The warden allocating you a pitch would be a possible way to go, though I can forsee that that would not find favour with many!

As you probably know this is the system operated by the CCC where the "site manager" asks you what type/area you would like to go to and then escorts you to the pitch. Even then you normally have a choice of the various pitches in that area. The end result is CCC sites are much more relaxing as you never have vans speeding around and around the site to get the "best pitch", frequently the one you passed on the first lap.

Yes, we are members of both Clubs, and these days use far more CCC sites than CAMC sites as we get the over 60s discount.   We are happy with either way of doing things.

For us a site is never a destination, just somewhere to  come back to In the evening, so we are not too fussy.

We generally only go away out of school holidays, so getting a choice of
pitches on arrival is not usually a problem.

Maybe one day we will rejoin but would only consider using sites out of the peak periods when it is less expensive and in particular quieter.

As we always use our own facilities, we almost always  use the 5 van sites during the drier parts of the year. Membership of the CAMC would only increase our choice of the 5 van sites and give us a few non facility sites in mid and high season.

Hopefully next year we will be able to tour abroad, this year is still possible but only time will tell.

Regarding speeding on site, the most blatant example we saw was a Friday night on the Much Wenlock site around 5 years ago, dusk was falling and this idiot was probably doing 25 -30 mph. If I had been in charge he would have been directed straight out the gate without stopping.

Are you saying that even 15mph is never exceeded.

Maybe he was having a bad day!?

Cannot say we have ever encountered a grumpy warden on either club's sites, and have always been given a choice of several pitches of the type we had booked.

Cannot see either that the pitches offered were suggested for the warden's benefit as not all were in the same area of the site.  No idea how they decide  what to suggest, though presumably if you request "near the facilities" , or "south facing", they will suggest ones that meet that description.

As for speeding.....members of both clubs are guilty of that!

I didn't say he was grumpy all the time K if you read my post, but only turned that way when I asked to move pitches - rather grumpily the 'site manager' let us. Obviously our request to use a nearby free pitch upset him somewhat and spoiled his plan for that pitch.

I suppose, speculating, that he didn't like his 'management' of the site being questioned by a 'paying guest'?

Yes speeding does happen (edit), ie outfits overtaking, or lapping each other looking for pitches, I have never seen that.

It is not very "relaxed" if you have used ccc at Sandrinham for either the members or site staff  at peak times , when the 1300 hours starting gun is fired and the LVs are queued up out of the gate onto the estate roadssurprised

What you quoted about odd days available when booking pitches ,was one of the problems That members were getting "confused" with the hard standing trial on some club sites

"Oh how i hope your statement continues to be factual, but almost every day now we read of a second flare up in countries far more adept at handling this crisis than we have been, South Korea today"

is 19 cases and 2 deaths a second 'flare up'?

i wont photo the graphs (again, see worldometer) but they look as flat as a pancake to me.

im afraid the BBC would rather report a 'spike' of this nature than report the progress (say) the UK is making.....not a squeak yesterday about the very low figures...

one is obviously not as 'newsworthy' as the other....undecided

The infection rate in SE England is actually lower than the Midlands, North West and North East.

Been there, seen that, and as we only use club sites on a very infrequent basis, either we've been unlucky with the clientele when we've been there, or more likely it's a more regular occurrence than you want to admit to. There was a lengthy post on this very subject not that many years ago on here, and I fear that the situation hasn't changed much since certainly then.

Will sites remain closed in areas which have higher rates, I wonder if bookings will be cancelled etc?

That’s something that crossed my mind too Brue could mean bookings being cancelled at short notice.

Keith & Michele have over 6,000 subscribers and several thousand more who watch but don't subscribe but not sure how many of these are members of the CAMC.  I find that the caravanners and motor homers on You Tube more entertaining than TV.    They are fairly new to caravanning and give a lot of help and advice to newcomers to the hobby.  I assume that the CAMC interview was just their own initiative.

One thing that I did mention a few days ago on this thread was about how he clarified that the beginning of July for the aimed date of opening only applied to England which is true however the deputy first minister here today has indicated that scotgov are looking at the possibility of allowing sites and self catering cottages etc to open sooner than planned so we may all be able to open at the same time. Back on point I do agree that this video should have been posted on the club site as not everyone on here will use Facebook.

Has the club itself mentioned this video? Or are the only links from people who have seen it on YouTube etc? Is it “official”, even though it stars Nick Lomas?

"Official" or not the DG of this leisure company sorry Club took the time (paid for by members) to give the interview without the caveat that it must be shared on this site or an email shot to all members with the appropriate link. The club seem quite adept at managing media when holding out the begging bowl.

Just remember this is the club that used members monies to sponsor some bloke to go to the South Pole. Never made it of course. Despite that what relevance did it have to Caravaning?

Had a quick look at the Keith and Michele website - One thing I noticed was on a couple of sites, they appear to use a 'pitch as you like' policy.

Think Bladon Chains was one, where the pitch marker was in line with the awning (caravan facing inwards), and another where the caravan was completely on the grass at the side of the hardstanding.

Suppose they could have received permission from the warden.

Keith and Michelle make no bones about being fairly new to caravanning. They have had many experiences - including having their van stolen and the issues around insurance claims and van replacement.

They post some useful, some entertaining content on you tube and never claim to be experts. Also to my knowledge they are not sponsored by any manufacturer or caravan dealer unlike other vloggers.

I have no idea how they came to do the interview, but they did and it gave some useful information. It’s not up to them to dictate how the CAMC use the publicity it may generate.

How they pitch when on site is surely a matter for them and the site and has little relevance to the post?
