Site fees

It looks a very nice site, judging by its website ( although we've been fooled before by a good looking website for a site in that part of the country). But for us, 2 adults, 2 dogs and a porch awning, £27.50 now and £33.50 in peak is more than we'd consider
reasonable.0 -
I agree that increasing prices during peak periods is the way to off-set costs.......because people will simply pay it.
Increasing prices during off-peak will just cause people to go elsewhere......so the effect on income will be negative.
Funny that.....it's exactly what the commercials do!
I wonder if that thought will ever reach the upper floors of Grimstead Towers?

Anybody wanting to see how a well run campsite arranges spotless accommodation and toilet block cleaning, should pay a visit to the privately owned Min y Don Caravan Site affiliated to the CC at Harlech.
Prices are very reasonable during the year----( at the moment £23.00 for the van and two adults)
At peak time, there is a standard all inclusive pitch charge for the van and two adults. .
When we were there a few years ago the site was absolutely immaculate.
K
We were there as part of a tour last year, Site fine.

Incidentally, site fees appear to automatically increase by 25% during bank holiday weeks.
A bit like the price of fuel on the forecourt, and that is generally perceived as a rip off.Unfortunately this applies to almost all types of holiday, be it caravaning or hotel. The CC however put their prices up far less than a lot of commercial sites. The only way to register disapproval is to not use them at those times. However, given the difficulty
of getting in many of them during these periods, I think they are generally oversubscribed. Can't say I have noticed fuel going up at bank holidays though, not at the supermarkets anyway.Write your comments here...I work for a supermarket petrol station and prices do always go up in the summer months.

as rare as all those who are making sites quite full in June, have a look at Melrose, only a few one night stands left

Tintent 115 -Totally agree with you The test will come when 2017 prices are made known
At least next year we get a handbook instead of having to hunt for this years prices on the website.
But will the prices be corrct? The published list of this year's prices weren't in a few cases, so who'e to say that the prices in the new Site Directory won't be wrong in a number of cases?

ET you must be one of the rare 'pay whatever they want to charge' types. Many of us are not.
I pay because I like the product

Once fees go north of £20 regardless of the time of year, I'll look elsewhere.

We do not pay whatever the cost, but we like the sites, we know what we are getting and can afford the fees. Why should we risk the others some of which would be wrong for us.
The occupancy levels of most sites tends to show that others feel the same.

Agree 100%.
( Although we are "risking" a private site on our way back from Anglesey in July - got to have some excitement to keep us on our toes!)

When we joined the CC on purchasing our caravan changing from 9 years of MH ownership, last year, I collated information to make the decision if we continue with CC membership after year 1 that is up in July.
I know how many miles the caravan has been towed, by which vehicle, the length of each journey and the number of nights on each site, what type of site, the facilities available and the cost per night.
Currently we have stayed as many nights on commercial sites as CC including CL. By end of the first years ownership we will have stayed at the crown jewel, Chatsworth House on a fully serviced pitch at £40/night in school summer holiday.
CL HS has been the lowest fee at £14/night. Hortham Farm CL
Commercial part serviced HS EHU and grey waste at £21/night in school summer holidays. Near to Alton Towers.
Commercial fully serviced pitch off peak at £18/night including sports leisure and social activities. Christmas was £23/night on same pitch. Overlooking the Needles in Hampshire. The 2 CC sites in the area were not open.
Commercial fully serviced pitch with sports leisure and social activities in school summer holidays at Watergate Bay £31/night.
Exeter Racecourse CC was £29/night in school summer holidays for a grass non awning pitch.
Trewethett Farm CC site awning grass pitch was £33/night in shool summer holidays.
Longleat CC for a rally was £15/night on a non awning HS pitch, in December.
Easter at Cheddar CC site on non awning HS was £34/night.
Ruda in the Burrows at Easter on a grass awning pitch was £28/night including sports and leisure facilities.
Late May BH at Bladon Chains CC on grass awning pitch was £26.5/night.
Not factored in the CC membership cost per night, as that will vary depending on how many nights we can do. This first year we were inhibited by the delay of 4 months for a tow bar for the car.
In summary with the CC you pay more in fees for less facilities regardless of season. The availability of fully serviced pitches at CC sites is much less than at commercial sites. This is a major decision point for us particularly off season in the winter,
as is the lack of CC sites open in the winter near to us for weekends away. All of the sites have delivered what we required, had no complaints from us and had a range of modernity of washblocks equally.Unless Chatsworth puts us off, we'll renew our CC membership. Having access to CC and commercial sites will give us opportunity to enjoy our caravanning.
We are a family of Mum, Dad and Daughter age 9.

Fully servced pitches are becoming almost 'the norm' on a lot of commercial sites. And they are still far cheaper than CC sites.
The CC (and in this respect, the C&CC) are just not moving with the times.
Cleaning the toilets to an immaculate standard just once per day and cutting the grass to within an inch of its life and charging top-dollar is not what people now want.

"Risking" Did you look at the entry I think titled "Wardens in Hiding" about the CC site in South wales. Not all hunkey dory or nice people alway occupy CC Sites.
F'man - note the quote marks around the word "risking" and the smiley at the end of the sentence. It was meant light heartedly!
We're going to a private site which has been recommended by friends - we've been stung by good looking websites so often in the past that we now only go back to private sites we know are good or ones that are personally recommended.

I'm struggling to see how someone who has said that he never uses commercial sites and will always use CC sites whatever they chose to charge, because he thinks that the sun shines out of them, can seriously attempt to offer a viable opinion to this debate.

how rude, I've no idea who could that be, cerainly not me as I have used non club site. But really you should follow CT quidelines and respect other posters. It could be said that with your anti club bias you views cannot be viable, but I'm too polite and
respectful of others to say that0 -

Although this followed immediately after my post, Ian, I'm happy to give you the benefit of the doubt that you weren't referring to me, since (even) you must have seen that I'd said we were staying at a private site in July!

Of course not, M.......my comment was just general, but may have hit a raw nerve in some quarters......
Well it certainly didn't read as a general comment, and appeared to be directed at a specific individual. Naughty Naughty!!
