Can only suggest you contact Safefill by email or phone & get your information direct then decide.

We did a couple of years ago & received very frank & concise information which convinced us to invest in a 10kg cylinder. We are still very happy with our purchase.

You are obviously a young man Steve wink

My take is if it doesn't pay for itself for me in 5 years I can't be faffed. If it doesn't pay for itself in 10 years then definitely not worth the effort of going off site or out from home for a refill as far as gas is concerned.

My take is that if it was being filled by a third party I would need a cert. As they are relying on the cylinder being safe, DIY is different laughing

Not that his response is unbiased! Mine paid for itself after 15 nights and I do a hell of lot more than that in a year. It’s a no brainer

What utter tosh ! Yes, that’s right, Safefill will risk imprisonment and the destruction of their business by giving you an unbiased and possibly dangerous take on it so they can sell 1 cylinder when they have thousands of happy customers. All that you pulled off the web DD I saw two days ago. The very fact that Safefill have got 10 yrs for testing which is advisory only blows your arguments out of the water. If you don’t mind, I’ll stick with Safefill- they know what they are talking about!

Steve. ynotkickaroonow@hotmail.com Talk to someone who has used these things and who has first hand experience. Going off grid will save you about £10 a night average. 14 day holiday- your Safefill is paid for!!  You can stick with Calor, I’m sure they’d love it but you are the loser in that scenario.

I beg your pardon fella! My response is totally unbiased. I simply said that if it does not pay for itself in my time frame I ain't interested. How the hell is that biased. Don't start striking out at me Merve! If Steve is likely to off grid regularly then it may well be a godsend.

SO as gar as impugning me either take a deep breath for pause and clarity or wind your neck in fella.

Does that sound as if you annoyed me? laughing If it was not intended you are forgiven. wink

    Thanks Merve.

My interest at the moment isn't particularly about saving money, as we currently don't use enough gas. Although it might well be in the future, if we change to a MH and use Aires for overnighting. Presently I am just interested in having a lightweight cylinder with the demise of the Calor lite. They say there will be a new version, but who knows.

I can assure you that there will be a new version. I’ll also stick my neck out Steve and say that it will be a composite and probably manufactured by Hexagon Ragasco. The only difference of course is you’ll have to rent it!

I suspect it will also not have a user refill valve fitted wink

Easy, you have known me now for many a year and I have never found you to be aggressive, rude, or obnoxious. The comment was not directed at you and if you thought it was, then I apologise. It was aimed at DD who has already admitted that he isn’t happy with Safefill. Not that I mind that, he’s entitled to his opinion like everyone else but I have known Safefill long enough now to know that they are as straight as a die and will only give you the facts. To suggest that you will get biased advice is not only incorrect but nasty. They don’t care if you don’t want Safefill and choose another system, what they have done is given us choice and freedom from high rental charges. That’s it! Sorry again mate if you thought I was putting you in the cross hairs.

I think I might withdraw from this thread. 2 people who I respect have taken offence by misunderstanding my replies. That is not a good situation. I hope you all see through the fog of misinformation and arrive at a sensible conclusion. The laws surrounding LPG are many and complex and with UKLPG dragging their feet to bring out the rewritten Sht26 and not being able to find a link to the Red Guide, again, revised has only led to old and out of date info being placed on here. I will be no part of that. I hope that all you Safefill users find Morrisons a breeze to use which is what this thread is supposed to have been about. I will report any further developments in the Safefill sphere but suffice it to say, more and more retailers are getting involved. You can be damn sure that they have all checked and checked again their legal obligations. - and accepted Safefill as legitimate. Thanks to all.

At the moment I can fill my safefill bottle locally and really thats what interests me.

I know I can also fill it in the Netherlands so thats great.  I'm sorry that you feel you have been driven away from your own thread by other people (being polite). Again thanks for the advice over the years Merve.  This will be my last comment on this thread

Merve, I have been following your threads on off-grid for a long time, especially the safefill info. Thank you for all of it. I haven't acted on any of it yet, but have just acquired a new smaller van with a solar panel, and I'm getting tight on payload. Not having to carry two large gas containers would be a real boost. I appreciate all the effort you put into this.

Yep, there is no doubt. I wanted to double check before going to my local store.

After an exchange of emails with Rita of customer services, where I had to fully explain my enquiry (probably my fault not explaining it correctly in the first place) I had an email back giving the go ahead to fill at any store that serves LPG

(Is this better than a tweet, who knows!?)

Anyway, big thanks to you Merve for steering me towards refillable gas bottles. After looking at all the available makes and options I chose a Safefill as it fitted my needs.

Nothing to do with your so called "advertising of the brand"

Later this year I will break even and then mega cheap gas there after!

(PS: When are you going to do a full write up on your lithium battery install and associated kit??)

Hi harrib0. I knew the tweet was genuine as I had kept my ear firmly to the ground but at least you have confirmed it! That’s good news. Glad you got sorted with a Safefill. You’ll not look back, I can assure you! But then you probably know that already. 🤣 And thanks for your kind comments- all I really try to do is help my fellow ‘vanners. Safefill does tick most boxes. As regards the Lithium, I have made a third attempt with Gary Martin, editor of the club mag and after a very frank discussion I was assured that they have a free hand with what goes in the mag. I have sent him a write up and Rowena has had hers for what she wanted to do re offgrid caravanning. So, I hope it will be in mag soon. In the meantime:

Thanks Chris, these comments mean a lot to me. Brilliant news! 13.67 Lts  £7.91!! I raise a glass to you. That equates to about 6.5kgs- Calor price £26. It speaks for itself doesn’t it?

Pleased for you Chris. Amazing. 24hrs carravanning for more or less the price of a pint! I will be off to Wales soon. I will take my empty 10.3kg and my nearly full 5kg. Not alot of weight there. Will fill at Bradburys garage, Barmouth. Very handy!

As promised, I now post the email that I have received this morning from CLIVE Turner at  Morrisons. I hope this puts to bed any further doubts that some of you MAY have.

    Good afternoon Mr Gaskin

    Thanks for getting in touch.

We have now received the following statement from our Petrol Team regarding Safefill containers and attached documentation.

"After receiving feedback from our customers and stores, we are now offering the service from Safefill for our customers to fill refillable cylinders only with LPG.

Customers MUST present their Safefill cylinder(s) at the kiosk before attempting to fill.

Primary it is the responsibility of the customer for identifying damage to the filling valve or cylinder but Petrol Filling Station staff will refuse sale if any damage is evident.

Customers are provided with instructions for filling and use of Safefill gas cylinders on purchase of the equipment. Cylinders themselves are printed with the relevant information.

Only Safefill cylinders may be re filled. Under NO circumstances are conventional steel cylinders to be re filled."

I hope you find this useful and please let me know if there's anything else you need.

    Kind regards,

It is interesting to note that ONLY Safefill are to be filled, No doubt because Safefill have done the work needed to assure Morrisons of their inherent safety. Happy filling everyone

    My Reply.

    Hi Clive,

Many thanks for your communication. I have now copied & pasted to the Caravan and Motorhome Club forum. I can assure you there are many happy campers and caravanners today. Some lingering doubts remained as this is ground breaking in the history of LPG so it’s taken some time to sink in as it were! Morrisons have changed the landscape for so many so let me thank your company on behalf of the thousands of Safefill users up and down the land. We will definitely benef from this decision and I’m sure Morrisons will too.

    thank again

    etc etc.

What you are witnessing is caravan history in the making! 20 years from now or perhaps a lot sooner , refillables will be normal and standard and no one will turn a hair when filling a cylinder. Covert filling of dangerous steel cylinders will hopefully have come to an end. For me, Safefill have given so much to us through their fight with the more powerful. I thank them again for their foresight and bulletproof determination to bring us, the caravanning and Motorhomeing Public something really worth having. My job is done on this thread!
