Not required.

We never bother. I believe by law you need them but no one has ever been prosecuted for not having them. They go out of date after two years too.

As far as I am aware in France the law was suspended due to the fact none of the French bothered. In fact when it was brought in, our family members, who live in France, were unable to purchase kits locally. I believe the fine was 11€, so hardly a deterrent and sellers didn't want to get stuck with them. I have not heard that it has been reinstated. Although it won't stop the Ferry companies trying to sell them to you.🤔

The law was passed I believe and it could be enforced if the French Government wanted to do it, but it seems to have been forgotten. For what they cost I would take them anyway as the French seem to be trying to make as much money as they can from us before we leave the EC if in fact we ever do.

They have not been required in France since 2012, they were brought into force by Nicolas Sarkozy just before the election which he lost and when Francois Hollande came to power he rescinded the law when they found the company was owned by Sarkozy's Brother in law
