Is it me or are we getting just too soft in this country? Reports in the news that car parks in Snowdonia are blocked with so many visitors. Some of these have travelled from Kent and Southampton to walk! The Wardens are trying to deal with it and people are being advised. Well if they don't know by now that they should not be driving from a tier 4 area to Wales to walk they never will. The police should be there giving the likes of these idiots an immediate fine. I suppose the problem is people are being 'advised' not to travel from tier 4. Unbelievable that parties were being held over New Year will the fines issued ever be paid. I am getting old, we used to do as we were told. I believe it starts in some homes and schools, often no respect. The fact that sometimes paramedics are having their vehicles vandalised while they are treating people is a sure sign that things are not right.

DEBSC I find it unbelievable too. It seems like madness would folk consider it a day trip from Kent to Wales for a walk at other times?
Sadly I can't really see things 'improving' with folks behaviour whilst we get so many mixed/weak messages from those in charge. How many changes have there been since Christmas alone? I think its slipped too far now and we dont have the resources to enforce even if it was made illegal. Poor army seems go be called in for so much at the mo I'm wondering if they've divided each serving person in 2 😉.
I think the real clangers are in changes to vaccination times, we've only had it weeks and they've known there are manufacturing issues with things - in this case phials since the pandemic began and add in the on/off messages for schools....... I won't expand further.
I'm preparing myself for another 6 months minimum of toughest lockdown and hoping to be proved wrong......
There is graffiti appearing around our city staying police state. Will the next thing be riots? 😱😱
I'm normally a glass half full sort but don't want to dwell on issues too much at the mo. Doing all I reasonably can to keep me and mine as safe as possible. And that's as much as I can control at the moment.

Regarding "visitors" to Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, I did read one report of a transgressor having their car impounded at the scene - investing in a few thousand wheel clamps and insisting on fines being paid before releasing them might just focus the minds of those idiots!
As for the change in vaccination policy, it seems eminently sensible to me, moving forward, to extend the interval between doses if it means more can be vaccinated (just a pity that a certain ex PM seems to be being credited with the decision!). But for those old and vulnerable who have already had their first doses, I do think existing arrangements should be honoured - those folk have enough to worry about anyway without surgeries having the task of contacting them to explain why what they were expecting was now not the case.

It certainly needs something to concentrate their minds!
Yep I accept the principle of the change in vaccination programme, more through, the ex PM has been saying it for rather a long time..... BUT having stressed the importance to those who've already had the 1st dose and booked their 2nd, plus the time it will take to cancel them, then at the GP/Practice discretion seems a bit mad and hopefully they wont get lost in the system. I too think they should be vaccinated and then they can have no more concerns over the vaccine at least.

Regarding the change of vaccination policy I want to know who is lying. A few weeks ago the OAZ vaccine would produce about 40% immunity around 21 days after the jab. Now all of a sudden it's over 70%. Magic. Even JVT is choosing his words very carefully. Only a clear statement from the MHRA will convince me one way or the other.

Please ignore my post above. It should read as below:

Re: the Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons situation, the example in parts of the Trossachs was that jokers were parking during the covid lockdown, here there and everywhere so much so that the emergency services were being prevented access to the roads. Result the local authority put in a fine of £80 per person and impound the car. Costs soon ramped up!

Our snow sorted a few out yesterday, although to be fair, they were local walkers like us. (Tier 3) We passed at least five cars that had spun off the winding roads into fields (thick mud). And then were twice prevented from getting to our destination by cars stuck trying to get up hills but getting nowhere. We decided to park slightly away from where we wanted to be, and did a longer walk, but luckily the dog was having a ball so coped. We passed the car park at Roche where we had intended stopping, but there was a chain of cars going nowhere fast. The main thought was to rev like crazy and drive as fast as you could up the snowy hill.
SIL lives in Bakewell (Tier 4) Locals aren’t going out it’s so full of day trippers from elsewhere. Plenty there stuck in snow as well.

Police in Matlock area complaining today about the Travellers coming into the White Peak area & getting stuck - 22 people inc kiddies rescued & taken to safety then shooed off home..
The way it was phrased it sounded as if they were long distance travellers but, in truth, they were actually from around the Stockport area, which, until the fairly recent redrawing of the Manchester map, was also in Cheshire. Bobbies were right in their comments but seemed to be over-egging the distances travelled somewhat, IMHO.

Seems events are moving so fast that we will get more restrictions today. Have no problem with tough rules and cant fathom why anyone is unaware of the basics by now. Again the rights of the individual needs to be superseded by the welfare of the whole at these times.

Another Lockdown. Sensible and not before time. Also sensible to close schools and to cancel exams, otherwise very unfair to older students, at least, hopefully, there won't be the late uturn fiasco of last year. Now we just need everyone to actually follow the rules.

As an exercise it will be interesting to see what effect the National Lockdown in Wales has over the next few weeks. The lockdown started here on 21/12, so in theory we should over the next few days see infection rates reducing. Time will tell and we hope this bears out to give us all some respite from the incessant bad news.

As you no doubt know, the English lockdown is now in force. I would expect the number of infections to now be in decline, as was the case back in March. Given the general lack of response by the public in recent times, I’m guessing the effect won’t be as good as it should be. Still, no doubt in my mind that it’s the right way to go.

These are the same questions that have occurred to me. Children may be resistant to the effects of the virus, but they are not immune to infection and will be carriers who then infect people with whom they come into contact, It is my belief that children and students could be the reason why infection rates have risen despite the tier restrictions. These groups do not rigidly follow social distancing because their naturally youthful excitement causes them to forget to follow the rules. So, for example, a class of 25-30 children come together from a wide area of homes, over a few days a percentage become infected, and then they carry that infection back to their families at home.
At present we do not know how long the vaccination will last before a booster is needed. We do not know if, once given, the same type of vaccine must be given for future boosters. With the virus rapidly mutating, could an existing vaccination become prematurely ineffective well before a booster vaccination is due?
The vaccines may have been produced and tested very quickly, but how well they perform and for how long they are effective can only be determined by evaluation in the longer term. So it is probable that some degree of restrictive caution could be necessary for a significant time into the future. Hello new world!

There has been some evidence from a study done at one of the hospital trusts where they have analysed data from the hospital staff testing regime. This is based on naturally acquired antibodies from those previously infected by comparing data from march/April with that from October/ November. I know of no reason why antibodies acquired from a vaccine should not produce similar results as in previous Corvid viruses . The paper is up for peer review at present and to be released in hard copy near the end of January.

Is there a plan to eventually vaccinate younger adults, and children?
As things stand at present, children will not be vaccinated.

I'm not sure if many of you have seen this figures for testing but they really surprised me.
Number of tests per million population;
USA 783,838
I thought that was unbelievable but the figure for the UK is higher at 832,473. Considering we probably only know one or two people who have had a test there must be tens of thousands/millions who have had numerous test. I realise front line workers, teachers etc are regularly tested but I'm still surprised at the figures.

Blimey JVB - you must have a hot line to your cabinet member MP. It takes me weeks to get any sort of acknowledgement from our MP and she's only a very junior minister.
Actually, I didn't realise we were ever exempt - it would have made our lives in the first lockdown a lot easier!
