Excessive site charges

Sites charging very low rates in winter are usually either family run ones who will have little extra cost in opening or large full facility sites where there are lots of things they charge for and hope to recover that way. Club sites need to pay staff and
do not have the ability to charge for other things so have to charge more.It is no use comparing club site costs with continental ones but if compared with the average UK ones they are not that different. If you look at the Practical Caravan survey of sites in the North West of England mainly in the Lake District they compare
quite favourably. You cannot pick out odd sites that undercut or cost more than club sites but look at tbe overall picture. The fact is that in most areas club sites are near average for charging but of a standard you want.If they were too expensive why can you not get in them?

Wildwood, Sorry but I think you are missing the point. In the case I am speaking of ,Yes it is a family run concern with about 15 pitches. It is adults only, and there are NO extras!
Even if I were prepared to pay the additional £6 per night for the nearby CC club site it isn't open yet for another 4 weeks!
You can go on defending the CC policy for as long as you like, but I fear that they are going to lose out in the long run - and that is the last thing that I want. Remember the Captain of the Titanic refused to see the danger of Icebergs ahead. I need not
remind you about how that worked out for him and his passengers!0 -
Just checked the cost per night at the site we store our van. It is a family run site. The cost for a family one child 11 and one 14 plus a dog is £34.50 per night. This is for a pitch equivalent to a CC pitch. If you want a service pitch then that's another
£6.60. And peak season the price would be £46.70 per night. As far as I know it is normally full.Just a bit of real world perspective.
That's one of the reasons I rally

It is to be hoped the smaller private sites and CL's are charging enough to cover their costs and return a reasonable profit. Otherwise, given several threads on here mourning the loss of CL's from the network, the owners may in a few years decide it is
not worth the hassle.0 -

very wise words, +1. Club sites are 'middle of the road' in terms of price and most times cheaper than the surrounding non club sites. And of course the quality is always (the important bit
is always) very good. I don't fear for the club at all, it's prices over the years have always been competitive. Prices do go up but as long as the club keeps it's quality and prices itself around the average it will be fine. Why should it lower its
prices or do otherwise? The proof of the pudding is in the eating, or in our case, as you say WW, how diificlut it is to get a pitch? Once again if you don't want to pay the club prices go elsewhere, but of course even though many
on here grumble about prices, the terrible booking system... they still keep coming back to club sites, wonder what club sites have that attracts so many?0 -
I sometimes wonder what happens to folk's common sense in threads like this. If you think a site ( any site) is too expensive/not good value then don't use it, find an alternative.
After all, if you were buying a new car/caravan/MH you'd do a bit of research wouldn't you? Look at various alternatives and choose the one you think is right for you/best value. You wouldn't come on here complaining that a different one was a couple of thousand pounds cheaper and it's just not fair that you've had to pay more.
Nothing is achieved by complaining on here; just do a bit of research and choose what's best for you! Nobody's forcing you to use CC sites - there are plenty of alternatives out there if they don't suit you.

Exactly what we are doing, Moulesy.
We've just booked two one-week stays at non-CC sites and have not only saved a lot of money but we also got an extra large, full serviced pitch (of our choosing).
I see no harm in giving this feedback to the CC (via their forum) though.......otherwise, how are they to know this is happening?

Do they take any notice though, Ian? We've had threads like this for the last three years. We're also using more nonCC sites these days. But not necessarily because of price. In April we're touring Norfolk & Suffolk. By combining CC, C&CC (we get age discount)
and CL/CS sites we'll have three weeks away at an average of about £18 a night, very satisfactory as far as I'm concerned.0 -
Well, probably not, M......but at least we will have tried to save our Club......
I'm afraid that they are of the school of thought that thinks that the way to increase profits is to keep putting up prices......but it don't work like that and they'll probably find out the hard way.

I can remember paying £3.50 per night in the early 80s for a pitch on a CCC site, no EHU, no chemical disposal (as the poor old caravan had no toilet and had gas mantles). I remember moaning when it went up tp £4.00 per night, but we were happy!!!

Just booked Morris Leisure on 3 for 2 offer in magazine.Cheaper than a CC site and open earlier. Why cant the club make similar offers in the low season?
The club does have offers such as mid week discount. Also outside of the special offers the CC will generally work out cheaper, depending on your set up an party make up. We have stayed at two ML sites and they were very nice but if you have dogs, or an awning, there are extra charges. I am sure the CC could do the 3 for 2 if it adopted the same model, but then families that could not take advantage of them, might end up paying more.

Write your comments here...Sounds like they have changed their pricing structure as we used to use the Bridgnorth one every March but they became very exspensive, which was a shame as we liked it and only 35 miles away for 1st trip of the year.

We used Stanmore Hall a few times when we had a caravan - it was expensive but not prohibitive, adequate quality and where we wanted to be. When we got the RV it became stupidly expensive and very prescriptive about which pitch we could have even though
it would have easily fitted on the pitches we had had with the caravan, so we never used it and havent gone back to it since we got a caravan again. Sadly there are no civilised club sites in the area or we would use one of those when visiting friends and
rellies up there (used to live near there so go to visit people)0 -
Is it case that the CC cannot see the changes within the industry.Private sites open earlier to cater for us oldies (those who still have disposable income). They have attractive offers off season ( again us oldies van allthe year round- not tied to school
holidays). Haven £7 per night in April. Morris 3 for 2. Much better offers than the restricted Mid week offers. We take advantage of these- less income but the same fixed costs on those CC sites open.that we decline to use.
