I imagine this is the official Government Website dealing with all things Post Brexit for travellers to the EU?

On the point of IDP's, having had a read of the above website it almost suggests that obtaining and IDP is a bit belt and braces as no one really knows how different EU countries will react and it is possible that there will be different requirements for different countries. Why there should be need for additional paperwork is beyond me as every police force in Europe is familiar with the photocard licence we currently have and understands the information held on it as it is the same as used by their fellow countrymen! I am not sure what and IDP gives that the current licence does not?

The list provided by the Post Office has now been updated, I presume after withdrawal of the earlier Government advice (which has now changed).  IDPs are now available at our local post office - previously our nearest was in Leeds which is thirteen miles away - fortunately just a few metres from a bus stop as parking in Leeds is expensive and difficult.

well i would ask the question, on day one how many of the officials who you would expect to check for green card, idp etc would know what they were looking at if you showqed it to them, after all we have been touring the EU for many years without all these documents, and all the officials today have probably never seen them or know what to ask for. EG. When i enquired with BF Poole re taking my dog out, they knew nothing and referred me to head office. My motto is get what the Gov say you will require as a minimum on day one and just go, i am sure nobody is going to get thrown in jail provided you have made reasonable provision.

In todays newspapers....the source of all things honest, trustworthy and impartial fact .....Gov ministers have indicated that (after No 10 meeting last night) March 29 will now be delayed until May 24...siting not enough parliamentary time for legislation to be passed through the HoL.

I think the best advice is to check the Gov web site..

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/prepare-to-drive-in-the-eu-after-brexit#history

and check the latest update date..

Thanks for bringing the other site to my attention. Went to day to get IDPs. If this has already been mentioned I apologise but we found that they only run as long as your license and hubby's driving license runs out in July. Also you have to have different ones for France and Spain complete with photographs so whereas we thought hubby needed one photo by the time we are finished he will have needed three.

I can’t understand this hype about apparent different versions of an international driving permit when only one version is issued abroad. My understanding is that all countries recognise the same IDP regardless of which convention they were signatories to.

not what we are being told in the UK, Spain we are told is not a signatury to the 1968 IDP along with some other countries, where as the latest edition the 1968 IDP is recognised by most. I have both versions on my desk right now. 1968 and 1949 cost me £11 pence and a couple of mug shots.laughing

Margaret and I were today discussing the idea of going to Europe this year as we have skipped a couple of years because of medical issues. Our first choice would be May and June but given all the uncertainty we have decided we will wait until the summer before making a decision about going in September if indeed we decide to go at all this year. I just wonder how many people are in a similar situation? It can't be good for the Clubs Overseas Touring Department!

We cancelled our trip abroad last September due to new grandson and unexpected house move, and this year will be staying in UK as we can only take max 4 week breaks at the moment.

Taking note of all these requirements in case we should venture abroad in 2020.

With pre-existing medical conditions, travelling abroad may become too expensive for us.

Well all I can say is we still plan to go the third week of April, but  this time last year the tunnel, Dart crossing, Red Pennant and Blackhorse farm had all been arranged, so far this year ........ nothing as yet😤

If it drags on too long with consequences we will do as you may and go towards the end of the summer.

We normally go in April but due to other commitments we have to go in in July/August.  Nothing to do with Brexit.

Same as you David. We have been May/June for years but having renewed our passports and got our IDPs just in case we are now going to wait and see what happens. What do we fear? I don't know really, apart from general chaos at the ports where no one knows what they are doing, but knowing that we can book a ferry Calais/Dover and RP insurance within a couple of days of leaving I am in no hurry to commit.

There is no "fear" attached to it at all but just the noise around the issue of us leaving the EU. We have had so many years of trouble free touring in Europe and only now are we having to think about whether we have the right paperwork, whether we have enough time left on our passport, how long can we stay, how much my pound will buy, etc. Personally I will wait for it all to calm down. We have toured in Europe since 1987 so it's no hardship for us to tour in the UK until the  mess is sorted out, if it ever is!
