Some things that I like on C&MH Club Sites

...and ease of cancellation...
picking up on SB's earlier comment, i got a 'public flogging' on CT (from some of the posters in this thread) for admitting to a 'within the rules transgression'...
a couple of years ago our diary, like most years, was all over the place, and we wanted to meet sometime with our son and partner in Bristol for a few days, so as we hadn't agreed a date I booked on the then 'booking day' three seperate (not consecutive) four day breaks at Baltic Wharf.
obviously, if I had left it till we had finally agreed on a date, all pitches would have been booked at this Honeypot site.
as time went on I released the first date, we agreed in the second one and I immediately released the final one, all perfectly within the rules.
now, I don't necessarily agree that it should be so easy to do, but the powers that be must think it's ok, the system allows it....and I got the break I wanted stress free as I 'booked early'.
personally, I'd like to see the cancellation free period pushed out to at least a week (not 72 hrs) but as it is, the booking system is easy to use and one of the clubs best features....
along with access to CL sites and well priced ferry crossings.

Obviously I have sympathise with your MIL and your condition (we are in the same situation) but dealing with the site staff is, as I said before, not the best way to go about it but direct to the club.
Whatever the reason you did cancel without the required notice and the site staff have no authority to override that. Rightly so in my opinion otherwise people will perhaps play the system. A system which in my opinion is one of the best for no deposits, or lost money and short time cancellation period. A system that probably works better for you in your predicament that other non club sites.
You mentioned having despoits as a way round getting a letter? You mean as you've paid a deposit you can cancel at will without some form of record keeping? The club found when they took away despoits this behaviour went down.
I agree with M, you lost no money and if something happens to my MIL a letter will be the least thing on my mind.

Similarly M we had to cancel on several occasions to deal with my mum. Yes you get the automated email, but as you say it is the least of ones worries. We never heard any more, however I am sure if they had contacted us it would have been dealt with sympathetically.

There must be some sort of override, as we have been cancelled by the site staff on a couple of occasions within 72 hours, due to site conditions, and have received no warning email.

Yes I agree and that makes sense as I suppose it (ground conditions and issues on site) can be verified by the wardens on site actually there and their judgement call if they are bad enough to support an override?
But a reason given by a member cannot be verified. I am not saying that sb is not sincere but an 'ill relative' could be used insincerely?
Off topic but It was one of the standard excuses for not doing homework/detention. It was amazing how many times severely ill grandparents, sisters, uncles ... were in good health when we rang home. Are we expecting wardens to do the same?

Internet here is pretty poor, so I am not posting much at the moment.
I agree entirely with EasyT's OP. We had a lovely few days at Hunter's Moon CAMC site last week. Exactly what you would expect from a CAMC site. Well looked after and laid out site, friendly site staff who always spoke and were always out and about on site, other caravanners spoke and appeared friendly. This week we've moved to a non-club site and we are paying slightly more per night but the site is nowhere near as good - in spite of me checkingcitcout thoroughly first.
We don't visit Lidl that often, but we do go there for bread and other 'bakery' items. Much better than our local private bakery!

I don't normally tour between about 27th July and 27th August but when we use non-club sites we rarely see any cost saving and, for us, many sites are OK but often only meet 2 out of 7 points on our list of likes.

judging by many comments on CT, I would have thought one of the big advantages of the commercials over club sites is the ability to book hard standings.
for those that 'simply must' park on chippings, a blessing, surely?
despite a couple of heavy showers, most of the SW is a hardstanding after weeks of sunshine.
the CL we were on last week was typical, dry grass and firm as you could wish for, much more pleasant than rocks....

You might well have thought that BB and indeed for some it might be. As I said in the OP 'Not a problem as on sites with hard standings I have always obtained one (a hard standing).'

I think you need a toilet and/or shower, don't you, so wouldn't be of any use?
in fact, our other 'regular', delightful CL is also non facs which keeps it 'accessible' for those, li,e us, who slum it
our new forest THS sites are all non facs too....sorry.
