you honestly say that if you were at the start of a one way system and to leave the site you had the option of cycling all the way round the site or cycling a few feet the wrong way, that you would go the long way round?
They could get off and push.
By your condoning of rule breaking at the expense of the motorist is irresponsible.
Kids have very little sense of responsibility even less sense of danger when in a group so I do agree it is up to the motorist to be aware but not at the expense of such flippant remarks

Not sure where I condoned it ....... I see cyclists jumping red lights & going the wrong way on one way street, but don't condone it. In the real world, cyclists, be they kids or adults, will go the easiest way to the main gate, whether that's the right
way or the wrong way0 -
....
43' sounds an awfully big number for what is really a fairly common "large estate and t/a van" type outfit.... ....
Almost, but when was the last time you saw a R Class on the road?
not that often....not really a raging success for Merc...i think ive seen the other one.....
its just that there are many towcar and caravan outfits that are 43' long, but when described as 'large car towing a 7m van'....it doesn't have the same 'grandiose' ring to it....
I think you'll find that the other R Class lives somewhere near me. My reference to the size of mine (ooer!) was due to the OP going on about how big their's was at a mere 30' while
trying to avoid a junior Tour de France0 -
what do you expect of these 'irresponcible parents'? That they velco their kids to their sides?
A little supervision would be a good start.....
One of the reasons we don't caravan in school holidays.
Write your comments here...me neither, even at 5 mph if a child rides into you head on at 5 mph , the child will end up injured, then see the furore.Adults only or wait untill the end of the school holidays, its cheaper on sites then too. I know the hill the OP is talking about, stayed at Merrose a few times, bet the cyclists were doing more than 5mph.And yes, i was a child too and had a bike, several over the years. But if I was told.....Dont do it here....i didnt, my Dad made sure i didnt. I might not have liked it, but he may be the reason i survived childhood.

I'm surprised parents take children to typical Club sites - because those sites aren't family friendly, and by the sound of things a lot of the older Club members aren't family friendly either.

what do you expect of these 'irresponcible parents'? That they velco their kids to their sides?
That they have adequate all risks insurance in place to indemnify others for the damage their children cause to the property of others would be a good start if they are not to be supervised.

How many times have you ever had errant kids damage your car or caravan. The percieved problem of kids on caravan site is mainly in your heads

The worry (by me anyway) is the kids safety, Sites are safer compared to cycling in the street, but there are still cars and cars plus caravans, driving around looking for pitches, probably very tired, stressed hopefully only doing 5mph ! SO, not that safe.
As long as the child has traffic awarness, then there shouldnt be a problem. Should there ?0 -
No hard facts then .... just one person's opinion? And as a cycle doesn't have a standard fit speedo, would the cyclist know he/she was speeding if he/she was?
Logically if he or she speeds past a pedestrian the speed is above walking pace.
Where were the pedestrians? The OP made no mention of any .... just the cyclist! You're making it up as you go along ......

what do you expect of these 'irresponcible parents'? That they velco their kids to their sides?
of course not, but what's of concern is how small some of the youngsters are who are riding around unsupervised. Have seen some who looked under five, and smaller children are not so visible simply because they are small

Five actually - three times with balls and twice with bikes. And parents who deny all liability.

Which puts the onus on you to do your best to avoid them ..... I must say that I've yet to come across these hordes of would be Eddie Merckx

MM, I think everyone that rides a bike knows that they are travelling fast! As for your comment about you would rather have your car damaged than injuring a child! Well the mind boggles, of course all of us do not want to see any child injured, what the
OP was I think trying to get across is that with a bit of common sense the situation could be avoided.Again, I don't see your logic when you say that children should basically be let loose to do what they want, because they are on holiday!

You're exagerating everything I've said. You've come across as the stereo typical misearable bu66er that posts every negative comment possible. I didn't actually say I'd want my car damaged, but if it had to be that or run a kid over, then the car is easiest
to repair. And kids will go and play .... that's not running loose.0
