Excessive site charges
After reading both last month and this months club magazine i am shocked at the prices charged for club sites Most around £30 per night. We very tour in the uk But use sites abroad Using both the Acsi Card and Camping checks the average cost per night for 2 people /dog and electric is about £13. per night (albe it in low season which is when we go) why are the club stes so expensive Bearing in mind we all pay a subscription of £49 to join the club.

Just looking at the East Coast from 11/4. Haven are offering Hardstanding pitch plusEHU at £8 per night for 2 people.Near CC club- West Ayton £19-90. Thats what you call excessive charging. We are now looking every time at alternatives and can see us use
very fewCC sites this year.1 -
Yes I agree some sites are excessive.
I always look for cl,s with good reports in the area,s my wife and I wish to visit. The club sites are usually very good and kept to a high standard, but you don't always get value for money.
I suppose all we can do is vote with our feet,to try and keep price's down.
If you don't like the price, shop around just like we do on the high street.

I've just done a quick check of my favorite site in the lakes and indeed it is £30 per night for a couple, but that was for peak season in August and includes any dogs and awnings. Two non club sites around it start at £37 plus £1.50 per dog and £3 per awning
and the other £34 then £2.45 per dog and £3.30 per awning. So I would say that club sites are in line with non club sites and I have always found them to be a cheaper. Factor into that the assured quality of club sites and to me they are very good value for money.
BUT - no one is forced to use them or join the club in the first place, so if you can find another site that is cheaper and suits your neeeds then go there.
Looking at how most of the service pitches (which are even more expensive) have already gone in peak times most people seem happy with the prices, as I am

As corners says, despite the price increases CC sites still represent good value for money. This is particularly true in the peak season when many commercial sites charge eye watering amounts. Personally I would not make too much of the membership fee, I think most of us save far more in discounts than the annual cost. At the end of the day it is a personal choice, there are plenty of other sites out there, you are free to choose.

Off peak they certainly arnt.Just see the comparisons I did on the same days (11/4/) We have just returned fromLady Margaret Site. The building is tired, showers have hardly any water flow. ( 4 showers in the mens block for 100+ pitches) The access road
is worse than a farm track. It would not stand comparison with most private sites. Where is the club income going to?0 -
But as you notice for the majority of members, who fill both clubs sites especially at peak times,it is the model that works in the uk,what happens "over there" is basicaly of no consequence or real interest to those who are happy with how things are "over here"

Only full at weekends in Peak Period. There were plenty of room at Lady Margaret this week.
...Its not time for most sites to fill yet at peak only the "honey pots"Hillhead (the highest priced on the network) will not have space in the peak in a couple of months

I am not a member of ccc but is their priceing in the winter much better value than the cc ,whereas some independent will possibly not have the add costs of a head office to keep going, and haven etc are also running other things on their sites to help subsidise their"offers" which will save the expense of closing and re opening their holiday camps, and as we know they get back and more with their peak prices

I am not surprised its popular it looks from the website like a "proper" campsite with the sort of facilities it should have but it looks totally removed from the usual club formula of soulless rows of vans.
...I was just useing that as an example as people say the club is too expensive,,try getting into the majority of either clubs site in the uk in the peak without booking and as is said on here sooo many times, its difficult

I am not sure why some find it hard to understand that there are a lot of people who like a high quality site, without the additions of pools, bars, clubs and entertainment, and are prepared to pay for it. If the club went down the route of making all their
sites like Hillhead, we would be taking our business elsewhere.0 -
I agree that the CC sites are getting more expensive but we use them and will continue to use them for many reasons. Being retired for a few years, we now have the time and can afford to go away when we want and for as long as we want, We have the choice
of anywhere in the country whenever we want and enjoy it in our lovely new caravan. We often say what would we do now for our holiday if we did not have the caravan. We would no doubt go on a cruise or a package tour or a european bus tour, but look at the
cost of these options (£2000.00+) This amount of money pays for a lot of sites irrespective of price increases and pays for a lot of fuel for the car. As said in earlier posts, we don't mind paying the extra for the club sites as you know what you are getting,

...I agree with everything you say and its probably the same for very many others of the "retired" community of both major clubs, and a very high proportion of both clubs Family membership, going by the problems of availability during the main holiday periods, not the "off peak" offers from some companies here and "over there" to fill pitches to the detriment of families who have to pay through the nose at peak times

Yes Peedee, I can see where you are coming from, but I don't see the point of shoving the caravan in the middle of no where, in a muddy field, with no toilets, no showers, no EHU, no security and no body to talk to just to save a few pounds per night. I
am now at the age of enjoying all that can be thrown at me. When I first started caravanning (early 80s) with my young family we had a Europa caravan (built in the mid 70s) which had no EHU, no toilet or shower and a foot pump for the water, and yes we loved
it but we have moved on from there and we are now in the position to enjoy the best that we can get (within our budget) and we really enjoy it, CC sites are a major part of that for obvious reasons.0 -
All we ask of a site is EHU, water and waste. As we have an excellent Shower and Loo in the caravan we never use site facilities!
Would like a rebate from the CC, as we never use facilities like showers and the Loo!
Just use CL's then, plenty of those around.

This is the third thread in as many months about the rising cost of sites. The other two are >here< and >here<. With the National Living Wage destined to increase annually to the current recommended level of £9 per hour, (its currently at £6.70) I think it is something we are going to have to get used to on sites which employ staff to run them, whether they are Club owned or not. Cl owners and family run sites must be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospects of all the custom they could attract with their lower overheads and the "right facilities"

currently visiting Ludlow, so chose to stay at Ludlow Touring Park affiliated site....a 'commercial' really.....
however, despite being a 'five star site', totally immaculate (far better the the average CC site) and having a wonderfully warm shower block with heated floors, perfect HS pitches, an AO area should you desire this, and a location
that allows an easy stroll into Ludlow, they have winter offers on to attract customers....3 nights for price of two.....so a six night break for the price of four....now thats a good deal....
we can only stay five nights, but (along with extra discount for being CC members) this still got the price down to £19 a night.
now, this is more than we would would normally spend, especially for the week after a school hol 'peak week' but the site is really that good.....
probably, at its full price, we might not have bothered, but flexibility on their pricing meant they got five days of our business.....and its somewhere we might come back to.....

East Fleet Farm Touring park on the Dorset Coast near Weymouth has now become an affiliated site too. Nice site but quite expensive with add ons. see
