Am I being unreasonable?

However as you are not prepared to lodge a deposit you have taken the obvious correct step and gone elsewhere even though it seems you lost your preferred choice
You obviously haven't read all of the OPs comments, AD. He has no objection to paying a deposit, he just consider that the size of the deposit requested was excessive....please keep up.

Welcome back, David. Hope Cuba lived up to expectations.
Please read my OP and subsequent posts again. We are regular supporters of CLs and, as I think, I've made clear, quite relaxed about paying a reasonable deposit, although, more often than not, these are not required. In fact, I always ask when booking if the owners would like a deposit. This site was the first I contacted in the area - we felt, and still do, that asking 4 nights deposit for a 7 night stay was unreasonable and certainly not in line with other CLs. So we have booked elsewhere in the area and, as I think I've said at least 3 times now, good luck to the owners if they can make a go of their CL with those terms.
Edit - of course, it may be that they simply wanted to discourage us as dog owners, but weren't up front in saying so!

Is that relevant? I hadn’t even noticed the timing but it’s good to see your holiday hasn’t changed you.

I'm not sure flying is currently flavour of the month. I think there has been some droning on about delays.

The point, K, was to raise awareness of our experience and just investigate whether it was a trend for CLs. And I think the responses have actually been very illuminating with a marked contrast between those, like us, who regularly use CLs and those who don't or can't. I don't think there's any reason to question the validity of any thread is there? Nearly 100 responses show more interest than many other threads. But thank you for your continued interest and, yes, we're more than happy with our alternative destination.

Paying deposits by customers when they book nights on a CL is a sign of commitment by that customer that they will actually turn up. CL owners don't ask for deposits for no reason-----they have probably suffered from multiple "NO Shows" in the past. It costs a customer not a penny more to make that commitment, the nightly charge remains exactly the same. So why not pay some of that nightly charge in advance as a sign of good faith that you will actually turn up, even if it's forecast to rain.

K - well done, that's your 4th post over a period of 13 days to a thread which you apparently think has no point. So, with respect, why are you still posting, particularly on a subject of which you can have no recent experience ( as a non member)?
Edit - not sure what relevance your comment about rain has? Do you cancel when it's wet, because we don't!

If that was unpleasant, what was this from you to me?

Hello friends, I'm not quiet today because goodwill has taken me over, it's just that I have driven from Cornwall to London in the traffic and been asleep since I arrived. Cheers.
