re EHIC i read that the government are going to introduce a new Global medical card and that your current EHIC would be vallid until its current expiry date and then new Global card would be applicable ?, not too worried as always take out travel breakdown and medical insurance normally RP, but rest is good news but pets still remain a bit of a problem but our pouch jabbed up for rabies so only the new medical report required 10 days before travel , just need our covid jabs and we are we will be ok to go

HOOORAY For BREXIT !!
These inconvenient trips to vets in France and Spain ( and most other EU country's ) before returning home is now a thing of the past !
The Pets Passport is no more and there is no longer a need for tapeworm treatment before returning home.
There will be an alternative Certificate to replace the PP but can be obtained from your own vet within 10 days of leaving the UK and lasts for 4 months.
Thought our trips with our dog was a thing of the past as trying to get her to take the tapeworm tablet was a nightmare. Now she can come !

I prefer to do my own research rather than rely on a third party.

By the time you've read 1246 pages or whatever it is, you'll not have time to go anywhere.

An interesting read, but doesn't really apply to me, even when I'm travelling over there

It also won't have any effect if you have dual UK/EU nationality.

For dog owners getting pouch through the rabies cycle could be problematic and expensive, but once you have done it vaccine only needs to be renewed every 2 years, yes you will have to present your pouch to a UK vet 10 days before leaving the UK to ensure your pet is fit and well and no doubt there will be a charge for this, but you currently have to do this when returning to the UK, and yes you have to pay and the fees vary from vet to vet.
We have for years had pouch vacinated against leishmania, not compulsory but leishmania is prevelant particularly in Spain and a killer, so no expense spared for us, same with personal travel/breakdown insurance, if could not afford it we would not go simple, best to know you are covered as not.

about 1% of the population - a very exclusive club
Only people like James Bond (he is a club member btw) and that 1% get to have two passports.

You will have plenty of time to read 1246 pages because as of 1st Jan and until such time that we go on the EU safe list for covid then travel into the EU is forbidden, so as it stands, even if you have had the vaccine you aint going anywhere fast

The names Bond, James Bond.
having lived in Germany for 50 years, in 2018 decided to also obtain German nationality, did not really want to but I could see the outcome of Brexit so the decision was made.
because I applied before 31.12.2020 I could have double citizenship, had I done it in 2021 I would have had to give my british nationality up.
Use my UK Passport to come to england and my EU one to get back,no fuss at the borders.
Like I said, the names Bond, James Bond one of the famous 1% according to cornersteady.
I`m British and stay British where ever I am.

Same sentiments here but it's worth having. I'll probably use it when travelling alone rather than with the family though.
One of the strange rules is that one doesn't get British consular support in the country where you have the other nationality. For Germany I'm sure that's not a problem but for Italy...

If it's any help there is a much shorter summary version here of 35 pages.

Reported in the news this morning that Dutch border guards are confiscating the lunch boxes of British truckers because they have ham, cheese, egg sandwiches etc in them, could make for some interesting queues at ports if they stop every caravan/Mh and check the fridges, could have some interesting food mountains also if people havent followed the rules

Under the new rules the Dutch have every right to do as they are doing; that said it does seem rather mean. Of course they export some Euro 3 billion of fruit and veg, meat, and flowers and plants to the UK each year and we, the great British public, could equally start a boycott .

It isn’t a boycott it’s good practice, we have visitors checked for food & plant items due to the diseases that can be imported. Don’t forget we gave the World mad cow disease🙁

Or acting like all "security personel" how many have had their food confiscated? ,as in this country it is down to interpretation by some
I do hope that it is not a bit of "fake news?" as what about the many EU drivers that have bought food in this country to have on journey home?
