Oh the irony of that post! surprised

But yes, I agree the UK touring section is the correct place for posts about touring in the UK and not the frequent irrelevant comparisons with touring overseas. 👍

Again as with EuroT perhaps you could do the same about UK holidays and sites?

Frankly, I couldn’t give a fig what you or others do, or why. It’s your choice.

If someone chooses to post information designed to be helpful, it’s surely plain rude to vilify them for that. If you can’t bring yourself to acknowledge the posting of such info in a gracious manner, simply ignore it.

    +1

Information and advice is very often given by nearly all posters. Sometimes one agrees and takes the advice or not, but at least I'm happy it is offered.

Or it is perhaps that some posters have to have their advice as the only correct one and must vilify any other?

It will be a pity to see this mainly constructive thread closed but I think Rowena's post to remember the guidelines is being ignored.

IMO one of the problems within this post is that those who wish to travel over there, and I dont have a problem with that, are very critical of the testing regime that is in force either to leave the country and enter.g. France and the testing regime in place that is in force for a range of countries, yes you can call it Boris Bingo, or whatever, and in some cases it is shambolic, but the testing regimes that are in force, if they only identify 25% of covide cases, 25% is better than nothing, so if you have to jump thru hoops, or risk being in a country that is suddenly added to the red list with very little notice, then no sympathy from me, you knew the risks, and if all this mean that me and mine will not be in lock down this Autumn thru Spring 2022 then so bit it.

Shambolic testing if that is what you want to call it is better than none, maybe we should take a lead from Australia/New Zealand, I know there vaccination programme is way behind ours but they will not be opening their borders until 2022 undecided

as Michael says....it depends on your view of things....

Portugal....average no of daily cases 2k and on the decline, deaths around a dozen and flat.

Spain... 17k cases on downward path of most recent wave, deaths 50 and flat.

France...23k cases and rising but deaths at 50 and flat.

UK....32k cases and gently rising, deaths around 100 and flat.

which of these places is 'safer' i couldnt say....

our UK touring this year has led us to far mor crowded places than when we are 'in the country' in france or spain...

again, which is the 'safer' touring...only each of us can decide.

Decided to call our holiday insurance for clarification should we decide to travel to europe. They confirmed that it matters not if we go to an Amber or Green country we will be covered. smile

Only if the Fco say 'All travel' is forbidden will the insurance be invalid, however if that happens after you have departed the UK you will still be covered.

If you catch Covid while you are away you will be covered.

As far as I can find out we are free to enter France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Austria and Luxembourg are still imposing a quarantine period for Brits. I didn't check Belgium or The Netherlands as we are not looking to go there.

Numbers per 100,000 for France are as high as the UK, while Spain and Portugal are much lower. I hear on the news and in the papers that Spain could go on the Red list.

What are the UK government basing their traffic light system on. Is it numbers or how many have been vaccinated because to me it doesn't make sense. Poland currently have around 11 cases per 100,000 yet remain on the Amber list.

We still have 2 weeks before we set off from home, so plenty of time still to change our minds or for the situation in europe to change.

Fair point BB, maybe countries over there really shouldn’t let UK folk in Europe🤷🏻‍♂️. I’m doing the right thing by ensuring that I personally don’t endanger our European cousins👍🏻

A good point there rocky as BB's figures missed out the vaccination rates for those countries. One can still catch the virus here or there despite being fully vaccinated and then infect someone on their travel who has not vaccinated due to perhaps lower vaccination rates?

We have talked for hours over the last few days and have come to the opinion that we will be in no more danger over there, than we would be on a campsite here.

We don't eat out, we don't frequent pubs, we don't go round kissing and hugging folk we don't know.

We keep to ourselves, we walk, cycle and swim. Probably the closest we get to others are in supermarkets. That's no different to here and we have been doing that since this all started.

We have had both jabs, we've had blood tests done by the ONS as part of a trial. We know we have antibodies to Covid.

We will wear masks as we still do here. We will sanitise our hands frequently.

We have no medical issues, not overweight, and reasonably fit.

Our next door neighbour currently has tested positive for Covid, this is the closest we have to our knowledge come close to anyone who has it.

At some point life has to resume, we've decided that for us that time is now.

If for others its not that time,  then that is fine, we all have to do what we feel is right for us.

Where ever you are going on holiday I wish you a safe journey and good weather, enjoy.

I think it’s called being-‘socially responsible’ my personal needs do not trump the potential taking of another’s life by an unfortunate series of events. If caring for others in your world is something to be mocked then it’s very, very sad.

Doesn't, on the face of it, appear to have much logic. My personal assessment is that "over there" is no more risky than here. What dissuades me is the additional cost and bureaucracy involved. The older I get, the more I am averse to hassle.

The recent increases in the Beta variant could be the reason as it had virtually doubled as a percentage of the Spanish cases by early August

Day 2 Covid tests on returning from overseas are a jungle, but seem to be under review by the government and may not last long.  As things stand the Randox company has been a popular choice, with prices less than some other companies and discounts for BrittanyFerries customers.

However, their Day 2 tests have to be returned to the Randox company in just one of two ways - either by private courier to their Northern Ireland address at your own expense, or left at a Randox drop box. For me it would be a 50 mile round trip to one of their drop boxes, but others are finding it is double that distance. Check where the drop boxes are before you buy, because they are not offering a postal service for returned samples.

Good information ET, have been looking at them OH checking if there is a drop box near our sons.

Might not be having to do them by the time we come back but you never know.
