Broadway
Whilst looking through documents related to the South Worcestershire Development Plan I discovered this interesting letter, which starts as follows,
"Dear Sirs
Representation to the South Worcestershire Development Plan (SWDP) – Main Modifications
Consultation.
This representation seeks the consideration and inclusion of Broadway Caravan Club within the housing allocations for the South Worcestershire Development Plan
Broadway Caravan Club is located to the west of the settlement of Broadway, immediately adjacent to the settlement boundary. The site has an approximate area of 4.85ha. The site constitutes a sustainable location for residential development to meet the needs of the settlement of Broadway and the wider District.
Broadway Caravan Club
The site is located on the western boundary of the settlement of Broadway, to the west of Station Road outside but adjacent to the settlement boundary. The site is currently used for touring caravans. This site isnow not meeting the need of members, therefore it is surplus to the requirements of the Caravan Club, who are seeking to redevelop the site. The Caravan Club are committed to providing a replacement site within the local area which is more suitable for their members, this will ensure that there is no overall loss in tourism accommodation or to the local economy."
Seems odd to me, as I always thought what a nice site it was, within easy walking distance of Broadway centre.

I hope this doesn't go the same way as Bristol! Long battles to keep excellent sites. Would love to hear from CC about their commitment to providing a replacement site more suitable to their members, wouldn't the first place to start be by asking the members?
No doubt end up with a site called Broadway that is no where near Broadway, something all too regular with the CC0 -
The full PDF linked from the OP is dates November 15 and was a response to a consultation going on then on the local development plan so would appear to be current and under consideration.

It's in an old railway goods yard and I believe the rail line that runs behind the site is being re-opened.

All that have been to Broadway think of it's location!.............a prime building site with class houses all around. What would this fetch on the market?. Would Planning permission ever be granted now for a caravan site had it not been already established.I
don't think so. £££££s0 -

...Before it was developed it was quite small and leased i think, but it is now owned and will become even more popular when the railway arrives in a,couple of years it must be worth a fortune as building land (shades of Baltic Wharf) ?

Baltic Wharf is leased and the Club is not promoting development to the planning authority.
Development at Broadway is being put forward by the Club because it is 'surplus' and 'not meeting needs'. It's a completely different scenario.
We need more sites like Broadway not fewer

I would love to know how the site is " not meeting the needs of members". We have used this site many times and I fail to see any way that it does not meet the needs of members, except perhaps when it is full in late November, early December for the Broadway
Christmas event. Gosh if this site is failing members what hope for the remaining CC sites.0 -

Who is Savills acting for? Not the Club I hope. Broadway is a prime site for members and surely statements like not meeting the members needs are not being made by the Club? If it is a leased site then I guess there is little more that can be said but if it is in fact owned, the Club should let us know more. I would be strongly against its sale.

We too love Broadway and are booked in this year again. Fingers crossed it stays.

I have alerted this thread to Admin in the hope that we might get some further information. I can't imagine for one moment that the Broadway site is "surplus to requirements" as its such a popular site.

Perhaps the club are looking to build another site on the flood plane where the council will not allow housing. Then we'd have a site that's prone to flooding, like a number of other club sites eg Rowantree & Tewkesbury.... the way forward???

Write your comments here...Maybe rename ourselves "The Caravan & Yachting Club". At least CY will be pleased.
Don't our views count? Who, if it is indeed true, makes these decisions? I would have thought that such a hugely unpopular decision (to sell it) would have to be put to the members first and not taken unilaterally by HO.

I would be surprised if it was surplus to requirements or unsuitable for members/. It is a very busy site in a very popular area and having been there it seemed perfectl for its current pupose. It would be nice to see something from the club on this.
Given the value of housing in the area I suspect the land must be worth a small fortune.
We are short enough of sites and pitches now and this is one site that the club should fight to the end to retain.
