In the first lockdown I was stopped a couple of times on my way across town to do my Cinnamon Trust dog walking - the officers were happy when I showed them my ID badge on both occasions. But we did walk our own two separately, one of us in the morning the other in the afternoon.

So to be clear - is Mr Shapps saying we can both go out with them morning and afternoon?

    Dear *****

Thankyou for contacting me this morning with respect of tier five dog exercise

I can clarify your dog/s can be walked more than once a day

    Regards

    Grant

Ps when i am out with Rosa i always wear my Safer Neighborhood Dog Watch badge courtesy of Herts police and local council

Interesting, and surprisingly carefully worded for a politician! wink

I note it says "your dogs can be walked more than once a day" and not "you may walk your dogs more than once a day"!

Anyway, if stopped I'm going to claim the JVB defence. 👍

I think there are still a deal of folks returning home around the country after Christmas and the New Year to be honest🤨

There’s a comment, unsubstantiated, in the Guardian today, that indicates Cornwall’s only big hospital Treliske has something like 50% of the Covid cases in ICU occupied by persons whose first home is in London. Cornwall’s daily case rate increases are very bad at the moment.☹️

think about it logically, if you were on the A500 going shopping, just maybe many others had the same idea, and judging by some photos in the press today many were indeed out shopping.cool

Re The Guardian, can you provide a link as a Google search has given no results?

    Thanks

The local traffic was much lighter in this area today but then the school run was not going

and we can hear traffic on the A1 but did not seem a heavy this morning

AD your suggestion about the Mway traffic on diversion ,would it be because only one direction was diverted

It’s a comment from someone who works for NHS in Cornwall, underneath another article written by a Paramedic. I will try and find a link for you, apparently it’s in the “below the line” comments. Most commented upon article according to my OH. I will see if I can re find it for you👍

This is article A&J. There’s a link to comments, loads of them now, it’s a matter of scrolling down through them to find that one. Not sure if you need to subscribe to open it

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/jan/06/covid-crisis-paramedics-nhs-overstretched#comments

OH read it out to me some time ago, so possibly hundreds more comments have come in now.

Back in the March lockdown, when I ventured out the streets were almost deserted. Had to visit the hospital this morning, and the streets seemed to be at normal levels, although Asda’s car park looked no more than a third full.

I don’t know about the mix of Covid patients in Treliske but recent item on local BBC suggested that the hospital is not (yet?) under significant pressure, although that can quickly change. There have been plenty of family groups in Cornwall in recent weeks - not locals. Like most other hospitals Treliske have massively expanded their ICU capacity. I think infection rates are currently 320/100k, some way from the rate not too long back when it was about 22/100k! Wouldn’t be surprised to find 50% of local ICU filled with Kensington & Chelsea residents though!

This lock down is different from the March lock down, in March only key workers were allowed to go to their place of work if they could not work from home and people were asked where possible to work from home, today people have been asked to work from home where possible, however, trademen such as builders, plumbers etc are allowed to go to work hence many white vans out and HGV's no doubt delivering goods to the various builders yards , supermarkets etc.

After an initial rush when lockdown was announced it's quieter here, the local house builders are now noisier than the A303. Very quiet in our village and very few walkers compared to ealier lockdowns.

He must rank as one of the top three most inept Education Ministers ever. Even Members of his own party want him out.

Since CY's mention of him looking like Frank Spencer the other night I am constantly imagining him wearing a beret and raincoat and talking about doing "whoopsies" on the carpet! laughing

I received an email from a teacher old friend who said the algorithm this year would be grades based on the parent's mortgage. The higher the mortgage the higher the grade.

Actually looking back that did seem to be sadly the caseundecided

Do you think they (the cabinet) keep him around, sort of like the class dunce to make everyone else look good? A bit like they did with Failing Grayling.

    ps It's not working.

Headline in one newspaper this morning states

"Virus will overwhelm hospitals in 2 weeks"

I seem to recall a Mr Whitty predicting this way back in September if we were not all good boys and girls over the winter/Christmas and people called him the prophet of doom. I guess what goes around comes around undecided

That man talks a great deal of sense. He’s not afraid to answer difficult questions either. I see he got criticism for suggesting there could be a form of lockdown next winter too.
Had to smile at the Press Conference before Christmas when a smart ***** reporter was asking how the panel were spending their Christmas Day and he replied that he was spending his on the wards helping out.

Im a great admirer of him, and of Jonathan Van Tam, another straight talker.
