Good dog walk on club sites or in close proximity

Having seen the question of good dog walks on or off sites raised in various threads, would it not be a good idea to share your knowledge of good dog walks with other members? It may also be good to point out the not so good dog walks. That way all the information is confined to one focal point. If this thread is a success then perhaps a mod could make it a sticky

    I'll start the ball rolling by naming two....

    Hawes.... very good on site dog walk.

    Cirencester Park.... Good on site dog walk, excellent offsite dog walk, turn left out of the gate and walk through  Bathurst Estate to town...Cool

    If you are in scotland, Braemar and Grantown on Spey are both excellent sites for dog walking.

    +1 for Hawes.  It must be the biggest and best we have come accross.  Plymouth Sound is similar with a large grassy field but not as big as Hawes.

    Although our Community Manager has asked that all posts relating to caravanning with dogs be made in the one thread

    here    , this separate thread may prove useful.

    I'll consult with Rochelle regarding whether she feels it okay to monitor it for the time being to see how it goes and then, if successful, we can add a link in the IMPORTANT INFORMATION thead.

    Thank you Jillwithajay, I did think of starting the thread in the dog section, but felt that it followed on from the "caravanning  with dogs" thread. Wherever it is put, let's hope it proves useful...Cool

    There is an interesting one at Normanhurst Court "Battle", its a mile and a quarter long, leads to a small village called Catsfield and you can have a pint in the local beside the path whist cntimplating the walk back..

    Penine view at Kirby Steven. Excellent river walk and disused railway which is now a very nice footpath / bridleway both accesible direct from sit.

    I can't think of any CC site in Scotland where there is not the opportunity to enjoy a good walk with a dog off - site. 

    So if decent walking with your dog is your hobby, come to any site in Scotland

    As far as On-Site walks are concerned. Walking around the site roads is not enough exercise for a dog, or for that matter a human. 

    Always best to enjoy what the area outside the site has to offer by walking with your dog.

    Treamble Valley, nice hillside area. Coniston (in the woods.) Borrowdale, adjacent lovely footpaths and lakeside inlets. Black Knowl adjacent miles of woodland walking. Brecon dog walk, nice woods and stream and even a second smaller dog walk!

    Also Englethwaite with a couple of perimeter walks through woods and alongside a secluded pool.

    Incleboro Fields has a field to the left of the entrance where you can walk off lead and a short walk onto Incleboro Hill where you can walk into Cromer. The other way you walk along the cliffs to Sheringham.

    Chatsworth is good although not off lead in the park due to sheep.

    Also Englethwaite with a couple of perimeter walks through woods and alongside a secluded pool.

    If you take the path alongside the pond, follow it all the way to the end.  Then turn right and walk along the track until you get to the road (very quiet) turn left, then follow the road up to the pub at Cotehill (Greyhound Inn) which is dog friendly and
    serves a lovely Sunday roast Smile

    Troutbeck Head has a good walk from the top end of the site via the site dog walk, which leads into Matterdale Forest.

    Garlieston is another favourite of ours.  Follow the coastal path (straight from the site) to Rigg Bay, Galloway House gardens ... and beyond Wink

    Freshwater East, out of the site, over the road and straight on to a beach that doesn't have a dog ban.Smile

    Clumber Park and Ferry Meadows  miles of walks from outside the site gates,also Commons Wood has a good off site walk through the woods (may be Deer around

    Chatsworth is good although not off lead in the park due to sheep.

    We took our dogs on the dog walk at Chatsworth and the sappy pine residue stuck to feet and fur causing them to excessively lick and make sores.  As soon as we noticed we took them on their leads into the park instead of on the dog walk but this meant they were not able to free run at all so it wouldnt be a site we would return to with dogs of choice.

    Poolsbrook is good for dog walks directly off site, as is Carsington.

    Ferry Meadows is a fantastic site for walks with or without dog.

    No walk on site but you have the whole of the Nene Valley Country Park.

    Moreton in Marsh has a decent size dog field.

    Broadway, also in the Cotswolds, is not very good for dogs. There is a very small area on site that gets quite muddy in rain.

    Bridlington has a good dog field and there is good walking from  Sewerby along the coast path.

    Chatsworth Site is in Chatsworth Park so plenty of walks there.

    The worst on site dog walk we have ever found was at Castleton.  A scrubby path next to a busy road. There are walks from the site, but the advertised 'dog walk'  is awful!

    Thanks for your input K, but let us not form the blinkered view that everybody is able bodied. Some members have great difficulties walking and can only manage to make the dog walk to let "fido" off for a run, so a description of on site dog walks may greatly
    help these members make a choice of site. No criticism intended....Cool

    Sorry I've had to answer your replies en bloc, but haven't had the time till now to properly reply, I did like you all earlier in a quick visit.

    Keep the suggestions coming in please folks, they will be a great benefit to lots, i'm sure.
