Still no input from Grimstead Towers clarifying the official policy on the points raised during this thread.

Once again, lots of speculation from forum members but complete silence from Grimstead.

...but if the rally booked after you did, the only way youd know this is to (regularly) ring the site, check the website (only any good if this is updated) or rely on a rally diary that, no doubt might be subject to change.

and what whould be the course of action if a rally had booked (generally out of season, anyway)....?

....would you cancel your break at short notice, and try and find somewhere else?

We only booked the site a few days before going there, as we were on our way home from our latest trip. A Rally will have booked the site well in advance of that, probably at the start of the year, and will have organised their rally programme well before
that, some time in the autumn of the previous year I would think. So there should be no problems  with the dates being added to the sites' web pages, as happens with race days on sites at Race Courses.

Had we known it was on we would not have booked the site and gone to a CL instead.

PS we don't do short breaksWink

...On race course site the dates of race days are normally advised the previose year, when are "rally dates worked out

Very often rally's don't have the right to use site facilties.  Toilets, showers etc.  This denies us the right to moan about toilet opening times.  Just another one of the popular occupations of curtain twitching brigade.

...Maybe its ralliers who are the ones who when we go to the showers are outside,  saying they have left their key or forgotten the code Surprised

i still cant understand the mentality of someone thinking that when they go on a site that it should be nearly empty, whatever time of the year

tommo, like the OP, if you have been members for a very long time, you get to know within reason just how busy or otherwise certain sites will be at certain times of the year. This gives those of us who like a quiet site (Meathop early in year usually) a
chance to use quiet and reasonable priced Club Sites, before they become much more busy and a lot pricier to visit. I don't think any of us who enjoy quiet Club Sites want a site to ourselves, but being forewarned that somewhere normally quiet, will be a lot
busier than expected, would be a bonus, and allow us to go elsewhere. I think that is all that the OP and others are suggesting. Happy

10 pages of waffle, but really the only first 2 posts have any relevance.

The original poster thinks that his £15 a night or whatever he paid should guarantee him exclusive access.  The second post agrees but really objects to, too much towing and froing between the vans.   Obviously breaking his curfew.

Proof positive that it's all gone to hell in a hand cart.

Boff, I don't think either Nellie or I have implied that we don't like ralliers on sites, it is just the unexpected numbers on site at what is normally a very quiet time on a relatively quiet site. Being in the middle of lots of other people enjoying themselves
isnt a crime either, but I for one would prefer to go somewhere quieter, and posting rally bookings would give me that opportunity. I am pleased for the Club if they are getting income and quite happy to stay elsewhere. I have only experienced being in the
midst or close to rallies a couple of times. The first time was difficult, as we were amongst a lot of people who were constantly going to and fro, watching each other erect folding caravans and  just generally enjoying themselves. The problem was ours, not
theirs, as we had three dogs with us who we just couldn't settle. The second rally was adjacent to a CS we were on, and no problem whatsoever. 30 plus caravans and we never heard a thing. But we had a lot of space and CS to ourselves, separate rally field!
But forewarned makes things easier, that is all.

    Hi all,

Previous derogatory posts on this thread have been removed in order for this thread to remain on topic.

With regards to the topic at hand, I can advise that rally bookings are on The Club website for members to see, under the Centre Rallies section, and indeed the rally at Meathop Fell was on this list. Any member can join a Centre and enjoy the same benefits if attending a Centre Rally.

I understand you were expecting a quiet site, however, whether it be a rally or touring outfit, the pitches on site are there to be booked. We only allow rallies to take place when we know from past experience that sites are not fully occupied.

Rallies and the fees charged are set and agreed with our Committees’ which are reviewed each year.

I hope this has answered your questions!

Not really......I believe the question was - do Rally-goers pay less than the other members on the site?

Can anyone who understands the different types of rallys and how to find one on a Club site, find one on the search facility and answer the question?

It seems that the Club themselves cannot......

I don't think the OPs question related to how much ralliers pay on a Club Site. It was more a polite request for details of any rallies booked to be placed on the appropriate Club Site Webpage, as is done with Race meetings, on the Racecourse Sites. As such,
the OPs question hasn't been answered. A long winded look here, search there option has been provided, and it helps. A little bit.

Pecisely. I wonder how many, who do not wish to be on a club site when a rally is present, have bothered to search through all the centre web sites to see if there happens to be a rally on one of the sites they hope to visit? Very few, if any, I suspect.
All I asked was why couldn't notifications of rallies be posted on the participating sites. Not answered satisfactorily, IMO. I too wonder how long before the rally dates does a Centre book the specific site, as I'm sure it is not just a few weeks.

It was not I that raised the issue concerning the pricing of rallies on club sites, either.

Is that less han the normal site cost?

I've not been on a rally and rarely use club or commercial sites so am wondering what is the difference between a site being heavily booked with rallyers as opposed to 'normal' visitors?

A week there would have cost a couple £110:70, by my reckoning, so a saving of £11:12 or £1:59 per night.

It has actually been a very interesting thread this one, and has highlighted something I hadn't considered, so thanks for that Nellie. As I have said, from a purely personal point of view, we will be happy to check with Club Sites prior to arriving, just
in case things are likely to be a lot busier than we anticipate, and we will happily move on if it is.

We do camp/meet up with friends with shared interests, for example, an annual off road club, but this is a private affair, can be a proper mud fest and the roar of hundreds of Jeeps wallowing through gulleys
would not be welcome to others! So while we value space and quiet on Club Sites, we are not totally antisocial!Happy

Dave, with respect, you're missing the point. The original comment was about Meathorp Fell in March. I can quite understand anyone expecting it to be very quiet at that time of year.

Reading through this actually gave me a nasty taste in my mouth at times ! Heaven help us all, are we all equal members of this club or is there a subspecies to be avoided at all costs according to some ? I have been on Club Sites where absolutely no-one
has spoken to us and it felt really unnatural, why go somewhere that has plenty of pitches if you don't wish to talk to anyone, even your neighbour. It really does take all sorts doesn't it. I know, I've heard all the arguments - I only use Club Sites as a
base and I am out all day etc etc., but to be so antisocial as to wish to dictate who else can book a pitch with you...!!! It really does beggar belief IMHO. In all honesty it sounds as if more than a few just resent the thought that a group booking might
get a DISCOUNT !!! Heaven forbid ! Quite a few Club Sites actually have rally fields, so there is nothing to stop them taking rallies and it is more income so why not? If they are actually using pitches on the main sites I think you will find they are restricted
in when they can, full paying members definitely get preference....so there ! If there is any discrimination it is not in ralliers favour.

is Meathop usually full, in the months of February and March? My research, views of friends, general understanding of how Club Sites work, and that good old standby, checking the bookings calendar would indicate that, no, generally Meathop isn't full. What
I and the OP asked for, was some indication of if there was a group booking expected in a quiet time, so that we could go elsewhere, somewhere quieter, just our preference. The Club allow Rallies on the Club Sites at quieter times, a good idea, maximise income,
blah, blah. It would just be good communication for members to let them know, on the site web page, rather than buried within the Centre news and rally section. Same way I know that it can be busy on Racecourse sites on a Race Day! Not a moan, just a polite
    request.

    Exactly, Alison. My thoughts too.

I  only drop in to CT when I feel the need to top up my schadenfreude levels and count my blessings that my life is so stress free.

Little wonder that so few members post on here.

Mind you, at least when the grumpy ones go away in their caravans their long-suffering neighbours get a break ;-)
