    Nellie

No reason at all but that is not what the Club seem to do. I have just checked Hebden Bridge which closes on 1st November. Likewise Thetford and Stamford. . They all have hardstandings and even half a dozen serviced pitches at Hebden. I don't know but I imagine the reason they don't open over winter is that the Club don't feel there is sufficient demand to justify the staff wages and maintenance?

No facility sites with serviced hardstandings  and a few ordinary grass pitches could be popular.

We are looking much more to use CLs, especially those with serviced pitches, and the CLs we have been on this year were all pretty full every night.

With the potential cost saving, we would certainly  choose a site with serviced pitches and no toilet block over a full facility site.  Serviced pitches are also great when the weather is bad.

That  will of course depend on caravan/MH layout and ease of using onboard shower, but where there is a separate shower it is a very good option.  On our 5 week tour in June/July, we did not use any site showering  facilities at all, and only used the toilets a few times as they were there, not out of necessity.

No facilities block to clean would reduce staffing requirements and therefore costs.

Sites with hardstandings and EHU  but no facilities block would be close to being a motorhome Aire.wink

It seems to me, there has been an increase in use of this type of site and similar CLs this year. If this is down to the increased numbers of motorhomes/campervans on the road rather than COVID  then it may well continue?

Some pitches at the Marazion site are on quite firm ground.

The length of season is, surely, dependent on a durable pitch surface rather than the availability of a toilet/shower block?

One would think so and parts of the Marazion site can become a quagmire in bad weather unlike nearby Godrevy which is based on quick draining sandy soil.

It might be worth looking at Globe Vale (just outside Redruth).  It's central, therefore making it easier to visit a wide variety on places.  We've used it for years, although I'. tempted to try Carnon Downs now that it's a Club Site  just to see what it's like...

We've just come back from staying at the lovely Marazion camp site (4th Sept 2022) and were informed by the staff that the site will be closing in two weeks time. What a shame.

Can you elaborate, please, as the site always closes for the season in late September. Is this the usual seasonal closure you refer to or something more?

Rowena explained in June 2021 that it is on a yearly rolling lease.

But not closing permanently - it’s listed as re opening on 10 March 2023. .

Things are seasonal down here - many businesses wind down for the winter when visitor numbers dwindle - just as Brittany Ferries closes down its Plymouth ferryport.

In that case if a decision has not been made about the future of the site, it’s strange that the reservation page shows that bookings can be made from 10 March 2023.

Hi Rowena,  I do hope it will be positive news we have been going to this site for many years and regard it as one of the best sites the club has.

No availability showing for 2023 for Marazion.

That can mean only one thing?

    Very sad.

One of the loveliest sites, very well used.

Did you see Rowenas post ? Mind the silence about High Onn speaks volumes about the usual lack of any EGH comunication

It seems that the chest puffing about Clachan is even in this months magazine

A great shame if this site was to close, a long lease is what is required to allow investment not necessarily in a facilities block.

    Very sad that it's closing/closed 🥲

I just want to confirm the dates you quote.

November 2022 magazine announcement. Closure end of September 2022.

Another example of poor communication? Disrespect of membership? Or a really sudden unexpected event? If the dates you quote are correct.

Just seen on FB  that Marazion has reopened under new management. It would appear to be true and is now listed on Pitchup. Very resonably priced as well.

I see it’s a 15% non-refundable deposit payable at the time of booking and no amendments allowed in the 7 days prior to arrival. Also there’s a 5m fire gap between pitches. I wonder how that translates into space between units🤷🏻‍♂️.

Still, it’s good to see the site is continuing 👍

Do let us know what you think about it and how it may have changed. I also used to like this site but won't be able to use it this year, I have already made my annual visit to Cornwall.

We will be interested as well, come the day we get to return. I am wondering who is actually running it nowadays, possibly St Aubyn Estates? Can’t find much out.

Very nice flat coat, but it’s well over an hours drive to Marazion, and probably a lot more in high season. If the Roseland was where you wanted to be, it would be lovely. Cornwall has lots of lovely sites local to some very special places.
