"We live in an expensive country ..."

That is exactly the point many of us have made over the years when comparing UK site prices with continental ones! I'm surprised you haven't noticed the comments! wink

That’s plainly obvious, but the question is should Club sites be cheaper for most folk, for most of the time? In a membership organisation, I think they should, otherwise what’s the point?

I don't understand how you are being over charged or getting poor value for money?

To be overcharged and/or received poor value one must have bought something?

As I recall you have stated you have not stayed in a club site this year? If so how have you been overcharged?

You may think club site prices are high or do not give value but that is totally different to saying you have overcharged or received poor value.

The point is to offer good quality sites at a mid level price. Then the 'customer' decides if they want to pay.

    Many do.

While taking the long way round from Buttermere to Newlands my support vehicle driver (aka Mrs C) noticed that the club site at Manesty had a site full sign.

(A non facilities site for those that don't know)

Staying on an Independent site within 15 miles of Barnard Castle site.

Price for CAMC site £27.30 per night.

Price for Independent Site - £20 per night.

Who is profiteering now? Don't tar every non CAMC site with the same brush.

And yes, there is no charge for awnings, dogs etc.etc. We'll use club sites if it suits but not if there is a cheaper, good as, alternative in the same area.

And yes we do have a stay on a club site coming up.

For me, in general if a CMC site is located where I wish to be for a stop on a tour on a tour it is generally first choice. If not I look for alternatives. Whether they are a bit dearer or a bit cheaper does not really matter.

I think, WN, that most of us accept that there are non-club sites out there that are both cheaper and dearer, better and worse than club sites. M summed it up well.

We use what’s best for us on the occasion whether it be a CAMC site, CL/CS, C&CC site, commercial. Surely, that’s what choice is all about.

    Enjoy your stay.

High prices? in all seasons ,more like prices that are not trying get max profit out of families for the short periods that people normally visit the south west  ,but spread out to try to be for everyone

Haven are one of the more "rip off sites" with their  prices at peak and then do loss leaders off peak which have been "subsidised" by family peak prices

TW, I think the pertinent part of your post is "most of us". As I said I don't mind using any type of site, bit like yourself.smile

I am sure the Old Oaks site is very nice and I have heard it being spoken of highly.  Am I likely to use it, probably not. Why not, simple because its too remote for my needs. It's a two mile walk each way into the town (no sign of transport as far as I can see) which would be a bit much for us. I have used the Cheddar site. I accept it's pretty ordinary but it is within easy walking distance of the town. From that perspective any cost difference makes no difference to me. You mention further on the Lost Gardens of Heligan site which I would probably use as we like the gardens but I don't imagine cost would come into it.

What really puzzles me is why are you a member of the Club when you are continually saying how pointless it is being a member?

It obviously works for them and the customers that use it.

Does anyone ACTUALLY know if t'other Club has such limited availability as CAMC? Not wanting to bring up the deposit conversation, I simply just wish to know if there is more availability?

It's a business model and in normal times it has worked very well for them. They can just about give away the pitches off peak, hoping folk spend money in the bars etc. Unfortunately that sort of model does not work as well at the moment, with social distancing reducing capacity. I've not looked but I would assume they will struggle to offer these going forward anything like as much as previously.

We are booked (deposit paid) for our annually gathering at a holiday park site  with several hundred others,,LVs and holiday caravans/lodges

We received a letter from the company a couple of weeks ago adviseing that they are trying to "welcome" us ,but at that time  they may have to restrict the numbers this year or splitting the festival into two or more separate weekends,,so we will be advised ASAP what they are going to try ,but not to send remainder of payment until advised?

Ps the price we normally pay at the time of year is a fraction of what their peak school holiday prices including Oct half term are,   and that is also with with meals on the package we are on
