I disagree. If it had been 'clarified', then Lord Sumption would not have had cause to highlight the illegality of the Police action ... Unless you thought that that 'Alas Smith & Jones' Comic Relief sketch about the Police was a Training Video

We are surrounded by lovely countryside, a short drive from home. But driving to it as far as we are concerned isn’t allowed. So we don’t. We just use our local park and a huge open sports field a mere 100 metres from our home. I shall have found every nook and cranny of our local park by week three....... That walk/cycle each day has become so important. We time it so that we miss the busier (a dozen other humans) period. Anyone we might see is well over 100 metres away.

Same here - Some years ago I bought a large scale OS map of our area - hadn't looked at it for some time, but I've just got it out again and rediscovered a large network of footpaths and bridleways which we can access within a 10 minutes walk of home.

Yep. I was on our local BHS bridleways Committee a good few years ago. We are lucky to have lots of local paths and bridleways, including Trans Pennine Trail and lots of spurs.

There are quite a few rather nice things happening now that the human race is confined. Far less litter around. The background noise levels have disappeared, no one has trashed/stolen the lovely daffodils this year. Local boy racers aren’t roaring around, more dogs are getting looked after properly, the birds are flocking into gardens as more folks are feeding them. Neglected gardens are being tended, houses getting some TLC, and lots more folks are saying a shy hello and smiling, rather than head down and shuffling past totally absorbed in their phones.

And as it says in the second line about "staying in" you can go out to help vunerable people and as i have said that is quite needed in this country , as we have been told vunerable people , including the elderly to stay indoors, hence my many posts that some others tend to try to ignore, which is why we notice "visits" from their and our children

I received the club magazine today [April edition], surprised that there is zero to report regarding Covid-19 and more surprised there is zero advice on staying home and not taking any LV to areas of the countryside that plainly do not want to see any caravan or motorhome anywhere in their area.
Is the April edition of the magazine written so long ago there was no knowledge or suspicion that the Covid-19 virus may cause travel restrictions?
I think for the clubs good reputation it needs to be visible in giving the advice for all members to stay at home and follow the government rules on travel and social distancing.
I would hope that the actions of a few LV owners to interpret the lockdown rules to suit their own desires [example:- flocking to Glencoe and Glenshee car parks!!] do not provoke a lasting bitter taste with those communities.

The mag would certainly have gone to print weeks ago. It’s no surprise to me that it’s not up to date.
The club has emailed members and put info on this website but there’s no way they could have got info into the recent mag ahead of printing but, as One says, the Govt website is the place to find general info affecting us all.

I think you missed my point. I am okay for advice, I think the majority of us are getting all the advice we need from a variety of sources. What the club need to be doing is making it self visible as stating best practice and telling members to be responsible. It's the 'optics' of this situation, the Caravan Club should be seen as a body that sends out good sensible advice to it's membership.
A glance at April's magazine would let you think the CC is living in a sort of bubble!

I can see your point about the club being more active in putting forward the message, AR, but to be honest they've not covered themselves in glory with the way they mishandled the closure of their sites. I don't trust them as an organisation to give me any message about C19. I'll look to proper sources for that.
With regard to magazines being somewhat out of step then the club are not alone in that. I have a walking magazine and a birdwatching magazine that arrive monthly. Both exhorting me to get out into the open and walk for Britain and with migration under way I should trying my best to reach certain goals etc. etc. It's not important. I just file it for future dates that I'll, fingers crossed, be able to do. Just take whatever you can from it and file the rest under recycling.

Wherenext, sorry, I think I may have written my previous points with a lack of clarity.
The statement I expected from the club is not so much a statement on Covid-19, but more a statement at to what should be appropriate when we, the membership, were considering getting into our LV's and decamping into the countryside.
It is all a bit late now, the lockdown is in place and will be for many months I expect, but when this emergency is over and we get back to a more normal world, I fear the places like Glenshee and Glencoe will be slow to forgive the actions of the people who filled their car parks. I wonder if perhaps a carefully worded statement from the club at the time could have helped?

You are overthinking it a bit AR, once things are decided in terms of how much folks will be allowed to do, guidance and encouragement are likely to be given, and I am sure most tourist destinations will welcome the touring fraternity with open arms. They will need the income desperately I would imagine. Sadly I think we are months away from this yet☹️
I suspect the Club are still trying to get folks home, along with all the other tourists in other holiday accommodation out in the big wide World. Apparently something like 200,000 have been returned from Spain alone, lots more from other places still to go.

I can't believe that some people are criticising the Police force for over reacting. 381 deaths in 24 hours and all we are being asked to do is to stay indoors and away from others. We are allowed out to exercise, unlike some other countries. The advice is simple, don't drive to exercise. People had to put up with so much more than this during the war and for many years. The police are having to put up with people spitting at them and yobs still being yobs, they have no protective clothing. Hard to believe that some people can't just do the simple things they are being asked to do to save lives without complaining. Well done the Police.

The police are in some ways in an impossible position and it's going to get harder for forces like Wiltshire and Avon & Somerset who have set up websites for folk to complain about anyone they think is breaking the rules. I can see the point of diverting calls from 999 and 111 but I suspect they're going to get a lot of flak for not responding.
When I was stopped yesterday driving across town the young officer was very good humoured and she recognised straight away why I was on my journey. But she and the others are only human and I can imagine some very fraught times ahead. They have my utmost respect and sympathy.

And this is because some the general population is incapable of understanding the instructions given to them.
I wish I could drive the couple of miles to my local hills and walk for miles but I'm instructed not to do that. Why, with the lack of traffic on the roads, do you need to drive to anywhere to get excercise? The traffic on the roads is vastly reduced so walking along any stretch is not the hardship it used to be. Take the excercise where you can.
