Sites with pitches that overlook the Swimming Pool

We visited a site in northern Italy and luckily our pitch was located adjacent to the swimming pool. It made such a difference to our holiday for me and my wife to use a pool and be able to see our dog who was on our pitch with a lead.

We are new to camp sites and dog ownership and my dog Barks and scratches if he is left inside the motorhome. But outside and on a lead he seems happy. Can any other dog owners state if they have found a european site that had a pitch where they can see there pet while using the swimming facilities. Apart from the one in Lake como (Italy), i have neve found this before and it was so good for both me and my wife to swim together. Without keeping the pet inside the motorhome and letting him bark and rule our lives.

Your more likely to find sites with pitches on the beach than by a pool. I don't think the latter are very popular because of the proximity of activity which can be very noisy Note, pitches with a beach view come at a premium.

We have stayed on sites in the past, but these days sites tend to have 'fenced off' their pools, and pitches are usually behind a high hedge, or a wall.  Could you swim in a river?  We stay on lots of sites with river access and love swimming in the river - much more than in the pool.  There are very many sites with pitches along river banks, access for you and your dog to the river, and a pool for if he gets an offer of a walk from a nice neighbour!

Lakes and rivers are your best bet but pitches next to the water come at a premium and need to be pre-booked.

There are perhaps two pitches at Camping La Bouysse at  Sarlat which back on to the pool, and from memory there is (possibly was) only a low fence between the two.

As you have been to Como you might like to try Cannobio on Lake Maggiore. Camping Riviera is right on the lake and has fabulous lakeside pitches. Not cheap at around 40 Euros and you need to book a week minimum but this is possibly the most attractive town on the lake and just a few minutes walk from the site. Maggiore is more accessible than Como because you can reach it in one day from France or Germany via Basel and Locarno.

We have been touring France and Italy for 25 years both in season and out of season. The chances of turning up at a site and finding a poolside, lakeside or riverside pitch that is free are quite low. You can find a space but it may be a couple of days before an ideal pitch comes free.

Camping Don Camillo in  Cambrils Spain has a number of pitches that you could site the MH on and see the pool. If you check on line there is a site plan so pitches can be clearly seen that are near the pool. This site will allow you to pre-book a pitch by pitch number. Its a good site too easy 5 minute walk to the beach and you can walk for miles along the sea front if you so wish.

Another site springs to mind is in Anger, France called Lac du Maine again a few pitches by the pool and a lovely park next door that you can walk through all the way to Anger along the river, another of our favourite sites.
