Excessive site charges

Here is an actual comparisson - not hypothetical what would peak summer prices be etc.
3day break Lady Margaret CC 22/2/16.Total cost 1 unit plus 2 adults £45-90. 8/3/16, 3 day break same outfit Morris Leisure,Llanberis £47-00.
Can't comment on either site since we haven't been to them, but I can comment on the comparison of price which is very selective given that on the dates mentioned Morris are offering 3 nights for the price of 2. So here's another (equally selective!) comparison.
In July, 2 adults + 2 dogs, HS pitch. Lady Margaret £74.70 for 3 nights, Morris Llanberis £100.50 for 3 nights.
As I've said before on this thread, you can always find examples to back up any claim. The answer is to do a bit of research and find the best deals whenever and wherever you want to go!

What I am really getting at is -Does the club not want the extra income from those of us who are willing to go off peak. Frommy experience there are a lot of people who caravan all rar round. The club seems stuck in some time warp. Late opening in the year, unwilling
to make offers to attract us at those slack times. Times have changed. Comparing peak time costs doesnt answer that question.0 -
I get your point Fisherman. I'm not sure if some CC site dates are restricted by local rules, for example, I can never work out why Cirencester Park near us is not open all year, while Broadway and Moreton in Marsh are.
I do think the club could attract more folk with "late booking" discounts but I'd hate to see the day where they offered special deals off peak at the expense of Sky High prices in school holidays ( not that we use them at that time anyway).

OK- Allowing for the inferiority of Lady Margaret Site, its poor usage week days If you offered a Mid week discount the price would be say £12-50 per night. Outfit + 2 Adults. Even then I would probably use the local Cls. On a wider basis the £14 basic CC
sites are also overpriced. Sorry to upset peple but we no longer follow the herd and slavishly think the CC is magnificent. The internet allows us to compare and contrast and sadly the club is losing out.0 -
"" I can never work out why Cirencester Park near us is not open all year, while Broadway and Moreton in Marsh are.""
Have to agree with you on that moulesy, considering that over half the pitches are hardstanding, I cant see a problem with all year opening, Perhaps I'm biased, as its only 40mins away from us ...

Write your comments here...I would agree on this ,ideal site for us only1 hour away and easy to walk into town. I think the club maybe missing a trick here unless there are planning issues.

Horses for courses Fisherman. It's all down to personal choice and whatever makes you happy..

You could well be right JVB, whatever the reason, it is a shame, as I think it would be a very popular site in the winter, with Cirencester in easy walking distance, hope it doesnt go the same way as Broadway, Minehead, Cadeside and any other that we are unaware of at the moment..

I use club sites in peak periods with the family because they are cheaper.
I use all sorts of sites. I like the Club's booking system and I like the fact that I don't have to do much research as they are all the same but that's about it.

I think Cirencester is Leased whereas Broadway and Moreton? are owned so could be the lease
I would find it very strange (if Cirencester is leased) if the landowner would place restrictions on their tenant's use of the land. All that would do is to reduce the value of the lease (the amount the tenant is prepared to pay).
More likely is that the opening dates are what they are "because that's what we've always done".......in the sleepy, old fashioned way of the CC.
They could also increase usage of Cirencester if they made all the pitches full size......instead of little strips of hardstanding that don't fit a car and caravan side by side.

Late booking discounts would not suit the likes of us who book a number of sites to make up a decent length of trip, whereas midweek discounts are included in these plans. Can't please all the people all of the time, I suppose.

Cirencester could be leased from the Bathurst Estate, who may put restrictions on opening periods.

I did think that H&T, but then dismissed it as I believe that the estate lets you walk in the grounds all year..

Moulesy, Earlier on you made fleeting reference to the fact that schools were relaxing their policy regarding taking children out of schools for holidays in school time.
I have always been diametrically opposed to the crack down anyway. I worked for an organisation that only allowed for a small proportion of its workforce to be absent on leave at any one time. Leave was chosen within ranks on a seniority basis i.e. the longest
in service got the first choice etc. So by the time it got around to me, all the prime Hoiday spots were gone. So I always took my three children out of School in term time - usually the first two weeks in September. Now many years later, My son who joined the RAF as NCO Aircrew, is a Squadron Leader, My eldest Daughter is a bank manager and my youngest daughter has her own business in the beauty therapy business. Can you explain please what dreadful damage I caused
them by taking them out of school?TF

I don't think the issue is your children at all, you clearly supported & encouraged them! However, too many parents, not all I stress, have low aspirations for their children, have a lack of respect for authority and those working in education and in the
system itself. Basically they care little for their children's learning in the formal settings offered to them. Some of this is a social issue, mind, just look at the areas of social deprivation, although low aspiration is not confined to the these areas,
there is a distinct link with academic attainment. For some parents its more about valuing education, including that experienced during that one off holiday, for others, they're not even that bothered if there children are even in school for most of the year.0 -
this time last year we went to a friend's wedding in North Wales. The special room rate at the venue was £225, check in was 3pm and check out 10.30 am. Not surprisingly we took the van instead.
I booked the nearest site I could to reduce taxi costs. At £25 per night I thought it a bit steep but it was where we needed to be and it was a serviced pitch. We got there to find that because the small number of touring pitches were sandwiched between
the storage compound and a row of statics you had to be pitched by the warden. Cars had to be parked some distance away. No views unless you count the back end of a static a view, facilities weren't great or especially clean but the single member of site staff
was lovely. When we settled up we were told that because it was a weekend we had to pay for two nights. That is what I call five star prices for a two star site.

On page 21 I stated an actual example. I dont expect everyone to agree. Reality is, the club has made their pricing excessive but quality is less than the industry norm now. The tea drinkers at Grimstead Towers need to get up to date and be realistic if
they want to retain income during non peak period. At the end of the day its the TOTAL ANNUAL income that really matters in the Balance Sheet. The costs will be nearly the same if the site has 9 units or 90 in residence.0 -
Anyway, back to excessive site fees!
Fisherman, as I pointed out, your example was a little selective, given that you chose a date just within Morris' 3 nights for 2 offer, and even then it worked out a little more expensive than the CC rates.
Ignoring for a moment the apparent difference in quality of the two sites, I guess the CC could come up with similar offers if (a) it whacked up its fees in school holidays by an even greater extent and/or (b) it brought loads of statics and lodges onto
its sites to raise extra revenue. But do folk really support those options? It seems to me the CC (and C&CC) offer an alternative - a reasonably affordable middle of the road option which suits the requirements of many, many folk.
We're touring Norfolk & Suffolk in April. By combining both club's sites with CLs and CSs we' all have the best part of three weeks for about £18 a night average. We've done a bit of research and have found good sites in the areas we want to visit all at
a reasonable cost. (And not a single "luxury" site amongst them!)0
