It's very tough on all of us.

Wales I hope won't attempt to put a border ban in place, it took long enough to build Offa's Dyke..wink I'm wondering if enough emphasis has been put on local area essential travel only in affected places?

When we were last at our static van in Stratford on Avon our neighbours called across our plot that they wouldn't come close as they were from a higher risk area than us, not Liverpool, which we appreciated, we conversed across the plot. It has occured to me now that, as far as I know, there is nothing to stop someone from a very high risk area travelling away and doing all the things they can't do at home. Maybe even two groups travelling away and then meeting up. If I am right this seems ridiculous. Especially as we approach half term holidays.

I agree, but how do you enforce it. We don't live in a police state with identity card checks road blocks etc. Or perhaps a compulsory phone App ratting you out when you stray over the border.

When Leicester went into lockdown several holiday businesses refused to accept folk from certain post codes. Perhaps the same will happen this time. Otherwise I'm afraid we just have to rely on people acting responsibly.

When we were in Lockdown the Police certainly enforced non travelling here. I was stopped twice while travelling to the supermarket, which was allowed, and is 4 miles away. I was fine with them checking. Highest tier should also come with an out of county travel ban, except for work or school. Maybe not completely enforceable but it would help. Most people have acted responsibly but to rely on some who have been totally irresponsible is, sadly, asking too much.

This is already happening I'm afraid, we witnessed it at the weekend. Grandparents meeting up with the children and grandchildren from different areas.

The area in Scotland we live is out of the central belt so pubs not closed during the day. Folk from the central belt are travelling into other areas to eat and drink thankfully only during the day as even in other areas they have to close by 6pm.  If the Scottish government had allowed the pubs to stay open until 10pm in these other areas it would have been disastrous. What is the mentality of people that they are willing to travel 60+ miles to go drinking.

I think travel restrictions were easier to enforce when it was a country wide lockdown. It wouldn't be easy to control all routes out of Liverpool and once out they just one of many who aren't covered by restrictions. Even with total lockdown things varied, we were never checked when undertaking essential travel.

Restricting travel, say to 20 miles of home was a suggestion I made many months ago. I agree it seems crazy that folk from the very high risk areas should be free to travel wherever they wish. Enforcement on the spot would undoubtedly be difficult but there is surely no lack of ANPR cameras in this country which could be used to discourage it.

Perversely that would mean folk from Nottingham, with the highest case rate in the country, could visit our village, as they can at the moment.☹️Although it would stop travel further afield. Currently we are not particularly high rate wise, but are to be lumped in the high band as all of Nottinghamshire.

Would you let me go to work which is more than 20 miles away from home? 🙄

Steve - I we talking about when the lockdown was lifted in July when I made that point. I think under this new 3 tier system it would have to be a much more restrictive measure than that. Admittedly hard for folk who live in those particular high risk areas but, hopefully,  a reasonably short term embargo.

We go into level 2 here tomorrow. It doesn’t actually make any personal difference to us, don’t visit pubs, no desire to eat out, we only meet up with Mum and Sister who are doing the same, no contact with children, students of any age, care workers etc....... Deliveries were booked before we went to Norfolk. We appreciate that we are very lucky to be able to do this, and aren’t out there like other family and friends who have to work, and in high risk occupations. (It has its challenges though, we are caring for a dementia patient, so not all wine and roses😕)

We are sandwiched between two high case areas, that covering West Yorks, and that edging Northwards from Nottinghamshire. To be honest, it’s getting worse daily all over England, it feels very like when we came home in March, only this time round, cases are building at a much quicker rate.

It isn’t all about cases rates in terms of which tier is implemented from what I gather. I was wondering about Nottingham, (which will be level 2), but from what I could find, it depends on other factors as well, such as actual admissions into hospitals, and how the local services are coping.

Just in case anyone wants to check out the proposed tiers for areas of England (at the moment), here is a link showing areas and tiers.

This happened to me yesterday and I spent all day trying to find the message again!

Typical messages read: "Possible Covid-19 exposure. Someone you were near reported having Covid-19. Exposure date, duration and signal strength have been saved."
When users click on the notifications they disappear, and when they open the app, there is nothing to be seen and no new advice

I can't remember if it was this thread or the other Covid thread, but someone posted that schools and school children were not super spreaders. I posted a reply that if they are not super, then they certainly are spreaders with a few examples.

Looking at one graph from last night's briefing the fastest growing infection age group was the 10 -19, and while some of that is perhaps due to university students, there are far more school children that students under 20 so can't be all students.

Interestingly a report from NI states:

Going back to full lockdown, but keeping schools open, would reduce the R-number to a "little less than 1", says the document, citing modelling from a range of UK groups.

A full lockdown with schools closed and the hospitality sector remaining open would result in an R-number possibly a little higher or lower than one, it adds.

"It is not considered likely that R can be less than one with both schools and hospitality open," says the document

It was a little eye catching seeing it for the first time, I was wondering if it would give details of location? Otherwise not too much use is it.

It would send a message if some were stopped and questioned and then fined if not compliant ,and question an any LVcool

3 students in Norwich have fined been fined £10,000 each for having a party with about 100 "guests" and some have said it is too harshundecided

Just reading the article on BBC news - apparently it's a glitch which has now been fixed - well, I say fixed, but the article says the message will still appear but with a follow up message from the government telling you to ignore it!

You really couldn't make it up, could you! yell

Edit - replying to Corners and ED above.

There have been signs that the police are monitoring the border routes in to North Wales, as they did when England lifted their national lockdown but Wales resisted for a while longer with their 5 mile rule.

A neighbour has an oak table for sale on Facebook and someone from Oswestry wanted to buy it but mentioned that the police are patrolling the route into Wales near Chirk and Wrexham.

We've seen that the police are patrolling quite frequently on the border near Chester as well.

I know that our First Minister is fuming at Johnson, not just for not stopping those people from VH category from travelling but for not bothering to reply to his formal letter, merely responding through the television media. No way to garner respect or co-operation. Not surprised though.

Too bad. They should have thought of that beforehand. No sympathy.

Same as weddings. Didn't someone say that some people are factoring in fines in their costings? Shameful really.

I think the only way that people will change their cavalier attitude is when they are shamed into it by law abiding folk. The State can't be bothered.

Even some who post on here were against "reporting"the sort of problems that those "does not mean me" stupid individuals are making for others in society as reported last week?

It started mostly in the 18 -22 yr age groups and has now crept up to  more vunerable who are affected the most that has been noted with hospital admissions

Oh yes. Sadly the politics is interfering with getting to grips in a number of ways, that’s why I happen to think that a national emergency such as this should have had a cross party input as soon as possible. That way, it becomes a collective political responsibility, with no one party dictating total policy. Of course it should have included the Nationalist parties from Scotland, Wales and NI as well, so that it’s a cohesive approach.

Squabbling about who is doing this and that right, to score political points,  I find offensive at times like this, shows no respect at all for the population. Should be zero tolerance on those in positions of power as well, regardless of who they are, politician, advisor or scientist (although whilst happy to see politicians and advisors given no mercy, I am happy to let the scientists carry on working in the background)

I can only think of one scenario worse than this at the moment, and that’s to be at war. Had it been a War, we would have been sunk within weeks given the rank stupidity and level of unpreparedness exhibited by those making decisions at the moment. Aided and abetted by a tiny minority of the population who don’t give a damn beyond their own self gratification.
