No News Yet on the New Booking System

I would much rather pick my own pitch and I would envisage that many other members would as well! I am sure that there would be numerous complaints from members about their pitches if pitches were allocated - some complain, even if they arrive on site late in the day and there are only one or two pitches still available! You say that it is the best system but how would you feel about it if you were allocated a muddy pitch, or an unnatractive pitch right next to the electric sub station or storage building?

I’m not advocating any other club / organisation or any other site should adopt this system . It’s just seemed to us very efficient way to run a site without having anyone in the office shuffling bits of paper about and waiting for the phone to ring and freeing up staff to be with their customers if needed and attend to site duties, neither did I say it would be good for all sites but our observations led us to think it did improve our level of customer satisfaction.

Interesting Site GP, got themselves well sorted with being Covid secure. I couldn’t find anything on prices though on website, assume you need to register first. Looks a good travelling stop though.

Personally I would be against paying a deposit - I like the system as it is and seldom book unless I am fairly certain I can go. If they did go for a deposit I would probably use the C&CC sites more often. It's the convenience of being able to cancel that keeps me with the C&MHC. My life isn't all that full of certainties so being able to cancel without penalty works well for me. I have family stuff and hospital appointments making the uncertainty.

I assume this is the one at Taunton, next door to VanBitz? If so I have stayed a couple of times, most recently in 2019. It seems to have changed a bit as I don't recall any barriers.

I have no strong feelings about deposits, but after making the argument in favour of folk to be able to book a surface pitch type for the last 10 years, I am really pleased that this will come online in 2022.
On the subject of deposits, the C&CC also take deposits and I think there are also occasions when they even say that members must book a minimum number of nights (may be weekends or Bank Holidays?).

Correct DK system installed 2020 below taken from there web site.
Summer 2020:-
We have beefed up the security at Cornish Farm Touring Park for the safety of our paying guests.
All bookings are now made online, and personal and contact details must be supplied along now with that vital last piece of information, the vehicle registration number.
The automatic number plate recognition system will check the number, cross reference the database to ensure that the vehicle should be allowed access to the site and open the security barrier.
Should you wish to visit us during normal office hours and your not booked in, you can use our new video surveillance system, again which allows us to see who you are, talk to you and allow access when appropriate.
All these things help keep you safer at Cornish Farm Touring Park

The one at our local Forestry Commission car park seems to work well enough. On a busy day handles hundreds of cars, through two barriers. Never seen a queue build up Yet. A good idea, could be introduced at new sites or during upgrades.

+1, they have the same at Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire-2 lanes. Auto open in & ANPR after payment out. I buy an annual pass. It’s seamless👍🏻

There is of course the human element with these systems. We have an annual pass so both are car numbers are in the data base. You put them in yourself on your online account. If you are just paying the daily fee, you have to start typing your number plate into one of the payment terminals. As you start to type it flashes up a list of possible matches to save time. Of course touch on the wrong one and you pay someone else’s bill.😂 and don’t get let out.

The Tesco at Stevenage which has "free?"two hour parking, if you spent in their store. When you enter the code they give you. It shows a list of vehicle numbers that are a match? Twice our reg number has not been on the list
The commuter car park cannot read it seems other than pristine plates, so if you park up after a very wet and muddy journey it cannot read the number when trying to exit
Ps regular commuters know about it

Yes, at certain times of the year and on specific sites the C&CC do apply minimum nights bookings but they also make exceptions for those who have onward journeys to another of their club sites. I’m also told that spare one night pitches can be picked up on the day of arrival if you dare chance it. Not brilliant at all in my opinion and I am against such a move for our club.
On the subject of ANPR sites, the CaMC did have one in operation until recently, it has been removed.

I can’t remember the width exactly of the gap but I don’t think it’s large enough for a car or caravan you could of course drive through the barrier but not sure you would be a welcome guest.😂
With a barrier I’m sure you have to provide pedestrians access without climbing over or under a barrier .
Video surveillance is also provided for any problems.

I agree with you about the minimum nights booking, Micky. It's not conducive to touring at all. Many a time I've been forced to look elsewhere when I've only wanted 1 night to break the journey between A and B.
Yes, there is a chance you can ring and book on the day but sometimes we want certainty, not chance.

Fully agree Tinny, we plan a lot of tours around 1 or 2 night stays, moving on along our route rather than retracing our steps, so it would be another reason for us to pitch elsewhere than a Club Site. I suspect quite a few other MH owners who tour like us might be the same.

It is Brue, we often had just the one night in the van, but we do “hop” more in the MH😁

Yes, Brue. I’m sure caravaners do too. Just recently I’ve used a one night stop to travel down to a habitation service some 90 miles away from home. I did similar for my motorhome MOT earlier this year.
Have also met several unplanned family ‘needs’ which have required an over night stay to break the journey. The likes all very useful I’m sure for many members. I can however understand why the independent and one off family run sites are not as accommodating mind but that’s their loss and why I remain a member of this club, this network of sites around the country.0
