Marazion
Just read on a review that the Marazion site is due for closure. Does anyone know if this is correct and can CAMC sites team confirm or not? Thanks.

I hope it's not true but I believe the site is leased from St Aubyn Estate so it could be so. That site is unique.
I've reported your post asking for a response, Brue.

I think I'm correct in saying St Aubyn own it but I'd not stake my fortune on that😗

Although nearby, never visited this site. However, seems we’re increasingly losing touring sites to statics and glamping style places. Hoping this isn’t another example?

We stayed at Wood Farm Charmouth last month and they are busy installing statics with one of the site staff saying that within two years there will be no touring pitches.

This will be very bad news indeed if it’s true😢 It’s one of those little gems that has hardly altered since we first used it back in the 1980’s.
I am sure it’s on St Aubyn land Tinny, as you say, like the lovely CL we used to use that was very close, now gone. It’s a busy little Site as well, considering it’s no facility, we had to start booking back in the mid 1990’s, once the paddock area was provided with hook ups, along with other little areas.
Ok, Godrevy isn’t far, but it’s totally different.
We are booked into Threeways Marazion in September. Let’s hope it won’t be our final ever stay.
I hope the Club will be up front and keep Members like us, who love this little Site, aware of any changes. We were even thinking of looking at a seasonal pitch for our van down there😢

Not that close JV, and oh so different. Sort of like comparing a City with a tiny hamlet, both nice in their own way, but just about the only common factor is both are in Cornwall. Folks that love Marazion are unlikely to have the same affection to CD, and vice versa.

Last year when the pandemic hit , several sites on the clubs network did not open?,
The ccc were hit even harder as their salaries and working conditions are below this club
One of the. them aim reasons was that older retired site staff were unwilling to carry on ,
there is I understand a very large shortfall older relief staff and as posted elsewhere the entire hospitality industry is having difficulty in recruiting ,
And it being a non facilty site I think it is low on the list for cover
The couple doing relief here have a house in Spain and have come over for the peak season to relieve on sites,
They are needed at Denham when leaving here
Also some bigger sites on the network are still understaffed made worse I am told by the loss of so many couples so far this year
If glamping pods are getting more popular and with the Imminent some think decline in touring because of lack of useful EVs for towing or even bigger commercial vehicle base vehicles then staffing levels maybe adjusted down

Marazion is a one couple warden site and they used to be aided by volunteers but for several years there have been just the wardens and no volunteers.
JV, I can't see any way Carnon Downs purchase could be linked to a potential closure of Marazion. It's more likely, I think, that the club bought CD, already an AS, to keep it in the site network and increase the property portfolio.

Wood Farm already has a considerable number of statics. It's privately owned and in a different league from Marazion. I take your point though about the dwindling number of touring pitches.

Slightly off topic..........I think last year hit lots of businesses hard, mainly because of the uncertainty, having to self isolate, etc....
Doubt this is part of the Marazion scenario to be honest. If the Club is having issues recruiting and retaining Site staff, then it would suggest a review of salaries, working practices and it’s recruitment policy. It’s done very well out of current policies down the last few years, but it possibly needs to up its game more to retain staff and ensure job satisfaction.
I think this is likely to be more driven by St Aubyn Estate rather than Club. As someone said earlier, lots of changes afoot in holiday provision. It’s been happening for a few years.

I will not say how much some site managers on the top sites get paid. and their contracts but it is far better than the ccc ,as is noted by those from the ccc who join the cc site staff, and there is already those who moan about the cost of staying on club sites
As you I am sure know staff are one of the most costly of any organisation,
It was suggested and "liked" by some recently that staff should also be on shifts to enable arrivals much later , all of course with no cost to members
Retaining staff as any one who employs those front of house staff will say is getting more difficult with the way the public treat them the days

St Aubyn finances have not been good in recent years - big unexpected costs following purchase of Mount Haven Hotel. They may be realising some assets?

Possibly SB. Like many other places I suspect, winds of change are blowing.
Personally, this Site is a big loss to us, as it’s always been an ideal location for both coasts, and some lovely walks. It’s a lot quieter, even when full as well than most Club Sites, more our kind of place. Carnon Downs holds no attraction at all, but Godrevy looks ok. There are lots of CLs and other Sites thankfully.0 -
I think all the information you quote is best left for another thread really, just hope we get some information around what might be happening.🙂

Marazion and the way it seems many sites of both clubs and commercial ,seem to be changing with the growth of alternative types of accomodation i would think staffing costs and levels are High on the list of savings,
And even being a one couple site there are another set of staff to cover their 6days? every 21off duty
Ps the club it seems are also not recruiting for volunteers at this time, more costs saved?

Its a great little site I would certainly not like to see it closed. Is it the Club or the owner who want to close it? Sounds like another Bromsgrove or Nunnykirk just when COVID seems to have boosted low facility occupancy. If staffing is the problem the Club should at least look at introducing some form of automation.

I suspect, hope, it will be Estate rather Club. It’s yet another of the lovely little sites we use, and the reason we stay Members. Can’t do anything about it if Estate wants to change things sadly.

We've only used it the once, but it's always on our list of site to use again whenever we might get back down that way. Sadly there will shortly be none of the non-facility sites left they way the club is closing them down.

Hi
We worked Godrevy Park for 4 years and Marazion was our go to site for some r&r. Upset if it's to close as a club site, we've given Cornwall a miss this year to explore further up country on our rest days as we're in north Devon but hoped to resume there next year. If it is closing it definitely won't be anything to do with staffing or the cost there of. Don't believe posters on here who "know it all".

I think if recent experience is anything to go by we must expect more leasehold sites to disappear. When the original leases were signed years ago I expect the owners had little interest in what the land could be used for beyond being grateful for the lease income. Now of course they see high value investment and return on providing static accommodation so they are considering whether it is worth continuing with leases that don't give much of a return. Alternatively having a low value lease on land they may well wish to sell could be another reason?
I appreciate that Carnon Downs camping is not a like for like replacement but it is in the South West and I am sure the Club are looking at their overall portfolio of sites and buying where it is possible so they are less dependent on leases?

I won’t 👍🏻
Hopefully, Ro will tell us the official version next week and quash the pointless speculation.

It never was jv. I've run that other site as well and until recently has never needed a "satellite" site. Bit '80's that I think. Are you "privy" to the plans for here and that other site then jv?
