Thanks C&C, kind of you to say so but I don't think our experience can match yours.  I feel much better about going now I have sorted the test issue in France.

Yes it was amazing just bumping into like that, shows how far CT can reach laughing

Enjoy your trip to D&G we were twice there this year both times good weather.

We've enjoyed all our trips this year and have been lucky with the weather. Really fancying something different now, open roads, lots of cycling and a sea warm enough to swim in.

well have been sea swimming for nearly 3 months now, perhaps a tad warmer down here, but did once swim in loch Ordie in April, Ouchhh!!!, blessed with excellent cycle tracks down here and it is mostly flat cool, done 3 trips thus far and they have been great, away in September to that little bit of France that got cut off by something called the English channel many years ago, so I wont have to worry about tests and forms to carry, hope you make it, Wee Bernie might have built a new wall by the end of August laughing

But I do have a dislike of the not so subtle hints that those of us staying "UK side" are pusillanimous, lily-livered, faint-hearted, spineless wimps.

You may think that but I could not possibly commentlaughing

It would seem France are keeping pace with the UK undecided

"France has reported more new daily Covid cases than the UK, reaching the 30,000 limit for the first time in four months.
The country recorded 30,920 new daily infections compared to 29,612 in the UK.
It is the highest figure in France since April 28 when the country was about to exit its third lockdown.

And a total 1,745 people are in intensive care units for the virus, up by 33, as the more contagious Delta variant spreads."

I guess as there is no amber plus any more the next step would be red

As you are not bothered about going why are you posting all this negative stuff?  It was inevitable that the rest of Europe/the world woudl catch up with us once the delta variant got loose, its other variants that matter now is the thinking as we know in general the delta variant is contained by the vaccines so people do not come seriously ill (well most).

I doubt it will go red again but of course it could do which is why as i said up thread we will decide once the next round of bingo is done and see what happens, so long as it stays amber (or green) and the amber rules do not change we will be over there like a shot.

I also feel the current need for tests may change as there is so much pressure both from the industry and MP's to remove them as no one else does them and so few are sequenced.

well i thought forums were there so that members who had information to share that they thought might be of value to others could post freely, it would appear on here that some just use the forum to post rude comments and generally try to instigate a war of words, and it would appear you switch quite frequently between posts in your endavours to do this which on several occasions has resulted in posts being closed, seriously i think you need to get out more, oh! and here is another snippet i read over breakfast this morning, hope you find it interesting laughing

    "

The data from NHS Test and Trace also showed that for arrivals from some of the most popular holiday hotspots including France and Germany, the rate of positive tests in July was less than 1 per cent. Portugal stood at 1.5 per cent and Greece at 1.5 per cent.

Spain had the highest level of infections, with 2.9 per cent of travellers from the country testing positive at some point in the first 10 days after their arrival in the UK. Before the last review of the “traffic light” classifications last week, Spain was said to be at risk of moving on to the red list because of its high infection rate and fears over the circulation of variants.

The next review is not due for another fortnight and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has guaranteed he will not make any changes to the current list before then. A decision on whether to impose tighter restrictions on Spain at that point will be taken on the basis of the latest data analysed by the Joint Biosecurity Centre."

One difference with this forum it seems ,some take a perversely anti attitude to anyone who although giving correct information, is not in the mindset of some, who seem to almost troll otherssurprised

+1, Autumn in Scotland is the next one for me👍🏻, I’m looking at Spring 2022 at the earliest to go over there-if then. Unless the predictability & confidence re safety rises significantly I too will be UK based.

I have no intention of travelling abroad at present That does not mean that I have no interest in affairs in Europe. I see no reason why Rufs should be criticised for giving either information or his personal viewpoint

Great idea, Rocky. It makes sense for this year.

Sing out if you want tips on areas, sites etc in Scotland as I've gleaned a fair bit of info over the last 30 years of going there. Not in this thread, obviously, as we don't want to derail it as so often seems to happen.👍

Having looked at the reports coming out of europe over the last 24hrs Spain, Portugal and France are not looking good destination to go to. The powers that be are advising Europeans to not travel to these countries. I would think that warning is falling on deaf ears given this is the main holiday season, within a few weeks it will also be snow bird season. I really can't see the vaccinated Germans and Dutch not travelling to Spain.

Looking at the numbers of cases coming out of these countries, France is almost level with the cases in the UK and Spain and Portugal are considerably less. Given that both France and Spain are much bigger in area than the UK would we feel safer?

Might be time to think about changing our plans and go to Germany and Austria etc. Where they are considered to be less cases and the UK gov give them a green rating,  which at least means insurance will be valid. Just need to find out now if it will remain valid if we transit without stopping through an Amber country.

Having had 3 holidays so far in Scotland (we live here) 1 holiday in England is it so wrong to fancy going somewhere else.

Early frosts & hazardous driving conditions will put many off, rightly so if a person is in a top heavy Moho or tugging a big van☹️

TG as far as Spain is concerned it certainly needs a lot of thought, especially regarding their local regimes and strict curfews.

I would still like to understand what happens if you develop covid on an EU camp site. What can insurance companies do to help you etc.

It’s absolutely not wrong TG, you like many, many others crave normality. You just need to square it with your innate sense of safety & intelligence. Once you’ve ticked all the boxes you will feel safe & conscience free. I hope we all get to that state as soon as is humanly possible👍🏻

We have done the southern cities of Scotland by train on numerous occasions, we are thinking ,we may go for a coach tour in a couple of years time

,Train to Edinburgh or Glasgow, then a coach tour from one of them,  I can then  see the scenery instead of watching the roadcool

I think it depends if you are a half full or half empty glass person how you read any stats.  I said above it is obvious Europe would follow us in cases with the D variant like we initially followed them so as I see it you are as at much risk there or here of catching the same virus and variant, its only if a new variant that evades the vaccines we need to worry.

As for Germany that was OK last year as you could transit back through any country and still not isolate etc. however this year you are not allowed so that will not work.

you might like to take a look at this article in the P&J, not a MH owner so only read the headlines

Interesting article in The Press and Journal

    "

A motorhome hire company has told customers to stay away from the NC500 amid claims vehicles have been egged and had tyres slashed.

As I said we will only go if the situation is same as now and Boris bingo does not change the landscape negatively.

As my old Mum used to say if you can't say anything helpful then keep your gob shut but enjoy your holiday wherever you choose to take it but be wary of complacency thinking because you are in the UK you are immune because you are not, in fact more at risk because of the crowds whereas if we do manage to get abroad we will be at much less risk due to less crowds and more space.

Did you or will you ever tour abroad, I seem to recall from all your posts you always tour in the UK so why would you be bothered about others touring abroad which is different from having an interest in affairs in Europe which would be better served by looking at the news or maybe foreign newspapers or websites not a petty little forum looked at by about 10 people?undecided

what poppy cock, my caravan never strays from our home hardstanding during the months of July & August, why?, because of the crowds, we will be venturing out for a 1 months stay at the end of this month to an area that will be as equally quiet as anywhere over there, we were also out May thru June again in an area of tranquilty, dont get me wrong, we love overthere Spain & France, but after weighing up all the pros and cons, not for us this year, but as I said enjoy your trip. OH!!! I thought these words would be helpful
